Definitely , sounds like almost the same as I was growing up you had a bollocking and my old chap would still take bosses side 😂😂 you don't realise why at that age but carry on all the same . 😅
i bet you're so annoyed with new city fans. they are lacking in so much knowledge. it feels like they've inherited what you guys struggled with for so long
Nicky Butt was a last minute exclusion from an England squad going to a World Cup An oil/petrol company had already had commemoration coins made including Nicky. That must have been the worst moment of his career.
Listening to legends talking about their roots and careers is so refreshing, the current generation, will reminisce about how many Lamborghinis they have, how many tic toc views they've had and how much money they have , maybe it's not their fault, different times now and it is what it is, but it's so refreshing listening to players who used to give a shit. Two of my absolute heroes. What id give for a scholesy and butty in midfield now.....great times. Thanks gents
Bringing back great memories. Remember going to cliff and meeting Nobby, he told us the first team were at Littleton rd and gave us directions. Couldn’t believe how normal he was. Then went to Littleton road and were stood at the side of the pitch watching the first team training. First time i heard so many different accents in one place. At the end the first team all jumped in each other’s cars to drive back to the cliff. Still got all the autographs.
Loving these podcasts. Two good blokes with no airs or graces who seem like the sort of lads you'd have a beer with and reminisce about life as a kid in the late 80s and early 90s. Particularly like the part when they talk about having food on the way back from training. It reminded me of playing football with my mates for our school team then buying chips on the way back home, eating them and having a laugh together on the bus. How times have changed! I wouldn't let my 12 year old son on a bus on his own now.
18:11 Would Giggs ever come on and do a chat like this? I know he's had some bad press in recent years, but it would be interesting to hear his story of back in the day. He was my favourite player back then, and I was obsessed with his secrets and skills video tape. 😂
As a teenager you take so much to heart at times. Later in life you look back and smile at how much you benefited from someone thinking enough of you to demand better from you.
Great chat lads! I followed Utd since the 60’s. I’m 70 now. First match I saw in 1969, Utd were European Champions it was Utd v West Ham. First players walking of the West Ham coach were Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters. Three World Cup winners like bronzed gods of football. And then the game, I saw my idols that day, Bobby Charlton, George Best, Brian Kidd, I think Denis was injured that day. Utd won 5-2. It’s shown on tv now and then.
So real, insightful and inspirational for younger players (and young people in general). Thanks for sharing! Brings back memories of my own- growing-up and playing school football in the 70s, playing for Greater Manchester School boys, trialling at Oldham, dreaming of playing for United just like you… wonderful to hear about your own experiences as boys dreaming of making it- The Football Pink!! Love it!!
Played against Nicky when he was at high school in semi finals for Wright Robinson . Absolute different gravy you could tell he was going to make it then .
Had the privilege of having both of you coaching me at stretford high when you were both yts at utd. One of my greatest memories of my childhood. 2 of the greatest without doubt
Omg this was actually very insightful regarding the difference in class between the 90s footballers and the modern footballer. The rollockings, the tough love, the hustle and the general come up was completely different
Good to watch these two reminiscing, I’m 51 so these guys are my happiest memories of the 90’s. Scholesy board of running his own gym, not sure what butty been up to. But that’s why I’m here lads. Love these 2 👊🫶🏻
Remember watching the overhead kick goal on my friends ‘Manchester United on Video’ VHS tape. Newcastle United fan but loving listening to these. Brings back memories…… Nicky was great for us when he moved.
This is great. It was such a pleasure to follow United back then when the backbone of the team was solid pros and this bunch of legends. Nothing but pure desire to win from all quarters. Glory days.
Good to have all these stories down on record. It helps that Nicky Butt talks at 1000mph! It was a different time back then (obviously). Like you two, I grew up in Manchester in the 70s/80s and I used to catch the bus or ride my bike everywhere. I almost never got a lift anywhere.
Mr Coffee never stopped going on about "finding Scoles". It's mad hearing him talk about my school and area. I remember Tommy's chippy and Kiddo living in Alky
I think its the most I've ever heard these two speak 😂 I'm not a man u fan and they rarely did punditry or speaking on camera so I've barely heard Nicky Butt speak 😂. This was great, even though I'm not a man u fan , these are from my generation, I remember football being exactly how they explain it , paying your subs , buses there , 14 or 15 going miles to play football , no way would kids now do that. I basically sat listening to this just reminiscing about the old days , 40 minutes flew by and before you know it I'm back in the real world 😂 Great podcast 👏

