I like villains to be a bit complex. Where you wonder "are they REALLY that bad? They just need a hug." HxH did a great job with their villains. I am impressed most by the "adultrio" and how layered the characters are. Like, Illumi is just basically Killua who didn't run away from home but one is considered a villain and one a protagonist. IDK. Chrollo is always seeking meaning while killing off whoever the fuck he wants, and Hisoka is sometimes a protagonist, looks ridiculous, and is one of the most entertaining characters.

In my opinion, the most important things about a villain is being Serious, Strong, and grips unique great abilities if possible I have never liked a character because it had a compelling story or a had something I can relate to. I know people have opinions but I can’t understand why a villain’s story and motivations are this important. Akaza from Demon slayer, I have literally no idea what his goals or motivations neither I know what his backstory is (since I didn’t read the manga). But I still like him so much just cause he had a strong presence and at the moment I saw him I knew things were about to get down. Same goes to Muzan. He’s evil for the sake of being evil and he appears to be not very smart and a coward, but he hypes me up every time he’s on screen. Kurapika from Hunter X Hunter. (He’s not a villain but I want to mention him) He just wants to have revenge on his enemies after his clan’s death. Neither do I have feelings for his clan, nor he got his revenge and accomplished his goal, yet he’s incredibly amazing Imo, If the the villain appears on screen and my adrenaline goes up, they are a great villain
The thing a lot of people get wrong is that their bad guys call themselves evil, which is completely wrong. It's VERY rare for people to perform evil acts because they want to perform evil acts. They're usually deluding themselves in some way into believing that they are in the right, that their goals are noble. So to them, those opposing them are evil.

I think Attack on Titan does the part of writing Villains in a unprecedented manner Unlike most shows that deals with morality, the show not just challenges your morality but kind of rips it apart A strong argument could be made for about 90% of the main cast to be Villains and not Villains depending upon your values. 10:53 Meruem is a good Villain and a very Bad One at the same time. He is an Ant but didn't act as the suposed to, being Top of the Food Chain, you know the purpose of his race. Meruem was a very bad King to his people and species.

In my opinion; Best antagonist is Yagami Light, which is also the protagonist of the show. You can relate how power can defect an ordinary (aside from being smart) human since the beginning of the story. So you basically hanging in a dilemma thread for the whole show.

If we go by Wikipedias definition of protagonist, "A protagonist is the main character of a story. The protagonist makes key decisions that affect the plot, primarily influencing the story and propelling it forward, and is often the character who faces the most significant obstacles." Light is the protagonist since he goes on a crusade to do something potentially helpful to society, while L try to stop him, and we have our antagonist there. You get that?

You are correct. The way I see it, its similar to Genthru from Hunter x Hunter. You got to have different villains, there are people who want revenge like Dr. Watts, zealots like Tyrian, good guy tuned villain due to circumstance like Hazel. Then there are people who just want power - Cinder, or money - Genthru. Just like in real life, not every person has a deep backstory or whatever, they just ARE like that. And we see that this is her downfall, as soon as she start behaving like she wants - she fails, because she is bad at being a standalone villain. As a "tool" she is awesome and very competent, and that's why Salem keeps her. Cinder is made to be hated, because if you sympathize with EVERY villain... it's boring. Like every DS demon has a sad backstory, I get it, but it's so fucking repetitive!
not sure what to feel about lumping Eren with the likes of Freezer and Sasuke... his motivations for destroying the world were pretty clear to me, the world was trying to destroy him and everyone he loved X) he didn't start his assault until Marley and the entire world declared war on paradise, his island wouldn't have stood a chance, given that a century of isolation behind the walls left them extremely behind in both weaponery and technology, they would have been wiped out by the modern bombardings from the alliance before even knowing what hit them, I know some people argue that a partial rumbling to act as a threat would have sufficed, but it has clearly been stated that the power of titans was becoming less and less relevent by the years, if we take a look at the chronological pacing of the show we'll notice that we're only a few years short of the creation of nuclear weapons, wich would basically render the rumbling completely obselete, then nothing would act as a deterrent to the enemy forces and the islanders would have been slaughtered without mercy, and he KNOWS this would happen, not only because they already tried to commit this genocide in the past (the first assault resulting in his mother's slauther, yes I know what he did, but Berthold still kicked the wall) and most importantly, BECAUSE HE KNOWS THE FUTUR, it is heavily implied that this was not Eren's first chance at trying to fix fate, and that this was probably his only succesful attempt at protecting the one he cherishes the most... with four years left to live due to the titan curse, he had to act then, or leave her to be a victim in the war that would soon follow his demise... Anyway, genocide is wrong, what he did was horrible, there's no doubt about that, but what makes Attack on Titans a masterpiece in my eyes is that no one in this show is right

