The 99 team was better. They had better balance, better leadership, experience. Incredible defence & midfield... arguably the best partnership we’ve ever had in Yorke & Cole. Not to mention Ole & Teddy!

2008 for me, the way we walked through teams all season
That year in the ucl we are one of two teams not to lose in the cl
If you look at the results of the first half of the season there was actually a lot of 1-0s.
I didn't get to see the 99 side play so I can't really compare the two but the 2008 side was the best side I've ever seen.
2008 we played with an arrogant swagger! 99 was the greatest achievement in the Treble! 2008 definitely better football was played!

2008 team was fantastic but nothing beats that 1999 team. They just didn’t lose when it mattered
1999 more spirit and special but that 2008 team was unbeaten from that season until the 08/09 final defeat to Barcelona which holds the records in that competition of 25 games over two seasons no losses until that final.

Couldn't agree more with Ste's analysis of Beckham in 99! Without a doubt my favourite united player during my lifetime and it sucks that he didn't get the recognition he deserved for his football ability over his celebrity.
08 had everything.
Rio, Vidic, Brown, Evra: Pace, power, determination.
Hargreaves, Scholes, Carrick, Giggs, Park, Fletcher: You've got everything there, no need to even explain but special shout out to Hargreaves for his pace, power and technical proficeincy.
Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez.
Let alone my favourite player of all time Van Der Sar, and sprinkle in Nani, Anderson, o'shae, saha, its ridiculous.

And the 99 team were never beaten and won all three major trophies. 08 didnt win FA Cup. AND they went on to win the EPL at a canter for 2 more years!! 99 team were the best english team in my lifetime (40 years)
Have a look at the longevity of both teams, two years after 99 we still were ripping it up with Keane Scholes Beckham Giggs ole and RVN, with veron to come in, two years after 08 Ronaldo and tevez were gone, Rooney also had enough and wanted to leave. So many factors why 99 was better, they had more long term success, while 08 peaked very quickly, and if we going on unbeaten runs, United didn’t lose a game after December 08, so they went unbeaten from January to the very end in May 99
Berbatov wasn't in 08 team he arrived in the summer of 08 09 season. Plus I think the 09 team was amazing
08 was the better team even though it didn't win the treble Ronaldo Ronney and Tevez was the best trio and still is the best trio in my opinion

I wasn’t lucky enough to see the 99 team. 08 was the first season I can remember so from my memory 08 is our best ever team but I can’t argue the fact the 99 team won the lot so i’d say 99 over 08
99 more successful, 08 better squad.
I think the 99 midfield was way better. Giggs, Scholes, Keane and Beckham was crazy but the 08 had the best attack. It was crazy counter attacks even switching positions throughout the trio like Rooney and Ronaldo would make runs in strike and Tevez would even switch wide. I saw the 3 as a front fowards not wingers. Ronaldo and Rooney were mire like at the edge of the boxes in wide areas like a LST/LF and RST/RF. I remember LVG played like at in his first season where Mata and Young were playing more near the edge of the box then wide especially Mata. He was playing a RF whie Valencia was playing RB but like a RWB
What team is gonna stop Ronaldo? A guy who’s scored over 650 goals, won 5 ballon dors and 5 ucls.... the 08 team is best

'08 might be the best team on talent but '99 team is my favorite team because they played the most together for me... maybe its romanticizing for me because I was a young kid then
The way I look at it, go through the starting 11 for both eras:
Schmeichel beats van Der sar (1-0)
Gnev beats Wes brown (2-0)
Vida beats Johnsen (2-1)
Stam beats Ferdinand (3-1)
Evra beats Irwin (3-2)
Ronaldo beats Beckham (3-3)
Scholes 08 beats Scholes 99 (4-3)
Keane beats carrick (4-4)
Giggs 99 beats Giggs 08 (5-4)
And then Cole and Yorke vs Rooney and Tevez is pretty much inseperable for me.
Both unbelievable but personally I’d say 08 was a better side, but it’s too close to call
for me my favourite was the 93/94 team they played fantastic fast furious football , just watch the highlights of that season on you tube...did the double in 94 and just look at the players we had Schmeichel / Parker / Irwin / Bruce / Pallister in the defence , Keane Ince Cantona in midfield Kanchelskis and Giggs on the wings and Mark Hughes centre forward . ace .
2008 for me, loved watching that team. Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, Park, Nani, Saha and Giggs as our attack. So much depth there and variety. A really balanced midfield and the best defence weve had definitely

