AirPods Pro vs Premium Hearing Aids: Amplification Capabilities

- Опубликовано: 9 май 2021
- In this video, we compare the amplification capabilities of the Phonak Paradise P90 and Apple AirPods Pro using ear canal sound measurements (Real Ear Measurements). Both products are more than capable of meeting the needs of someone with mild hearing loss, but are the AirPods able to deliver enough amplification for someone with moderate, severe, or profound hearing loss? We'll answer that question with the help of Doctor of Audiology Xavier Potter at The Hearing Center, in Asheville, NC.

I actually very impressed by the AirPods. We’re talking $250 vs $7000 and they came close! Not to mentioned this is their first attempt at doing this, I can only imagine they will get better.
Yep, totally agree! Pretty impressive what they've done
Hey Chrluc, yes I agree 😊 check out our updated review for more
Very informative! Great work!
Thanks so very much 😊. I can Hear. Ret. LEO and lost hearing in left ear and little right, popped these in and the World opened up. I have not heard this great in years. Great video. Thanks.!*
Hey Irish, that’s great to hear. Thanks for watching 🙂
Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
I worked 2 yrs as a research assistant in audiology lab of USArmy early 1970s (primarily real-ear-attenuation testing of hearing protective devices). I find this series and this particular episode extremely interesting. I have the AirPod Pros and profiled myself with Mimi. Even though I am 75 now and have a family history of geriatric hearing loss, my loss is still minimal so far, but it is good to have this information and these tools available. The best practice of course is prevention whenever possible.
Thanks for the feedback!
Hey Phyzygy, we’re pleased that you find this interesting. Make sure that you subscribe for more content like this 😁
I'm a little confused, and maybe I'm just not listening closely enough. But why was he evaluating the AirPods with the Noise Cancellation On? Plus, did his ridiculous mask-wearing in a space where the videographer could easily six feet away so there would be no actual need to wear a mask that would muffle his voice, cause me to miss it when he mentioned "Transparence Mode"? Because Transparency Mode is what must be turned on for the AirPods Pro to work as a hearing aid. Yet he mentions Noice Cancellation several times. Weird. Or I'm completely wrong.
I'll ask my wife to find out.
Thanks for an interesting video. I have often wondered about using air pods as hearing aids. I also wear phonack hearing aids. I actually prefer the air pods instead of the BT feature on my hearing aids.
Hey Cory. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Give it a go. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Wearing Starkey evolv right now and i can tell you my Airpods pro are way better than the Starkeys for a tiny part of the cost.
Oh wow! Thats great to know!
One downfall of hearing aides is wind noise when you are outside with regular hearing aides. Since the airpods are noise canceling and create a tighter seal around the inner ear I'm curious if that helps to reduce that wind noise that can be super annoying. At 250 bucks you almost have to give it a shot.
Just wait for airpods pro to come out with more amplification and a longer lasting battery and the whole scammer industry will fall apart.
Hey Gilles, yes it’s an exciting industry with the current changes that we’re seeing. Roll on developments in tech. Thanks for watching, Matthew
The Pro 2nd Gen does all these. Now only $190.
Very nice. Why are you with the face mask, and the cameraman does not? LOL.
it is hard to take someone serious wearing mask to make a video. Lame
An insightful assessment of the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II would be highly appreciated. I have a personal inclination towards Bose, as they prioritize sound quality and the selection of top-notch hardware, unlike Apple, who seems to prioritize their own interests over the consumer's satisfaction.
I have confusion about airpods....
I using Phonak Audio Like. So, can I use Apple airpods pro 2?
Yes but not simultaneously. Thanks for watching 😊
is can use beats studio buds with iPhone hearing aids ?
Yes! Review coming soon. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Great video! I'm pleased someone made a video comparing AirPods Pro vs high-end HA. The AirPods are great for someone who doesn't have a serious hearing loss and just needs some amplification. They DO REQUIRE ownership or access of an iPhone capable of running ios14 at a minimum. IOS15 has added some features that are worth looking at, btw. If you have a hearing loss or think you do. Get your hearing tested professionally and decide on what's best for you based on knowledge.
Hey Greg, thanks for watching and taking the time to feed back!
They sound great. I don’t like them in the mode that hears around you, all the way to the right. Picks up too much noise around you. I hear fans and other squealing noises.
There’s a slider for ambient noise reduction and conversation boost now
@@club2772 tell us more! Have you found it to be better tuning?
The latest version of the Pro, 2022, has noise attenuation.
Thanks for watching.
Hi, my AirPods Pro transparency mode gets disconnected after 3-5 minutes of using it as a hearing device if I am moving away from the iPhone further than 10 feet.. Is it normal? Then I need to connect again manually from the control center.
Hey Greg, thanks for your feedback. Have you updated to IOS 15.4.1? Thanks for watching, Matthew
Provoding real audiogram option is coming this fall in IOS 15.
Yep! I've tested it and it's AWESOME
It is going to be a gamechanger yes! All of these are steps in the right direction. Thanks for watching.
is that available now?
The presenting audiologist needs simply to listen to his own presentation through the pros to evaluate the amplification possibilities??
Unless you can increase the airpods volume, they're mostly useless as hearing-aids imo.
Hey Jal, thanks for your thought. Have you tried them with the recent updates? Thanks, Matthew
Very poor explanation and graphs used for the explanation. They seem to be wrong too or mislabeled? Transparency mode does not work together with Noise Cancelling. We do not need to see you. If the graphs were the main focus it would have been better. We would not catch Covid via the video. The face mask for?
They also don’t fit well.
I've had pretty good success with the memory foam eartips. Have you tried those? I also figured out a way to vent them to limit the occlusion effect. ruclips.net/video/1dr_ibuPJyM/видео.html&ab_channel=AdamCarlan
Louie, you may need to change the size of the little rubber things. While the small size fits perfect, my eyes seem more plugged up feeling afterwards. So medium it is.
@@greygoose6531 I think I have medium on now. The large was only one to pass the Fit test. But it doesn’t matter which ear piece is in the slide out some. I just keep pushing them back. I love the sound of them.
Hey Louie. That’s a shame, have you tried changing the tips on the end? Yah am for watching, Matthew
Airpods pro is a joke, don’t believe that, I using it right now and it even worst than normal amplifier hearing aids
There’s a slider for ambient noise reduction and conversation boost now
@@club2772 how can I find it?
Check out our recent review for full set up details. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Please do not call it a joke, prior to knowing all of its features. The Transparency mode is the key to making it (very) close to a hearing aid.
