I used AirPods Pro as hearing aids for a few weeks to convince myself that hearing aids would help. I used an audio gram from a free hearing assessment from a high street chain audiologist. The improvement was so great that I then wanted hearing aids as soon as possible. As a side effect, I was able to have my aids set to 100% from day 1 as I was already used to the correction. I’ve now been wearing my P90R aids for about 15 hours per day every day for a month and love them.
Thank you! So informative. I'm 73, had mild hearing loss dating back to childhood measles. I compensated with lip reading, but my schoolwork suffered. The hearing loss has accelerated with age. Saw audiologist a few months ago, hearing aids recommended. Combination of cost, multiple visits for adjustments, and recommendation that they be worn all the time was discouraging. I heard about airpod pro and started researching. I need a new phone anyway, so bought a refurbished iphone. Also ordering refurbished air pod pro 2nd generation. Your information is what enabled me to go ahead.
I've been wearing hearing aids for almost 12 years and the Airpods are an amazing improvement for very little money. I sweat a lot and have short circuited my hearing aids a lot. Mowing the grass, any sports like riding my bicycle or just working around the house will usually shut my BTE hearing aids down. I just finished my normal morning routine of walking 1.7 miles and playing six games of pickleball and I'm a stinking mess but my new Airpods worked right through like a champ! Thanx for this video and your recommendation. I'm a believer.
You can use one ear pod at a time to extend the battery life. It’s a work around to charging and gives the people around you to know that you are using them to hear with. And when both are in it means you are listening to some thing and you don’t want them to bother you :)
Thank you for this informative video. Guessing most people looking for an alternative to traditional hearing aids are doing it in part because of cost savings. Would love it if the makers of traditional hearing aids could find a way to manufacture and sell them at a more reasonable cost. Those of us who are retired don’t (or can’t) necessarily want to spend 4-5000 dollars on aids. AirPods may be a realistic alternative.
Thank you so much. For someone like me, with minimal hearing loss, this is a great alternative to expensive hearing aids. I was online looking at AirPods and it's good to know you get better hearing options with the AirPods Pro.
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain how AirPod Pro's can be used as a psuedo -hearing aid. As an audiophile with moderate upper frequency hearing loss I find I spend a lot of time with my hands cupped aroung my ears to recapture that part of the audio spectrum that my unaided ears simply can no longer hear. The investment in the AirPods is minor in comparison to the prices of the top brand hearing aids. And if they work, well then...SCORE!
Hey Audiophile Today! Youre welcome, thank you for taking the time to comment. If they work for you that's excellent news!! Thanks for watching, Matthew
Very interesting to read your comments. I am also an audiophile with moderate upper frequency hearing loss Like you, when I cup my hands behind my ears I realise just how much detail I am missing. Since this video was made, the Pro 2's are out. Perhaps you now have the Pro 2's? Or have you found something better? I would love to know. I have an appointment with an audiologist tomorrow. R
I love the AirPods Pro. I have two sets that I can alternate. I think the next generation AirPods should fit better as sometimes one will just pop out of the ear. ❤ They work great for the phone. The iPhone also has great captions for phone use. ❤️
Great video: balanced and clear (like we'd like the sound to be). I would edit at the very end to make it clear that it's not the visit to the audiologist that costs thousands, it's the hearing aids; the price tag is on the technology. A clinical evaluation shouldn't be more than a couple hundred, at most, and it's worthwhile to get an accurate, thorough hearing test and also evaluation for further referral. It's great to see audio tech integrating the information we have on hearing to produce a better experience for the listener, instead of depending on trial and error with manual settings.
Hey Istkauth, thanks for taking the time to comment. A very good point too... However it's a balance between the cost of goods and service provided. Matthew
One thing to remember is that the hearing aid manufacturers are making obscene amounts of money from a device which doesn’t cost very much to produce. The R&D is minimal and the competition is almost non existent. The very very small amount of manufacturers have had a cartel for decades. One other point to make is the Apple M2 chip is so advanced that there is no other chip that can come close to its processing power. Hearing aid manufacturers cannot compete with the Apple tech but with misinformation they will muddy the waters.