Villains are part of the world building the ideology of the antagonist shapes the world and the antagonist Neutral threat: exists in the world as big bad from the shadows power levels vary but influence is high Active threat: exists in the world as an active force wether it's direct combat or direct influence by action Active neutral threat: acts on both the shadows and the here and now with both power and deadlines (MADARA/dio/pocchie) When it comes yo ideology however more grounded in reality the better the less flavourless drama your villain has the better make both opinions of the world ideology and methods to act grounded in both real life psychology and realistic characteristics of human beings It doesn't have to be "real" 100% but using actual psychological traits and building a bon it is a great took I am both a social worker and i write poetry so go figure
You will probably never see this but if you do please read it I would like to mention a villain who at face value seems like a horrible villain made by lazy writers but in reality, is the perfect villain for the story Ozai: this guy is basically as 1 dimensional as it gets he wants to conquer the world and burn it down, he isnt necessarily a complex villain but the thing is we don't always need the big bad to be complex. ATLA already has 2 fantastic complex villains Zuko and Azula they are all the complexity the show needs for its villains so ozai being simple makes him the perfect antagonist to fight the person who had the most internal character arc in the whole show aang. And it also makes perfect sense that the person with the most external influence of their arc, Zuko, was the one to fight the complex big bad. To summarize my points I'm gonna quote a RUclipsr "A great villain has to fit the narrative" while the things you pointed out can lead to good villains there is no point in nailing everything you mentioned in your video if a very complex villain doesn't fit the story. technically Meruem wasn't even a villain. not even when he was born. we see him as a villain because he's the one that opposes the heroes (and mankind) and has quite a ruthless personality but he's not a villain. he is just a survivor that wants the best for the chimera ants. he also wants to find somebody that can fight him as an equal so he can test his own power. that's hardly a villain. or, are we saying that the entire chimera ants, the entire species, are villains? we know that's not the case. some of them help our heroes and some act out of duty and loyalty. that's not a villain at all. compare that with Genthru, for example, who mercilessly murdered just because he can. or Chrollo, from the phantom troupe, who couldn't care less about law. or Red from the Red Ribbon army in dragon ball, who is willingly happy to murder hundreds, or thousands, of people, including his own men, just to be able to wish to be taller. Red is a poorly made villain but he's a villain. Meruem isn't. humans are food for the chimera ants. in the same way that cattle is food for us. are we villains because we kill animals (and plants)? no. neither is Meruem.
@@mahistv that assumes the crew are the good guys. that's a point of view. most of the stories are told from that point of view. but, it's not unhear of stories where the MC is a complete villain or stories where it's hard to know who is the villain and who is the hero. Death note would be a nice example where you can't state "the crew" are the good guys. one of the characters even points that the hero is whoever wins. if Kira wins, he is the hero that eliminated crime, if Kira loses, Nero is the hero that eliminated a serial murderer.

@@mahistv the only “Villains” I remember that last season we’re General Ironwood and cinder, first one being someone who I felt was forcefully turned to fit a narrative for some BS by the writers and to make the main characters look good and the second taking the reins from Salem after she ate shit from Ozpin and Hazel suicide bombing her out of the the plot despite the fact that no one likes cinder and I’m not saying that for the villain aspect, I’m saying nobody likes her for the fact of her being an annoying character I’m surprised she isn’t dead yet, and they just revealed her shit backstory now of all times, I’m pretty sure they could’ve revealed it during the time of her recruiting her henchmen and more people could probably stand her but when I saw that now I was like “I don’t want to care about her now please just remove her and delete her from existence” and Salem should have been the main baddie from the moment she landed to the rest of the story but get temporarily killed off for the whole backwater “IrOnWoOd iS BaD”, instead of this forced shit we could have Salem being the rallying point of James to snap the fuck out of it and just go to team RWBY and be like “okay fine I’m wrong and you’re right whatever, let’s team up and stop this immortal bitch together or something”