There really is only one answer, it's the 1999 team. The 2008 team was incredible, but I think a lot of fans were too young in 1999 to be able to properly compare the two teams. We had Peter Schmeichel the greatest goalkeeper to ever play for United, two full backs Gary Neville and Irwin who are arguably the two best full backs to play for United, Jaap Stam who would destroy any opponent and is probably the best centre back to play for United, Ronnie Johnsen his underrated CB partner, our greatest ever midfield four that really need no words of Keane, Scholes, Beckham, Giggs, and the amazing striker partnership of Yorke and Cole, with super sub Ole and Teddy adding experience to the side.
08 attack was like a Tsunami. I always believed if owen hargo didnt had the injury problems we could have gone on and won more champions leagues. What he gave tactically is still unmatched in united.
Only 17 so good to hear 08 was better for many. Still would kill to be in that pub with my dad in 99

1999 team was full of experience and exuberant but it represent a breakthrough... 2008 just sheer power and pace of youth and class rather maintaining status quo... both unbelievable

My favourite, and it isn't just because it was the best year/night if my life, but it has to be 99 treble team. without taking anything away from 08 team. There was two things which define 99 to be the best and that's the squad depth, the proof is in the most important game two of your main player can't even play in the game and the replacements are good enough to win it and second proof, the two strikers that won the UCL final were our 3rd and 4th choice striker. Secondly is the fact that we get past best team in the world to win the treble across all competitions, the whole premier League, fa cup, Liverpool, Chelsea, arsenal, Newcastle, UCL, Barcelona, Bayern Munich x2, Inter Milan, Juventus. These teams were in great form this year. 08 had an easier run in UCL. Then topped off, with the fantastic moments, like Giggsys goal fa cup, David Beckhams performance all year, Schmeichels bergkamp penalty save that kept us in it, the Jaap Stam clearance off the line against juve in the second leg of the semis, the extra time goals in the UCL final. Also the amount of luck and greatness in 99, there were some games which were quite lucky.
Not saying 08 didn't have great moments, great teams, or our team were any less great than 99. But I think if you way up everything. Nothing compares to 99.
And I'm not being biased because 99 was the best year/night of my life
94 team for me! Foreign rule hurt us, but that team with Cantona a young giggs, Keane n incr, kanchelskis Irwin Bruce, pally, Parker and the Great Dane, sharp, Hughes, it was an epic season, these guys blazed the way wining titles should be done, even the haters watch mod just to see Cantona!

1999 team for me, as I had grown up with the class 92 as my hero's and we had big Pete in goals, with the wall in Stam at CB, Keane controlling everything else. I feel that if that squad was here now, we could give Man City and Liverpool a run for there money and close the gap that's between us at the moment. Hopefully that's what OLE will bring back to the club, a sense of passion and pride that the 99 team had in bucket loads. GGMU for Life
1994 double team was my favourite...people cast them aside without europe win which I understand but the 3 player foreign rule killed them...This team imo had the best characters and played most cavalier football of all of them.
I loved that 08 team but the more I watched the 99 games the more I realised how crazy their achievements were. a bit of luck here and there but you need the luck to win things, so it just came to how robust their squad was. their champions league campaign is probably one of the hardest.
08 was my favourite team but Howson has changed my mind. Either way they are my best memories so far, we'll create more I'm sure of it.
For me 99 team was immense . Even the group games against brondby ,Barca and Bayern . You just knew something special was happening .