I followed all the instructions and the AirPod Pro 2 worked really well as hearing aids for about a day. The next day one I put them in my ear, they seem to go back to regular AirPod mode. I didn’t change any settings. Is there some sort of toggle to put them back into hearing aid mode? Thank you
I've been wearing Philips 9030's for about 7 months now and slowly getting used to them. My major complaint is what they do to the sound of my guitars, especially my acoustic guitars. It makes them sound very tinny and metallic, especially the smaller 4 strings. I've found that my noise reduction program, which has all noise reduction on and at max, helps a bunch. But what really works it seems are my Airpods pros. I have the latest version (with my audiogram loaded) and I always use them for live music like concerts where they active noise cancellation helps so much. I have an extreme sensitivity to loud noises. Today I tried the airpods with my worst acoustic guitar and low and behold, it sounded so much better than my 9030's. While the thinner strings were bright and clear I experienced no metallic of tinny sounds and the bass notes were much richer! Amazing and I know part of that is the occluding nature of these airpods. I plan to try them tonight at a jam I'm attending. Comfort is another story as is that occlusal effect and short battery life. So while the airpods work in music situations and especially streaming music, they fail as an all day hearing aid. Wish my Costco fitter could help more with my HA but these are probably not going to be much better than this. I might try the Widex someday since I hear many musicians raving about the near zero delay, but the cost is way too much for me right now. Thanks for the review.
Very informative video, thanks for doing this. I have left ear SSD due to Covid from a year ago. Do you have any insights or guesses as to Apple's being able to use left side mics and then mix that in with the right AirPod Pro, so that I have full stereo hearing once again?
Hey John I’m really sorry to hear that and hope that you’re managing well. You’re thinking about a cros which all hearing aid manufacturers have but there’s nothing from Apple at the moment. It wouldn’t give you full stereo hearing but perhaps 360 sound… I hope that helps. Matthew
This is a great video. I’ve been wearing various Bluetooth earbuds as aids for years. I’m just about ready to purchase another set of iPod pros. Two set in years is still a third from the proper audiologist recommended aids. My hearing is bad. But not REALLY bad. Same with my sight. Not horrible, but enough that I debate between pharmacy glasses, or my proper ones. The propers, I’ve spent the same on pharmacy ones cause I need them and forgot to keep mine with me. Same as hearing. And, I can listen to tunes & videos like these without disruption.
Thanks for an excellent video with useful information. Being as I am currently bouncing through various hearing aids that my audiologist has available, with an apparently unique use case of needing Bluetooth compatibility that can switch quickly between phone and multiple PCs using multiple online meeting products (WebEx, MS Teams, Skype, Zoom, and GoToMeeting), I have not yet found any hearing aid that supports my use case. However, you have given me an alternative to consider while I wait for the industry to release an actual Bluetooth 5.2 supported hearing aid with quality hearing enhancement capabilities.
This is so interesting! I had actually wondered about using earbuds as hearing aids, but had never heard that this was actually possible. I would love to try using the Airpod Pros as hearing aids. But, as you point out, wearing these is hardly discrete and I would feel quite self conscious doing so. Still, might be worth a shot.
I have the air pod second generation as these work better in my ears. Is it possible these will work with this setup? Thanks for this informative video.
Very informative...don't you just love technology? I could see folks with iphones trying them to see if hearing aids would help them(before taking the plumge), or even using them instead of hearing aids when streaming music while in a coffee shop.
Hey Torinsall! Tech IS great! I agree completely and that’s why I’m excited about this being a potential stepping stone. I’ve already had a bunch of people get in touch after watching this video saying that they’ve downloaded the mimi app and tested themselves. I love it!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, Matthew
I would have loved to hear your assessment of AirPods Pro as hearing aids for those with moderate reverse slope hearing loss (which I understand, and have experienced is difficult for audiologists to program hearing aids for)
Hello, I tried it and it works. However, the sounds are coming from my phone as if the airpods use it as the mic when use as hearing aid. So basically, i have to be holding my phone in front of me so it will capture the sound for me when talking to someone.