Ironwood was going bad since volume 4, the reason he thought that was right, because until vol 7, nobody was doing what he was suggesting and he saw what happened - we lost over and over again, now he leads the charge and guess what, he fucked up even worse, when Cinder dropped the glass chess piece, that was the point of no return. Cinder also didn't take the reigns, she had an assignment and she was doing it. Annoying, yes, kill her off, yes, but that's her exact purpose in the show, even Arthur said that. On top of that, main cast is not the good guys anymore, they are better than bad guys, who are trying to save the world somehow. Salem is the big bad and will be, the only reason I'm "afraid" of cinder is that she is doing what Salem says, because only then she is dangerous. By herself Cinder is shit. It's not fair to judge the show just by 1 season, is it great? hell no! is it bad, no! its a good show, with its flaws and quirks.

In my opinion; Best antagonist is Yagami Light, which is also the protagonist of the show. You can relate how power can defect an ordinary (aside from being smart) human since the beginning of the story. So you basically hanging in a dilemma thread for the whole show.
Even though light yagami isn't antagonist (Yes he is Protagonist untill the last episode)

L is actually the Protagonist but was introduced later and Light was the Antagonist but was shown first as a Protagonist

What...? It's how you see it, but thats not how it is. Light is not the antagonist, and L is not the protagonist. If we go by Wikipedias definition of protagonist, "A protagonist is the main character of a story. The protagonist makes key decisions that affect the plot, primarily influencing the story and propelling it forward, and is often the character who faces the most significant obstacles." Light is the protagonist since he goes on a crusade to do something potentially helpful to society, while L try to stop him, and we have our antagonist there. You get that?
I think you should do a video on cinder since I still don’t get her character goals. Form what I and most saw she just wants power we don’t know why or what she going to do with it since if you saw her backstory it not for revenge.
You are correct. The way I see it, its similar to Genthru from Hunter x Hunter. You got to have different villains, there are people who want revenge like Dr. Watts, zealots like Tyrian, good guy tuned villain due to circumstance like Hazel. Then there are people who just want power - Cinder, or money - Genthru. Just like in real life, not every person has a deep backstory or whatever, they just ARE like that. And we see that this is her downfall, as soon as she start behaving like she wants - she fails, because she is bad at being a standalone villain. As a "tool" she is awesome and very competent, and that's why Salem keeps her. Cinder is made to be hated, because if you sympathize with EVERY villain... it's boring. Like every DS demon has a sad backstory, I get it, but it's so fucking repetitive!
not sure what to feel about lumping Eren with the likes of Freezer and Sasuke... his motivations for destroying the world were pretty clear to me, the world was trying to destroy him and everyone he loved X)
he didn't start his assault until Marley and the entire world declared war on paradise, his island wouldn't have stood a chance, given that a century of isolation behind the walls left them extremely behind in both weaponery and technology, they would have been wiped out by the modern bombardings from the alliance before even knowing what hit them, I know some people argue that a partial rumbling to act as a threat would have sufficed, but it has clearly been stated that the power of titans was becoming less and less relevent by the years, if we take a look at the chronological pacing of the show we'll notice that we're only a few years short of the creation of nuclear weapons, wich would basically render the rumbling completely obselete, then nothing would act as a deterrent to the enemy forces and the islanders would have been slaughtered without mercy, and he KNOWS this would happen, not only because they already tried to commit this genocide in the past (the first assault resulting in his mother's slauther, yes I know what he did, but Berthold still kicked the wall) and most importantly, BECAUSE HE KNOWS THE FUTUR, it is heavily implied that this was not Eren's first chance at trying to fix fate, and that this was probably his only succesful attempt at protecting the one he cherishes the most... with four years left to live due to the titan curse, he had to act then, or leave her to be a victim in the war that would soon follow his demise...
Anyway, genocide is wrong, what he did was horrible, there's no doubt about that, but what makes Attack on Titans a masterpiece in my eyes is that no one in this show is right

