To be honest I still found it really scary. Although, the more you get used to doing those sorts of things in a straight line it gets easier I guess.

    The beam mounts at Olympic Trials were so, so boring compared to these. I miss seeing the gymnasts do the complex mounts - so much more of an exciting start to the routine!

    • @michelenicole5566
      @michelenicole5566 8 лет назад +36

      Marta Karolyi is a fan of gymnasts just getting up on the beam, which makes sense because you don't want a fall on your mount and screw up the routine from the very beginning (ie: Alicia in 2008 Olympics), but she could at least get more original like Moceanu's mount from the mid 90's...I'd love to see a gymnast do that again!

    • @zyxcba3155
      @zyxcba3155 8 лет назад +88

      The current code doesn't award "different" or complex skills unfortunately. For example, the mixed grip seitz (toe on full twist transition to high bar caught in a mixed grip) is so difficult and complex, yet is rated the same as a simple half turn caught in the same grip. It doesn't make sense. I wish they raised the difficulty of certain complex/original skills and combination to encourage variation in routines.

    I think one of the most impressive things to me about gymnastics, other than all of the time and hard work, as well as beautiful moves, is the fact that they can do all of it, and still be standing afterwards. Spinning just once on the floor unearths me from reality for a bit. I cannot imagine doing flips like that, one after the other, and hitting the mark.

      So true! What angers me is that a Dutch gymnast at Worlds actually had a fantastically choreographed routine and was not rewarded--but ridiculed--for it! I thought why didn't the judges at least reward her artistry and rank her in the top five! It was a pity and a waste of good talent! I hope the gymnast gets a contract with Cirque Soleil, where they appreciate artistry and originality! What I see is most gymnast doing a double dismount to pick up points! Maybe we should raise the age to 18 so the girls can start thinking for themselves instead of having their coaches do it for them.

    3:32 Can we all take a moment to meditate on how amazing Catalina Ponors 5 element beam pass is?

  • @nathanielz6136
    @nathanielz6136 8 лет назад +3

    3:32 - The Balance Beam is tricky because skills are hoped to be connected, but 3:32 was outstanding - I love seeing the Onodis...especially Nastia Liukin's. 3:50 -Is a skill Simone Biles perfected for herself, and uses often on Beam... 3:56 - I haven't seen this done in FOREVER... Very nice performances, some bobbled but that's okay. Practice, practice, practice...and hope for the best.

    I used to be great at whipbacks - I was so tiny I could fling my body weight through the air like it was nothing. Then "The Accident" at 12 and it was all over. It's cool though I'm still great at the limbo, lol. Edit: most competitive gymnasts are small, but note the girls who execute great whips are VERY small. Your momentum leaving the ground has to be greater than your weight and whatever drag force/error you make going into the maneuver, and you can pretty much keep going down the floor indefinitely.