I have a slight hearing loss. I use Airpod Pro in a meeting BUT i usually ask permission why i need to use them. They might think i am using it to relay the contents of the meeting somewhere. Annoying but it helps.
In the workplace, any employee wearing AirPods is assumed to be listening to music streamed through an iPhone. That doesn’t bode well in a business meeting.
I have Rx HA but looking for alternative backup earbuds with noise canceling. This seems to be a good choice thanks. Just hope i don’t lose it with an active lifestyle.
@@HearingTracker Thank You! I tried with regular airpods and it has seconds of a delay that made me hear the "outside sound" plus the amplified one a bit later and when more than one person talks its a bulk of noise...
Thanks for the review very interesting given that it's only noisy environments that I have any issue with not sure it would work or not? Are you planning to do a similar review of the second-generation airpods pro?
What the hell? Why are you talking about ear infections? How do I work theses! I want to see the results of your tests. You’re more of a narcissist than Trump.!
I am trying this updated iPods and am getting a whistle noise intermittently in the right one only. Have not found a way to stop it and therefore these are not helpful to me.
Great review as usual for the excellent presenter as Mathew, it’s pleasure to listen to your most objective reviews, especially comparing OTC HA like AirPods Pro 2 with the new firmware and added Hearing loss assistance compared to much more expensive so called prescription HA. Thank you Mathew
Thanks for this very informative video. Actually, I purchased a pair of Airpods Pro 2 after I watched your video. After some learning and adjustments, I found the Airpods Pro 2 can function as decent hearing aids. Your video mentioned lots of some cons of using the Airpods as hearing aids, and they were spot on. I truly believe the Apple is up to something tangible in this area. By the way, have you tried ways to reduce the occlusion effects like echoes (most-annoying I might add) of own voices and other bodily sounds? Only way I could reduce the occlusion effect is to reduce the volume.
Oh my God! I’m listening to MJ’s Stranger in Moscow! And I had no idea there was rain at the start of the song! All these years I had no idea! I’m gonna cry! I can hear! ❤❤❤❤
I have two sets of pods, so that as one pair battery goes dead, I can swap to the next pair of pods. I have two cell phones, one for business and one for personal and The pods are synced to both and I can swap between phone, speaker, and pods easily. Two sets only cost 460 dollars and still well below what the cost was for phonak hearing aids quoted to me at $6000
@@HearingTracker they help me mostly for office hours I use them as headphones and they do amplify sounds but they don’t work well for outdoor hearing aids due to wind noise and just aren’t loud enough for conversation
would be awesome if they could be set up for bicros... I have SSD and am on the fence about paying for a high dollar bicros solution or just continuing to not hear from my right side and get an aid for my left ear...
Thank you for your channel, and review, of such an important topic. I wear unitron hearing aids, but feel my hearing could be better, just looking for non-prescription aids.
Hey Tviy, hopefully you’ll get enough rounded info from all of the tech that we review on here! Good luck with your search. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Does transparency mode go to the idle stage? I have 2 pairs of AirPods pro and I notice if there is silence and low noise, my Airpods go idle, and when people start talking it takes 1-2 seconds that it would go to transparency mode 100%. In other words, a noise outside activates the transparency mode in full. So I miss the start, a few words from a speaking person. Is there a solution?
@@HearingTracker Since last week, all my AirpodsPro are functioning 100%. Have no idea what happened. But sometimes I hear ding dong when I am about 20 feet away.
No mention is made about your voice echoes/feedbacks when you speak after setting up the iPods. It is a real deal breaker. Let me know if there is a fix and I will buy the pods. I used a borrowed pair to try it out. The incoming sound is much better than my very expensive Phonaks. But the feedback/echo of my own voice is very annoying and makes the pods are unusable.
