Good video, there was an Angel on the Earls Crypt in the 1970s but the vandals damaged it. It may still be there behind the crypt.

Great story again, it's good that this sad ghostly lady is mentioned and not the usual well documented ones for a change. Thank you.

@@TheContinuingStories Countess Kathleen Emily Stanhope (née Carter-Wood), Countess of Harrington (1860-1949), Wife of 9th Earl of Harrington. The Countess is buried in the Annex under the tree next to the Earls of Harrington crypt because in 1949 when she died there was no more room in the crypt. It was full! I know this because Mr Stewart Madeley who is now dearly departed from this world and lived in the first house on Castle Drive told me that his father worked for the Earl of Harrington at that time. Stewart knew the Countess well. She would ride her dapple grey around the estate and stop and talk to Stewart. He said she was very nice and was always inviting the estate and village children up to the Castle for drinks and cake. The Countess lived her final days alone in the Dowager house on Station Road near the river Derwent after her husband Dudley Stanhope, 9th Earl of Harrington past away. Stewart maintained her Grave and the Crypt in good order until his death several years past. He said goodbye to me before I left as I looked after him and his lovely French wife also for 6 years and said if I ever needed a new Chicken pen he would build me one as I kept hens at home and we would talk about them when I bumped into him on my rounds and when he needed me for trouble, he kept me informed of possible trouble in his area of the estate. Bless him and his wife safe in the After Life!

There is rumours that she's buried at Elvaston and haunts the building, when i visit Elvaston it feels like being at home, vert weird! Just wish i could find out more.

I was in charge of Security there for 6 years and I met the Viscount Petersham, Hon. William Stanhope who is the Son of the current Earl of Harrington, Charles Stanhope, 12th Earl of Harrington. He shook my hand and it was numb for a week. Powerful Gentleman. He caught me sitting down in the Gothic archway just after I had had some trouble with a gang who tried to vandalise the estate. Sorry Sir William if you are reading this. I am not there anymore, all good things come to an end. Best time of my life ever protecting Elvaston Castle. Three Cheers and salutes for all the Earls and Countesses and Viscounts and Ladies of Harrington past and present