The 99 squad was special but the 08 team was pure entertainment. We leathered teams and Ronaldo added the extra sauce and I think to win three premier leagues on the bounce goes a long way. The partnership of Yorke and Cole though was the best I've ever seen and how to win the treble was magical. In a nutshell the 99 team edges it.
99 was more historic and had genuine world class legends of the club. 08 was the better team overall though. Absolutely dominant that year and Ronaldo was unplayable. We were more fun to watch.
‘08 had a better overall squad and potentially better individual talent in Ronnie and Wazza. But ‘99 had a sprinkle of magic that epitomised Fergie’s United and a mental strength that just got stronger and stronger as the season went on. Gonna go with ‘99 only just.

I agree with Howson's assessment but there's no way Beckham was the best player in the world in '99, a year when R9, Rivaldo, Zidane, Bergkamp, Figo, Davids, Roberto Carlos, etc. were still in their prime. There was never any talk at the time that he was the best in the world either. Great crosser of the ball and dead ball specialist, but he wasn't even the best player at UTD that year. Let's keep it real.

99 all day...08 was good but 99 had a better all rounded squad...having said all that 94 was a beast of a team.
Man for man '99 was better than '08. A combined 11 = schmeichel, Irwin, stam, rio, g nev, 99 giggs, Keane, 99 Scholes, Beckham, Ronaldo Rooney.
The 1999 and 2008 sides are nowhere near as good the legendary 2019 side

My partner saw both teams but spent 2008 with his 15 year old son so for him it was 2008 but if my son is not watching then it's 1999
I have better memories of 99 and that roller coaster ride. But 08 was the stronger side on a game by game basis. They had to beat Barcalona to get there. Never got past them again in that era. 08 was better at grinding results.
08 edges it for me but I couldn't argue with 99 , an unbelievable period for us.
1999 Def better for many reasons, it’s longevity was still part of the foundations of 08, within 2 years of 08 that team was already on the decline with Rooney also wanting to leave, 2 years after 99 we buying RVN and veron not to mention Fergie was younger, we had more individual brilliance in 99 with nearly 6 to 7 players hitting double figures. and football back then had that something special about it that made you fall in love with football. while most of our magical moments in 08 revolved around Ronaldo, not to mention summer of 08 was tainted by Ronaldo wanting to leave really dampening the party, while 99 was a party all summer long.
The reason why we had more knife edge games in 99 was because we played much stronger and tougher teams of those three trophy wins, arsenal 4 times, Chelsea 3 times, Liverpool 3 times, Bayern 3 times, Barcelona twice, juventus twice, inter twice, our main rival for the PL and CL in 08 was Avran grants Chelsea, 1999’s main threat was a prime wenger’s arsenal, prime Zidane juventus, and a prime Bayern side who were as strong now as they were back in then, so in a sense united were up against some of the french World Cup winning squad and we still Cleaned house
1999 team still had players that would go into win 7 and 8 more PL titles and another European cup, 5 years after 99 Ronaldo and Rooney were coming through with Fergie much younger, 5 years after 08 we had moyes and fellaini. So long term success 99 saw much greater fruits, 08 was the peak of the golden era of Fergie, 1999 Fergie only just getting started, so many factors why I would choose 99

00:37 the reason you have to justify it is because for 2 decades you bantered Liverpool for always going on about their history and living in the past. Now that the shoe is on the other foot you have to take a step back and reevaluate where Man Utd are as a club and where your rivals are.
Why not include the '68 team too? I'd argue as a one off match at all their peaks, the '68 1st team would beat the '99 and '08 1st teams.

Beckham with all respect was a glorious one trick pony and the very best of his type with consistent crosses and set pieces for as long as I can remember but he wasn't a better midfielder than McManaman, Ronaldo, Robben or Pirlo.