When you do the test, it's not about when you hear it, it's about the softest you hear it. If you have them too loud in certain frequency then you will get these issues. Also, it's all about the seal/venting of that seal
I can set up my AirPods to connect with other devices via Bluetooth. For instance, I'm able to pair them with a Windows laptop. Additionally, once the audiometric configuration is saved on the AirPods Pro, I can seamlessly use them with a TV or a Windows notebook. I've found that I can only configure my AirPods using an iPhone.
Just wish to offer some user feedback for anyone who, like me, has a typical age-related high frequency hearing loss at the worse end of moderate. With great anticipation I purchased airpods pro second generation along with an iphone a few days ago (still much cheaper than hearing aids!) and have been testing out the hearing aid capabilities for a few days now. To put it simply, the airpods pro do not offer anywhere near enough amplification for my level of hearing loss unfortunately, even when set to maximum. Still, it is wonderful technology and I will certainly monitor future advances. For anyone with a mild hearing loss however, I believe they might be quite helpful. Battery life is of course another major problem and this needs to be significantly improved. For the time being, I have reverted to using my Etymotic analogue hearing amplifiers which offer slightly more amplification and have batteries that last about a week.
I have eustation tube issues and twice in my life I’ve lost my hearing once scuba diving most recently double ear infection. The ear infection I las all heating. I I could hear was cicadas in my head. My question is could this have worked to help me hear during my double ear infection?
Great video, if I'm not mistaken, in the hearing settings on Iphone we read that all this is possible even with Beats earphones! How would you rate them? Better Airpods pro or Beats?
Thank you. I've had an audiogram and have tried hearing aids by Phonak ($5,000), Jabra, and the brand new Sony OTD devices, and have not been happy with any of the results. With my 'moderate' hearing loss, particularly in the midrange frequencies, my greatest challenge is being in a social or business event environment and being able to converse. The second challenge is talking on the phone has become increasingly difficult. My hope is that streaming phone conversations directly into my ear will alleviate this concern.. this did work well with the Phonak devices but extremely poorly with the Sony OTC. My Airpod PRO 2's are arriving today, and I look forward to reporting back after trying them out!
@@Yolduranduran Thanks for checking in! They've yet to be tested in a work event / conference environment but so far so good! The audiogram test was virtually identical to that which was provided in a professional setting as well, validating the results for sure. The battery life restrictions will stop me from having them in all day but it's not the end of the world. I was thinking that if that becomes an issue I'll get a second pair and just swap out during the day
@@dharmendrasharma9533 So far so good, but they really have to be 'put to the test' in a business meeting environment, especially when I'm at a round-table discussion with background noise. That will be the real determinant factor. I'll report back as soon as I encounter that over the next few weeks
Hi, good video so thanks for that. Am I right in thinking that Live Listen does not use the ear pods microphone but the one on the device. If that is the case do you know why not?
Hey Geoff, that’s right. It’s so that it can be placed at a distance and send the sound directly to the AirPods as a remote mic. If the feature is off then the AirPods mics do what you’re after. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Got AP-2 when they came out. If I’m “in a conversation” I point to them and let people know they’re working as hearing aids. I’ve done this so many times, I don’t even think about it. If someone looks at me funny, that’s their issue, not mine. If I’m shopping in a loud store or don’t want to hear the screaming baby in a flight, I put them in ANC mode. If I can still hear what I’m trying to avoid, they are really, really loud and someone else is likely to complain soon. Seems like everyone is looking at their phones these days we barely notice others anyway.