Villains are part of the world building the ideology of the antagonist shapes the world and the antagonist
Neutral threat: exists in the world as big bad from the shadows power levels vary but influence is high
Active threat: exists in the world as an active force wether it's direct combat or direct influence by action
Active neutral threat: acts on both the shadows and the here and now with both power and deadlines (MADARA/dio/pocchie)
When it comes yo ideology however more grounded in reality the better the less flavourless drama your villain has the better make both opinions of the world ideology and methods to act grounded in both real life psychology and realistic characteristics of human beings
It doesn't have to be "real" 100% but using actual psychological traits and building a bon it is a great took

I would like to mention a villain who at face value seems like a horrible villain made by lazy writers but in reality, is the perfect villain for the story
Ozai:
this guy is basically as 1 dimensional as it gets he wants to conquer the world and burn it down, he isnt necessarily a complex villain but the thing is we don't always need the big bad to be complex. ATLA already has 2 fantastic complex villains Zuko and Azula they are all the complexity the show needs for its villains so ozai being simple makes him the perfect antagonist to fight the person who had the most internal character arc in the whole show aang. And it also makes perfect sense that the person with the most external influence of their arc, Zuko, was the one to fight the complex big bad.
To summarize my points I'm gonna quote a RUclipsr "A great villain has to fit the narrative" while the things you pointed out can lead to good villains there is no point in nailing everything you mentioned in your video if a very complex villain doesn't fit the story.

we see him as a villain because he's the one that opposes the heroes (and mankind) and has quite a ruthless personality but he's not a villain. he is just a survivor that wants the best for the chimera ants. he also wants to find somebody that can fight him as an equal so he can test his own power.
that's hardly a villain. or, are we saying that the entire chimera ants, the entire species, are villains? we know that's not the case. some of them help our heroes and some act out of duty and loyalty. that's not a villain at all.
compare that with Genthru, for example, who mercilessly murdered just because he can. or Chrollo, from the phantom troupe, who couldn't care less about law.
or Red from the Red Ribbon army in dragon ball, who is willingly happy to murder hundreds, or thousands, of people, including his own men, just to be able to wish to be taller.
Red is a poorly made villain but he's a villain. Meruem isn't.

but, it's not unhear of stories where the MC is a complete villain or stories where it's hard to know who is the villain and who is the hero. Death note would be a nice example where you can't state "the crew" are the good guys.
one of the characters even points that the hero is whoever wins. if Kira wins, he is the hero that eliminated crime, if Kira loses, Nero is the hero that eliminated a serial murderer.

@@mahistv the only “Villains” I remember that last season we’re General Ironwood and cinder, first one being someone who I felt was forcefully turned to fit a narrative for some BS by the writers and to make the main characters look good and the second taking the reins from Salem after she ate shit from Ozpin and Hazel suicide bombing her out of the the plot despite the fact that no one likes cinder and I’m not saying that for the villain aspect, I’m saying nobody likes her for the fact of her being an annoying character I’m surprised she isn’t dead yet, and they just revealed her shit backstory now of all times, I’m pretty sure they could’ve revealed it during the time of her recruiting her henchmen and more people could probably stand her but when I saw that now I was like “I don’t want to care about her now please just remove her and delete her from existence” and Salem should have been the main baddie from the moment she landed to the rest of the story but get temporarily killed off for the whole backwater “IrOnWoOd iS BaD”, instead of this forced shit we could have Salem being the rallying point of James to snap the fuck out of it and just go to team RWBY and be like “okay fine I’m wrong and you’re right whatever, let’s team up and stop this immortal bitch together or something”

Ironwood was going bad since volume 4, the reason he thought that was right, because until vol 7, nobody was doing what he was suggesting and he saw what happened - we lost over and over again, now he leads the charge and guess what, he fucked up even worse, when Cinder dropped the glass chess piece, that was the point of no return. Cinder also didn't take the reigns, she had an assignment and she was doing it. Annoying, yes, kill her off, yes, but that's her exact purpose in the show, even Arthur said that. On top of that, main cast is not the good guys anymore, they are better than bad guys, who are trying to save the world somehow. Salem is the big bad and will be, the only reason I'm "afraid" of cinder is that she is doing what Salem says, because only then she is dangerous. By herself Cinder is shit. It's not fair to judge the show just by 1 season, is it great? hell no! is it bad, no! its a good show, with its flaws and quirks.
