"It's my video I'll do what I want" 🤣
The best part 😂
Great video man lol. $2K USD is an excellent deal for what this offers.
Patrick Tomasso I'm thinking about buying either the S5 or a Sony A7c for my person studio where I will be performing live music streaming as well as cutting video content concerning my music project. I'm just wondering if you think the relatively poor autofocus would be a deal breaker for that application Vs. the Sony. I think I much prefer the look of the Panasonic out of camera, and the 10 Bit applications for shooting music videos DIY also appeals to me. I realize you can color grade anything to look nicer, but I feel like when there's less work that needs to be done there's less of a chance you'll overdo anything.
@@TheCarymiller I think you will want the autofocus for your situation. I’d go with the Sony
I literally just got chills when you showed the pro res raw footage. Crazy thing is, i was watching it in 480p. Panasonic just came with the next gen version of the GH5. This camera will have the same legendary impact on the game. Ppl years from now will be making “why the s5 is still the best camera for beginning filmmakers” type videos
Cant get any better review than this . Spot on....! thoroughly Enjoyed each and every bit of it.
Loving all of the Panasonic content! I feel like every other channel only talk about Sony cameras. Good to see you showing some Lumix love.

Bro I love how much quick shade on haters you throw in this video, especially at the end. Great video. Been considering this camera.
Very smooth man, kudos for your eloquence & on camera skills.
Love your no bs approach man!
Dude. Coming from a 6D, nearly bought the GH6. You've sold me on the S5. Hybrid usage for me and the price is incredible. Really enjoyed your videos so far - just subscribed!
Woah! 4:3 Aspect Ratio!!! OMG the photos and videos look SOOOO GOOOD!!! 😍😍😍 Amazing video as always Patrick!!! 😁
Thanks! 😃
You had me laughing hard at several points in this video 😂 Great video man - 4:3 is a really interesting look, great for sharing photos in video! S5 is an absolute beast of a camera. Keep up the good work man 👏
thanks Arran!
Great info, I’m definitely keeping an eye on this camera. In the next year or so I need to get a camera. The vibe you have going with your photos on Twitter have been fun to see!
🙌🙌🙌
You have a really nice grading style I enjoy and it really comes out with this camera.
Thanks so much!
Man the falls, moods hitting right. Looks like a ghost town. Wish the S5 was out before I dropped all that $$$ on the S1H, value on this thing is (as you said) REALLY good. Enjoyed this one mate, nice to see you and Lee out doing shit.
Definitely agree with you about that 20-60, wasn't super impressed at first but it's been growing on me for sure! Also loving the 4:3
The old Canon 18-55 made us think all kit lenses are bad. LOL.
Such a good review! I had no idea about this camera. Surprising that it hasn't had much uptake in terms of content online about it. Those photos and that footage looked fantastic
yeah its like it lives in the twilight zone or something. total sleeper hit.
@@impatrickt it's definitely been in the outer limits of RUclips's attention

Awesome video. So love the outro music
Thanks! It’s by Makeup And Vanity Set on Musicbed.
Your reverse phycology worked on me. I literally subbed at 2:21 after a good laugh. Great vid!
I wish I could say that was my intention but im not nearly smart enough to have pulled off a move like that hahah
Just came across your channel from Gerald. Loving your stuff on the S5 since I was just given one to test! Loving how good you make it look so I'll be deffo checking in for some pointers. Cool video. Great shots! :) Cheers Patrick.

Great presentation..!
Thanks for showing the stills quality! Hard to find non-video centric reviews if this camera.