Hey Hashim 1. Open up the AirPods case. 2. Go to the Bluetooth settings on your Android device. 3. On the AirPods case, hold the pairing button at the back. 4. Look for AirPods in the list of Bluetooth accessories and then tap the "Pair" button. Thanks for watching, Matthew
About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with meniere's disease and have almost lost the hearing in my right ear, and was given the (BTE) style hearing aids by my local NHS hearing centre, but after a year of trying to get used to them, I ended up giving them back because I found them to be more of a hinderance than a help because I had to turn them up so loud that they would be whistling, I also found they would pick up so much background noise that I couldn't hear what people were saying to me, especially in crowded areas ie supermarkets etc, and I had to take them out to answer the phone, because they were so basic with no telephone switch or bluetooth, so couldn't be used with my iPhone either, I've got a pair of AirPods Pro but they have a nasty habit of falling out of my ears, so it looks like I'm going to have to spend a fortune on the ones that go deep inside your ear canal, sadly.
I have Oticon Real 1s, as you know they are pricy and work well, but they wont connect direct with my laptop or TV Bluetooth without a "clip" or other add on, which is inconvenient. So time to time I was thinking this would be great as I can pop them on say when watching TV for 30 in instead of going to put on my traditional hearing aids. I have issues with the earpod pros stopping acting like a hearing aid, time to time, like when I lock my phone so its inconsistent.
I was able to set AirPods Pro 2 to use as hearing aids. They worked well for about three hours. After this they would only work one at a time. Each one would work if they were the only one in, but then stop working when both were put in. I followed all the instructions from Apple Support online although they pointed out three times in a short period that they are not sold for hearing aids. They were uninterested in helping me once I told them I wanted to use them as back up hearing aids. Very disappointing.
@@HearingTracker I used the website and spoke with Apple Support. They did not recommend a firmware update. They worked fine, but then only one at a time. Apple was not at all helpful when they found out I wanted to use the hearing aid feature.
Hello I'm from Philippines i have Hearing difficulty and my Audiometry is profound do you think Airpods Pro can help me hear clearly? . I am happy to buy one if it is so.
Is AirPods Pro only work with the sound from the phone, like music or phone call? Is it ok for the sound not from the phone? If I am wearing the AirPods Pro and talking to someone else, will it work? Hope someone cal answer my question. Also, I am the one who have single ear hearing lose, is anyone know will the AirPods Pro work as a hearing aid with only 1 side wearing?
Thanks very much for this excellent video….. I am in UK ….. have quite severe bilateral nerve hearing loss and sensitive ear canals….. have an I phone and wil give Air Pods a go….. However, what I would really like is a set of full over the head headphones with a receiver embedded in middle ( above head ) that I could direct towards sound ….is there such a device?….. think would be a big market
Hey Colin, I’m really pleased that you found this video helpful! It’s worth a try, however if your hearing loss is severe I don’t think that AirPods would be powerful enough. Regarding the receiver being in the centre; the benefit of binaural hearings is to help with localisation and hearing in background noise. With a single central receiver you wouldn’t gain that benefit. Hope that helps, Matthew
Thanks for your reply…… I discussed with Apple and their advice was that the new AirPods Pro would be best as more immersive …. ie blocks out background noise ….. and latest version has much longer battery life…I fancy a set anyway so will see what they are like and report back later
Thanks so much! Just a question (a silly one, maybe) is there any chance to combine airpods pro as hearing aids with Android technology? (probably I´m having to change also my phone...)
Hey Celina, yes :) 1.
My take on ‘OTA, Self-fitting hearing aids’ is that the world (consumers and suppliers) is not waiting for the US FDA’s blessing. The race was on to incorporate Self-fitting, hearing-aid functionality into earbuds (a.k.a. airpods earphones headphones, airbuds, etc.). Self-fitting, hearing-aids are here now in the form of Apple Air Pods Pro, etc. Self-fitting hearing aids now are essentially another set of apps installed on your earbuds. Don’t expect these apps to be called hearing-aids.
May I ask how you record your iPhone screen when talking through the steps? We record tech tips for individuals with disabilities in the state of Indiana and when we record the screen, it is very challenging to get a clear image that does not flicker. Your video looks fantastic. Thanks!
interesting to know but as I hate those silicone pads (for this sticky finger feeling) - does it work with airpods 1 or 3 likewise or is there a similar Android app for Samsung Galaxy Buds Live (to avoid these white tubes hanging out of your ear)?