Pity butty or scholsey never gave him a mention. There is a book written about him called Forever Young utds lost star. It's a great book wonderful and tragic story. RIP DOC 🙏
Iam a Liverpool fan and iam 65 and these 2 were great players but great lads from a fantastic team and Manager ,you have to put all the Bollox to one side every now and then
Thanks guys great show. Can't help feeling that United, like Dortmund, has always given young players a genuine route to 1st team football, which many other clubs don't truely offer.
Great lads...!....a pleasure to listen in....from an old guy....from Wrexham....who was lucky enough to see George Best at his peak.... sorry Nicholas...but Paul...is my favourite United player after The Great George...such. a talent..cheers.
What a fantastic conversation...United are my second team but such an engaging watch...especially listening to Nicky Butt who I've never heard talk at such length before
Watching mufc for over 30years I love hearing you guys talk about your experiences to greatness. Love class of 92 and all great players that have played at our club. Still watch the games over and over again ❤❤❤
Really enjoyed listening to the podcast, watched the class of 92 progressing at close range,,iwas a steward at United and remember the young players always trying to get seats in my section to watch the first team, great lads proper down to earth.
Fantastic podcast! The best! Just to get some insight into the lads and their experiences at youth and beyond is fascinating to me and so enjoyable. To hear the lads mention Lilleshall was brilliant because I played their as a young player myself. lol

Great watch this. 42 years old and been a united fan my whole life, met youse all numerous times at the cliff and gave me my greatest years as a football fan Falling out of love with football more and more each season as the game is just getting worse and worse Majority of players are a disgrace, officials are a shambles Even the "fans" these days ain't real fans. Tourists and Instagrammers that have no interest in what's going on on the pitch and majority of games like a library 💤💤💤 People these days can't have rivalry without being abusive I've been a utd fan my whole life but lived right next to maine road and we did car minding there every city home game and there was a steward that let us jump the turnstiles numerous times Kinkladze was one of the best players I've ever seen He he would run rings around the majority of today's players
I must say in the 90s I didn't really know who was better Butt or Scholes. Nicky played some of the most important games and Paul was on the bench. Nicky also had a wonderful 2002 world cup. A combative midfielder we so desperately need these days at Manchester United. Would trade Bruno and Marcus for both of them any day a week and twice on Sunday.
When Alex Ferguson was manager of St Mirren, he would drive through Paisley town with a megaphone out his window shouting, get down and support your local club ! One of a kind.
There’s just some players that even though they play or played for your fierce rivals you just have to respect. I was going to most games most season at Old Trafford during the Mancini and Pellegrini era at City. During the derbies at OT, whenever most players came over to take a corner (that’s where my seats were in The Stratford End) they’d get torrential abuse! Especially players like Milner. But whenever David Silva would come over to take a corner, there would be little to no abuse. He was just one of those players that we all recognised was class, on and off the pitch, and most of us recognised that even though we weren’t exactly gonna applaud him when he came over, but not abusing him was our sign of respect. There’s been many other City players I’ve respected over the past 10 years or so also.
As an lfc fan you would think I'd be sick of all the tv and internet RUclips coverage of Man united, but i have to admit i do enjoy this podcast and the overlap paul is one of my favourite pundits top man, great podcast boys
This is brilliant. Really enjoying this series. I'm in my 30s, spent my childhood looking at these guys like absolute heroes. Love every minute of it.
Love it! Thanks a bunch ❤
These guys are the definition of 'down to earth' - always have been and still are! Great Podcast!

They don't think they're comedians or pundit superstars either. It's a welcome change.
Glad you're on board Gary
fantastic, We don't hear enough about Nicky Butts history, and what a good talker he is. great stuff.

Teenagers are more allowed to be themselves these days but I fear many with potential aren't pushed enough as have to be handled with kid gloves.
@arthurthistlewood1225 I hear you, they're a strange mix of bold as brass and brittle glass.

Love these chats between Scholes and Butt. Gravy for United fans.
When Alex Ferguson was manager of St Mirren, he would drive through Paisley town with a megaphone out his window shouting, get down and support your local club ! One of a kind.
I've been absolutely loving these shows. Been taking a shot every time Butty says "dynamics".
City fan here. Really enjoyed this. And if I’m ever asked who was the best all round player you’ve ever seen Paul Scholes is always my answer.
This is absolute gold. Love it.
As an lfc fan you would think I'd be sick of all the tv and internet RUclips coverage of Man united, but i have to admit i do enjoy this podcast and the overlap paul is one of my favourite pundits top man, great podcast boys