Dang it’s been a while since I came by. Really missed your videos! This was too good and that classic PT vibe really made me feel nostalgic. Wish I could make some content again soon 🥲
Hey dude!
Yo dude - Great vid! Good to know you are Canadian.
Hey, thanks!
I also use xt-3 and recently bought the lumix s5 with 20-60 lens and the lumix 85 mm 1.8. As much as I lime fuji colors this lumix surprises me with how good the color came out. I’m glad I bought it. Will pair this with my xt-3 for clients works.
Amazing!
Thanks! I just placed my order. 🤙🏽
heck ya. enjoy!
P.T. = Perfect timing 😂 great stuff as always
There is something watching this ratio on the iPad Pro, great use of the screen. I’m planning on getting the S5, hopefully this next year.
Loved the way you shot and presented this video, just looks sooo nice!! I'm cureently saving up for a new camera, and I've been contemplating whether to get the Lumix S1 or the S5. Currently I'm leaning towards the S1, as despite being a couple years older, it's still a beast of a camera. That being said, after having watched this video, I know I'll be getting a solid camera if I get either of them.
yeah the only major glaring issue for me with the S1 is the size. I really can't stand big bulky cameras. I just do too much work that's fast paced and on the go - I love that the S5 feels smaller than my GH5, and if you need to rig it up for a longer production you have a nice compact base point + once rigged you'll be using an external monitor anyways so you can just Ninja V the 6K Pro-Res or Pro-Res RAW and the recording differences go out the window between the two. I'm honestly going to start shooting the 10 BIT HD 24 on this camera for RUclips. It's so damn sharp.
Photo wise both cameras are indistinguishable in image quality. You'd have a hard time seeing a difference in video too. Hope that helps you save some $$ for lenses which is where you'll see the most vast improvement in image quality.
Now it's even better with a bunch of Lumix reasonable price prime lens.I looked at some photos from this camera with the 50 mm 1.8 and the images are stunning.
Glad they finally released the Tomasso cut
Subscribed, Love your style but oh man those pictures of the motel are outstanding and are some of the most film like images i've seen come off a CMOS digital. I'm very interested in how you are editing in post, are you using specific luts or adjusting colours specifically in lightroom? Incredible going man.
appreciate it! I use capture one and just sort of playing around until things start looking right. its a wonderful program you should check it out!
@@impatrickt Thank you for the reply! Been using LRC for a couple of years now but may need to give C1 a try, I usually try play around myself and try use Luminance/Sat values to subtly tweak the images without going 100% instagram preset! Keep making awesome vids man.
This was the most pt video ever made, and i loved every second of it.
now the real question, will you use this camera for your new twitter of you holding things? THE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW
I WILL! and I have been! except I kinda like how the 12 pro max portrait mode looks for those shots hahah
@@impatrickt the 12 pro Max portrait is a HUGE upgrade from my 8 plus. I’m constantly impressed. But when it comes to video I still like “the look” of my little canon M6 better and I can’t figure out why. 🤷🏻♂️
@@JohnTheCoach_ in video almost any camera is gonna look better than the iPhone so you’re not crazy!
S5 is the only camera to come close to the GH5 IBIS. Love the 4:3 like everyone else

Haha awesome one, esp about the math. Even now,I'm considering chucking in everything with my g9 and getting the s5.

Bro - i'm really thinking of getting this body as a Fujifilm Xpro 2 user. Love Fuji and I have really got the Lumix bug, so many features!
Great video, funny and informative. Im looking at the gh5, im a beginner is that a good camera. You got a new subscriber from Norway.
GH6 is months away. Probably wait!
@@impatrickt what do you think the gh6 will cost. I see you can get a pretty good price on the gh5

Hi Patrick, wait for the GH6 or get the S5 now?

There’s so many good cameras out. I started RUclips with the GF1. This camera being this good and this cheap is tempting. Panasonic holds a special place to me.
They always seem to be the underdog punching way above their weight class!
Excellent video! Love your photos and videos! I also kinda get post-war vibes in the photo and video samples, is it just me ?🤔
wow scary motel! But great S&Q shots!
Thanks for the nice video you posted, full of technical and thoughtful details.
in fact it is really a well made and complete camera, Pro-sumer and Pro, for a demanding and evolut use.
To be considered with the excellent Sigma Contemporary optics, especially the standard “Sigma 45mm F2,8 DG DN C”, the Zoom 28-70mm F2.8 C, and 24-70mm 2.8 Art for a highly professional use of course.....
Note: also check out the Panasonic firmware updates that add significant features with every update (also grab an updated manual while you're at it - they update it with every feature update). Fantastic camera.
9:41 those photos from the slideshow look just SO freaking amazing! How are these images edited, if I may ask? They've got that super genuine 90s kind of film look
i edited them from scratch
Thanks for the insight man. I'm looking for a 2nd body.. my first is sony
Happy to help! Holler if you have questions.
OMG Patrick you're an absolute savage 🤣
Think I got bed bugs just watching that old hotel footage. Good stuff.

The aspect ratio made me feel like I was actually there in the photos. Haven’t had that feeling on RUclips....so trippy

Great video! I’ve been on the fence about going to a full frame Lumix. There’s just something about Panasonics color science that I haven’t been able to replicate in my Sony cams. Really slept on.
the new color science that was introduced with S1/S1H etc that's trickled down to the S5 and BGH1 is one of my favourite out of camera looks right now. I'd say only the BM Pocket's are better in the sub $5K range. That being said.. S-Cinetone is really nice on Sony. I plan on doing a video about Lumix's latest Like709 profile which reminds me a lot of S-Cinetone.
@@impatrickt I’m working with S-Cinetone now. Its a great look but not *my* look and it really punctuates the difference between the sony and lumix footage in my videos. I’ve got a lot of work to do to get my head around it.

