Rancid 2000, my all-time favorite album! After "Poison," you take a breather with "Loki," and then BAM, "Blackhawk Down" hits you HARD! Oh my goodness, this album is so amazing! Even today, I feel like smashing stuff (not literal) when I listen to certain songs because I remember the rest of the album and I go nuts! If i had to name my best friends in life, alongside people I would put this album. Thank you, Matt.

My friend got this album right after it came out and three of us would be at his apartment in awe listening to this album. We were all freshmen in highschool. No exaggeration, this album blew us away for several reasons, one of which was the incredible basslines. At that time we'd never heard anything remotely like any of it. We were seriously obsessed with this album for a while; we actually ended up getting And Out Come The Wolves a couple months later, and of course it's a classic, but this one really hit us like a truck. I also loved a lot of the melodies on this album, a lot of which I considered strange at the time, stuff like Don Giovanni, Loki. This album has stuck with me for 23 years now and I still listen to it frequently.
I'll never forget those days, staring at the back of that album, wishing I could start my own punk band. I tried several times in high school and it never worked out. Big regret not following through on that.

@@PunkTome our drummer kept saying he didn't want to do punk because the drums are too hard. 😂 I'd just tell him it's all about the spirit. We didn't have to sound like Rancid afterall; few bassists sound like Freeman. We never even found a decent bassist unfortunately. These days bass is my instrument. Wish I was playing bass back then instead of guitar; I might've been able to put together a decent band.

The bass tone and riffs on this album are so excellent.
I have always loved Tim's vocal intro into this song coming out of I Am Forever on the record. So sick.

I'm not the greatest at bass guitar, but I am a visual learner and this is way better than looking up tabs on how you play stuff!!!
Some of the best straight up bass lines ever are from this album. Young al capone is bonkers and needs to be on here
This is my favourite Rancid song. Definitely the first Rancid song I really dug into and learnt on the bass, and learnt all the lyrics. Which are some of Tims best. But the bass is relentless and a proper workout on your forearms..! Cheers Matt.

I have loved this song since I first heard it on Punk O Rama 5. Your playing has been a huge influence on how I write basslines for Gross!
Hell yeah. I didn't think you'd be playing this! This is my favorite song from my favorite album. I've always liked the bass line in this song especially. The great transition to the top notes in verses. It's very creative, and now I can see how to play it perfectly.

Anyone else have the copy of the cd where this song has that glitch around the :54 mark? Still weird sometimes hearing the normal version haha.
Our version had that. In another comment I talked about my friend getting this CD right after it came out. We'd argue about whether that skip was intentional or how the song was supposed to be. I was convinced it was a glitch of some kind, my friend was sure it was part of the song. My other buddy was usually too stoned to say anything. 😂
Anyway I'm so used to that version of the song I was sure it was about to happen here and I was waiting for it, but nope, Matt has the fixed version.

2005 i think. Music Coursework was Its Quite Alright on bass. Got a B. Got a B in math aswell. go figure.
That and Lars' version of To have and To Have not i played bass on somebody elses Coursework
and Greeday When i Come Around for another frends coursework.
I couldn't have done it better but i got a B for it, perhaps i could have chosen a more adventurous track.
Though i was surefire on Its Quite Alright. Knew it was perfect and it covers a decent scale aswell.
Perhaps i chose something that go up 3 octaives would nail the A. Though qualifcations don't even matter.
Its not like i base my employment criteria on somebodies Masters Degree. I think if you a masters degree you can go make somebody else a job. You don't need the one i'm offering. That go to somebody i identify with. Who appreciate that type of apprenticship
