    From an American fan, which may drastically change my perception, Rooney is certainly a legend. The goals he has scored, his power was something to behold. Obviously he has not aged well but in his day he was a fantastic player. Watching United videos when I was playing high school soccer was something to behold, and Rooney was a major, major part of that. I wish him and his family the best. GGMU!

    He's the clubs all time top scorer, that alone makes him 100%, no doubt, absolutely, nothing else but a legend.

    Rooney is a victim of his own success. He shot out of the traps like a beast, scoring that hat-trick against Fenerbahce. Then going on to score countless important, memorable and special goals. A lot of people started expecting him to do that every week, which is just unrealistic. The only thing I could question Rooney on is performance levels in the last few years of his United career, but a lot of that has been down to him not playing regularly in the same position. He has always been a player that has needed to play week-in week-out, and get at least a dozen games under his belt before he reaches a certain level of performance. If he gets that at Everton, I think he may well just surprise a few people. Confidence is a huge part of Rooney's game, once he reaches that level of consistent performance and scores a goal...history shows he scores in clusters.
    But look, anyone that gives us what he has on the pitch over the course of ten years or more is a Legend. Anyone that scores more goals for us than any other player throughout history is a Legend. We can analyze Wayne Rooney's personality or things that he's done off the pitch all day long, but I think he's given us all he ever could on the pitch...even if that sometimes wasn't enough.
    P.s. Props for the '68 shirt Howson.

    Rooney was an Everton fan, I can get over him not taking to us much, he came to win trophies, he did, he was a hell of a player for us, he is a legend IMO and I hope he does good at Everton

    Rooney was a class act, no one can deny that. Sadly like most (not all) older players, he did lose that edge he had. I ripped the piss out of him last year, but I have done that with other United player. I want United to win every game and every competition. And he needed to go like many others. He was a legend. But role on the next ones.

    Great podcast Howson, I loved the talk about milan that side was unreal, I am only 18 so obviously can only see documentaries and youtube videos on them but I done research on them more so when I found out that Arrigo Sacchi was never a professional footballer as I am looking to begin my FA Coaching badges and want to become a manager in the future so he became an inspiration to me and that side was filled with absolute class so that was great to hear on the podcast!

    Without doubt, Wazza is a Utd, England and Football Legend. For a player that just wants to play football, and will always sacrifice himself for the team, to have won everything and broke all these records is testament enough. Imagine Ronaldo playing different positions to accommodate Rooney, and I've never thought of Wazza as a striker or no.10, just an all out attacking midfielder, so to be Utd and Englands all time scorer, and he could've scored more if he'd just been a selfish cunt playing up top, is awesome. The thing with not connecting as much with the fans I don't get because he gets slated more by his own fans than rivals, and they actually say it's a disgrace how Utd fans treat him, so I kind of agree with him not being like Paddy. Just think if you'd won all he's won for your club and broke all time records, and your fans have debates about whether or not you're a legend. Like you've said before, I look forward to the day when Rashford has won everything and has all the records, and we're saying he's finished and it's time to go. #WazzaUtdEnglandFootballLegend

      the club had just sold Ronaldo and sign valencia(Who was not good at the time) and ashley young. if you think the club was being ambious you're delusional. A player of Rooney's ability would want to be in a club with ambition.
      He never wanted to move to city specifically, that was the newspapers saying that. i doubt he'd ever say that.
      there, defended.

    George Best missed hundreds of training sessions.
    Beckham left because of one single moment.
    Van Nistelrooy made a transfer request because he fell out with Ferguson.
    Ronaldo fucked off as soon as Madrid came calling.
    All of these people are respected 'legends'. So why the flying fuck does Rooney get shit for ONE transfer request which he never even went through with anyway?

    Can’t actually believe you’re having the conversation. He is uniteds best player EVER. If not at least best striker. No one has done it for as long and as consistently for United as him.

    this isn't even a question, if you call sir Bobby a legend why not Rooney a legend look at the records he has broken and all the titles he has won 100% legend.. in 20 years time when the doubters look back then they will say he is a legend...

    • @StephenHowson

      Stephen Howson FC I'm 36 been following this club since I was 10 I know the club well my friend... let me ask you a question what makes a legend?

    • @StephenHowson
      @StephenHowson  7 лет назад +1

      It's a gut feeling. It isn't statistics, but connection with fans is a big part of it. Is Stan Pearson a bigger legend than Cantona?

    • @vasi2161
      @vasi2161 7 лет назад +1

      Stephen Howson FC I think Stan pearson is a bigger legend then cantona but that is my opinion

  • @fabers92
    @fabers92 7 лет назад

    For me he is a football legend, but there's a difference between legends and players you love, and I've never loved him like I do scholes, gigs and becks. I get the same feeling with de gea, if he stays he'll be legendary but you can never have the love for him when you know he has his heart in madrid

  • @xSki11edHawk
    @xSki11edHawk 7 лет назад +2

    For me he's a football legend but not a united legend just because of the connection with the fans and him always being Everton. If he was united through and through and would kill for the badge like me and match going fans there wouldn't even be a question mark

    • @smokeyjoe6416

    09/10 Rooney was arguably the best striker in the world.. The injury killed him

  • @p_rob_hob205
    @p_rob_hob205 7 лет назад +5

    Course he's a legend. George Best is considered a legend and one of the "Trinity" bit he fucked the club about something shocking. going AWOL and missing training. Rooney's two transfer requests wether we as united fans like it or not were understandable, especially the second one when he had fallen out with fergie and he'd been benched. fair play to him, least he didn't want to sit on the sidelines and take a wage for doing nothing.

    • @xSki11edHawk
      @xSki11edHawk 7 лет назад

      Philip Hobbs even if Best missed training he would still be the fittest on the pitch even if he was drinking the night before that's why

    • @p_rob_hob205
      @p_rob_hob205 7 лет назад +1

      xSki11edHawk So the fittest and best players on the team can just skip training and miss matches when they want? doesn't set a great example to the other players I'd say and definitely not legendary behavior.

    • @xSki11edHawk
      @xSki11edHawk 7 лет назад

      Philip Hobbs but this was george best and it was a different era and different mentality. I think george best is better than Rooney anyway so

    • @p_rob_hob205
      @p_rob_hob205 7 лет назад +2

      xSki11edHawk That's fair enough, I'm definitely not doubting Bests ability and what he achieved in the pitch but a lot of fans need to realise the hypocrisy in saying Rooney isn't a united Legend whilst championing Best who like it or not missed games and refused to travel with his team mates to games.

    • @tervanruth6024
      @tervanruth6024 7 лет назад

    Lads... Denis Law joined City and scored against us. He's a part of the Trinity. Rooney was an Everton fan and handed in a transfer request, so fuckin what. Rooney and what he did in that No. 10 shirt, and becoming OUR all time top scorer is enough for me to make the man the last legend we'll probably have. Yous all wanted him gone and he went. Give him the status he deserves and let it be.

      Stephen Howson FC nah I don't blame you. But because we're such a unique club, we can afford to label so many players as legends (especially in the modern era). Rooney deserves legendary status based on the fact he's record goal scorer. I do think Olè's a greater legend though (could be confusing it with cult hero mind)