Just bought one of these finally. $1650 B&H deal with body, free bag, 85mm 2.8, 64GB SD 😫😤 stepping up from a6400 LOL
how do you find it so far
@@FDFchannel1 it’s a Sony killer imo, video autofocus is a little different than I’m used to with Sony though and requires some tweaking. You have to make sure you use the right AF mode for what you’re filming and it’s not as fast but has good tracking. Photos have blown me away, lowlight is probably 7/10 compared to Sony but still very usable
I'm about to shoot a film and I want to shoot it with a full frame... I've been using the Sony a6400 for a long time. Actually just shot a feature film during the pandemic with my LG V40 smartphone, and it was awesome, so no tech snobbery here, for sure. I've been deep-diving your videos. I'm leaning toward this camera now. All your fault. ;) I mostly use manual focus, even when shooting myself, and so, just "decent" autofocus is fine with me. The stabilization sounds key for me. Anyway... Thanks for all the amazing, generous content. I've learned so much from your channel about Panasonic, after being a "Sony only" person for quite a while. Peace/Respect
cheers! good luck with the film.

Sir how to get correct image in viewfinder or monitor before Photoshot.... As like as what we see in video... Shoot
Your review is insightful. Question: do you have any idea if the S5 and the GH5 colors can match up well in a multi-cam shoot?
Gh5 looks pretty dated now but you could get it close enough.
@@impatrickt thank you.

This kit is super enticing now that they dropped it $300. Definitely thinking about this...
yeah $1997 is the sale pricing. good deal.
@@impatrickt you don’t have any concerns getting into the L mount? I know a lot of people seem to be skeptical or not the biggest fans of the L mount and the lenses that are available for it.
@@dericsanchez4081 ive never understood why. you have 3 massive companies making killer lenses for it (Leica, sigma, and panasonic) + you can also adapt a bunch of lenses. the roadmaps from Sigma and Lumix alone are better than anything Sony or Canon has announced for RF or E-Mount. Those new e-mount primes are all f2.5. The S Primes cover the entire spectrum at F1.8 for less than $700 a pop and they're compact. Canon FD lenses look especially good on these cameras for video too.
@@impatrickt yeah I agree. I think some people just see the GM lenses that Sony is releasing and then crap on any other lenses. But I mean those cost so much more than the S primes will for Panasonic. I was even thinking about getting just the body and the new Sigma 28-70 f2.8 but maybe it would be better to just get the kit lens and then the Panasonic or Sigma 85mm...
@@dericsanchez4081 I cant fathom how anyone could think Leica is the cream of the crop for glass... and then think L mount isn't worth investing in. It's bizarre!

Hey Patrick, nice video, do you reckon we we see the Panasonic GH6 soon? And will it blow the competition out of the water? Particularly with Panasonic's own S5?
It’s already confirmed. It will always be micro four thirds. I’m expecting a good camera but nothing I would trade full frame for.
@@impatrickt, yeah I heard it was coming, but I love my GH5/GH5s so much. Mind you, I would consider the S5! :)

do you have videos or lessons about color correction? colors in this video so great, i want to eat them, i want to be in this colors
I have to ask since you usually link the fujifilm xt3 as your favorite camera- do you prefer the s5 to the xt3?
By a long shot. XT3 is a fun hipster camera. I probably won’t ever get rid of it.
Ok, so I'm a beginner filmmaker/video editor who just graduated college with a Communication Studies: Media Production degree and I'm looking for something to step up my game in preparation for finding an entry level job that might have me travel and shoot things. For about $2400 I can get the kit lens, the Ronin SC, two really nice SD cards, and an adapter so that I can still use my EF mount lenses (with limited functionality, but it's better than nothing). Do I get this or the Canon EOS R (or a different camera)? I know anything is an upgrade from my Canon T5 but I wanna make sure I make the right purchase decision here. I'm also huge into photography as a hobby so being able to shoot awesome stills is a bonus, but it's not neccesary if going for something like a Blackmagic Pocket 4K would be THAT much better for the money when it comes to video. This video is awesome and I really like your content regardless if you're able to get back to me or not but I'd love to hear your input on this.
S5 or A7SIII?
I'm looking into a profressional 4K 60 full frame, I don't want to compromise quality.

Hey, good video. I just bought a lumix s5 but I don’t see the master pedestal or the SS gain operation on my menu in image quality. Why is that? Did I get a broken camera?
there is no master pedestal setting. you can set shutter angle or shutter speed in settings.

Yeah and I would just get the XT3 if you want the XT4. The ibis is so bad on the XT4.
@@impatrickt Yeah I also feel like if I really don’t need IBIS if it’s not amazing. And I’m already used to poor battery life. How would you compare the 10bit and codecs this camera offers compared to the XT3/XT4

Hello from France! Thanks for this review. What can you say about lowlight perf? Is it real that at 4 000 iso de have à second iso like 640/1200? And How does it comport in lowlight againt Panasonic s5?
yeah its dual ISO - the 4000 is super clean. not so much in APS-C mode but definitely in full frame. I think maybe you mean against the S1/S1H? its' the same sensor. you won't notice any practical difference in image quality between the S cameras.
