Yo man good video! I've been riding the same set up you have for the past year; 8.75-9 inch boards, ace 55s, 56 mm spitfire f4 and I think its a great set up for transition. I do ride my trucks with no washers on the top and bottom and 1/8 inch risers now so its a little squirrely when I'm going fast in bigger bowls but its a fun set up for the parks I skate. Good points about having a wider nose for transition, you can hurt yourself badly if you miss the nose on tricks like disasters, fakie rocks, backside airs.
@@BigAlSkateTutorials Haha it does come with some gnarly wheelbite slams might be a little counterintuitive. That's crazy that some of your friends ride with 2 or 3 bolts on a truck, never heard of that before.
I got some raws 3 years ago and noticed they instantly felt like riding a bike, like I was going about 15 percent faster than my previous bearings. I loved them, but then after a week my bearing totally blew out on flat ground. I just got another set to try them out again, but that sketched me out. Also, 8.65-8.8 is the goldilocks of board sizes🫡 I wish they made somewhere around a 8.65 truck as that would be the best for someone in those board ranges ( I also like having trucks a bit narrower than my deck, but not by much.) I can’t wait till the ace af1 hollows come out. Keep up the great vids!
Glad I came across your channel been watching Dowdy's channel since he started his channel. And I'm with you when it comes to gripping boards. I'm batting around .200 or 20% out of 10 boards as far as a janky grip job.... On another note and I think this comes with age/the older I get I tend to personalize a little more always trying something different from past grip jobs... And never just slapping on grip tape covering the whole board... Every board you setup when setting up a complete in my opinion feels kinda ritualistic. Personalizing and putting your touch on skateboard should be fun and meaningful. It's almost like a relationship... It is a relationship....
If you don't use spacers and washers the bearings will not operate properly. The inner race ends up spinning on the axle when they're not connected by washers and spacers. Might as well just buy ones at that point.
Greetings from another tall skateboarder from Germany :) Could you make a video about being tall and skateboarding? Maybe some tips, etc... Keep up the great content
What’s up homie! As matta fact I have a video that covers all that right here check it out! ruclips.net/video/mELXYVc1J-o/видео.html Thanks for your support!
Greetings from the ATL. I’m 6,3 and big feet. Not sure what it is in metric but I’m tall. 😅 I like 9 inch anti hero boards. I’m an old guy now so I only ride transitions nowadays so a big board works for me. Great video welcome Germany ! 🫡
Nice setup, I'm going to put a washer on the outside too, thanks for that. Spitfire formula four are great, slide nicely. Also, I might try rails. Nice one
glad you also stuggle with gripping boards, ive been skating 15 years but i only get a fresh set up every few years so i never get that good at setting things up
Nice setup! I also just bought my first pair of ACE 44 AF1. Can’t wait to try them out. Rails are lot of fun for slappies and definitely helps to balance with longer boardslides. Thanks for the video and cheers from Finland! 😊🤙
So stoked you did this in detail. Glad to have you back on the ace train. Didn't you ride for them? I like to put soap shavings in my pivot cups to avoid squeaking / wearing through them prematurely.
Thank you haha it s funny you say that I thought it was only gonna be like 10 min ended up being this whole thing but more the merrier right! Ya used rude for them, best company best dudes. Smart never thought of that, could totally see how that works tho
One way to get rails attached, is to use strong double faced adhesive tape. eliminates all the noise and really keeps them attached. I personally kind of liked all the noise from loose rails, especially in board slides, but stopped drilling after first time attaching them with tape.
Ace af1's with the nut flush with the kingpin, rides like a dream. Also I ride Bronson ceramics and they are faster than my buddy's bones Swiss ceramics 😂😂😂 and they almost a 3rd of the price.
I have never thought about licking the wheels when putting bearings in 😂 that is definitely an interesting little hack. Is this a shop that you ride for or you just like to support your local?
Hahaha trust me I thought it was the strangest thing when a friend showed me, but it worked like a charm tbh! I just support the local but def wouldn’t mind riding for them either
This isn’t much of a hack but this is from the experience of trying to grip my kids skateboard decks as well as a couple of my own. I would say make sure your blade really really sharp. There was one deck on did it look like a beaver was chewing the edges.
It blows my mind when I see people sanding and cutting their grip in their house. I get that you can vacuum up after but that’s just adding another process into putting a board together.
I can’t skate a board I didn’t grip. I skated one board I didn’t grip and broke my board and arm at the same time. Ever since then I refuse to skate a board I didn’t grip.
people that are riding their boards using the nose as a tail fall into the same category as people that put pineapple on their pizza. y'all should be admitted..
Bad Brains inspired board graphic!! 💯🤘
Thanks for sharing your tips-You have a wealth of knowledge and you are a great communicator!

Couldn’t have said any better!! Will definitely have to try the no washers out, sounds promising! Thanks for the tip

AF1 60 are 8.75
Any interest in trying out the AF1 60 8.75" trucks?

GREAT SET UP BIG AL WISH YOU HAD PRO BOARD FOR MY COMPANY
If you like using the axle washers, you’ll love using bearing spacers! Especially on transition with better bearings and bigger wheels ;)
Bearing spacers have always been there to prevent damage from overtightening, and prolong the life of bearings.
If you don't use spacers and washers the bearings will not operate properly. The inner race ends up spinning on the axle when they're not connected by washers and spacers.
Might as well just buy ones at that point.
thanks for sharing your knowledge me and my kids love your channel!! keep up the great work

Great video man and nice Bulldog poster on the wall haha. Love from England!
I remeber seeing you on one of Zak's video's saying you ride 8.5 decks. What made you change to 8.75?.
I have two washers on the inside of my wheel and one out the outside to save the ends of my axels
Nice setup, I'm going to put a washer on the outside too, thanks for that. Spitfire formula four are great, slide nicely. Also, I might try rails. Nice one
Thanks James! Ya the double washer definitely helps with speed and keeping that wheel rolling and I’m a big supporter of rails

Cheers my friend thanks for supporting the channel! Enjoy your AF1’s you’re going to love them✊
I'm trying to decide between conical or conical full 54mm, what do you think?

YESSAUH BIG GOAT
This video helped me so much, fuckin love your style man! You skate how I want to skate and it’s really cool seeing how you do shit!
nice deck and setup
I’m 6’5” and around 215lbs. Don’t you feel that those Aces are VERY squirly and prone to wheel biting?
Also that board looks and sounds sick.
Have you tried hard bushings? That might help, I think most stock bushings are towards the medium-soft side
@@derekflow I’m still waiting on Ace’s own Hards finding their way to Europe. I’ve tried jerry rigging some 96A Indie bushings but it feels off.
@@RikRiorik id reccomend if u really want harder bushings the bones are really good and last as long or more then the trucks life
@@super-bi5xv I’ve gotten Aces own Hard bushings now. But not gonna lie trucks still feel kind of loose 😂.
@@RikRiorik if they still feel loose for u considering ur weight and height i heavily reccomend bones hard bushings then

I really luv 60 mm hawk wheels . Thinking about the Spitfires what durameter are those? The Hawks are 89b I ride.✌️👍