Thank you very much for your very thorough review and links. Yes, I most definitely will buy these instead of hearing aids but I am waiting for the updated AirPods Pro 2, hopefully later this year. I have mild-moderate hearing loss but in addition I also have essential tremor (ET). My iPhone and iPad for me are essential and invaluable tools for assisting with managing ET. For six months in late 2021 I persevered with the top of the range Starkey RIC hearing aids, and while sound quality was adequate they could not easily switch between my devices using Bluetooth so they were returned for a refund. Apple can manage bluetooth seamlessly. I would happily buy two pairs of AirPods for a much lesser price than hearing aids to manage the battery life issue. My only concern is the occlusion effect and whether I will be able to wear the AirPods all day with reasonable comfort. I am very keen to hear your review when the new updates are released.
I have mild hearing loss that I think the Pro will address, at least for a while, but I also have ET. It hadn't occurred to me that the ET would interfere with my handling traditional tiny hearing aids, but of course it would! Another thing I like about the airpods is that they have the Apple "find my ___" so we're not likely to lose them!!
Can Android users use the Apple Airpods Pro? Or if not, set them up on an iPhone and then use on Android? Is the profile stored on the phone are in the pods?
@@HearingTracker I did some research on affordable in-ears with hearing aid correction but not much came out. Ideally I would some that are not too ugly (Airpods Pro are fine) and complete store the profile on the headsets - so I don't need a phone. Usage would be in daily conversation and BT movies over the in-ears. In case you have hot tipp - I am all ears (so to speak)
I want something to wear while watching films etc on my iPad. I wear bte nhs hearing aids and are trying to find something to help. Could I use my hearing aids while not on the iPad and programme the pods to use just when listening on iPad. It’s hard to find headphones that won’t give feedback while wearing the aids.
I appreciate your video very much. I currently use Apple AirPods Pro in typical restaurant settings. They do very well to keep me in the conversation (Conversation Boost is great). However, having watched your review of the Jabra Enhanced Plus earbuds, how would you compare them in reference to the conversation boost of Apple and the Jabra Enhance Plus? Are they similar? Finally, having two pair of Apple AirPods can extend your day’s use if need be and the cost of a second pair is not a deal breaker for me.
What about latency? I have tried this with my airpod 3s and the delay of the amplification of the source and the ambient sound of the source was so noticeable that they were unusable.

Hi. Unfortunately this wasn't helpful in setting up the hearing aid functionality with airpods. The instructions were not very clear (I'm in my mid thirties and a career professional) and quite confusing especially for someone who doesn't already have this functionality set up on their phones.
I have linked my Mimi audiogram test to my apple health. When I go into custom audio set up my audiogram from Mimi is not showing up. It is only showing me the option to upload a photo or file of an audiogram.
Thanks very much, I did not know what is all possible with the AirPods Pro it was very interesting next month I go to the hospital and get an audiogram 👍
Incredibly informative and helpful thank you. This has set me up perfectly to experiment with different options which I was very reticent to do. Absolutely agree with your summary at the end.
I understand the reluctance to tell people you're wearing the AirPods as hearing aids. It reminds me a lot of my situation. I am legally blind and, for a long time, did not want anybody to know because I thought people would treat me differently. Actually, once I got a white cane and took it everywhere, they did treat me differently, but in a much different way than I had expected. Just about everybody I encounter, even perfect strangers, is very supportive. I suspect thje same thing would be true if I told people I was wearing AirPods as hearing aids. People can be understanding if you give them the chance. :-) We shall see how this theory plays out. I am seriously considering getting a pair of AirPods Pro 2s and testing out the theory. I will let you know if I do.

Hey @sdcoffeeroaster, thanks for sharing your experiences. Perhaps this might be the video for you.... ruclips.net/video/5h_v9JBRvEw/видео.html
Matthew
Now that the second generation of airpods is out, will you make a video about the possible improvements for use as hearing aids?
Hey Riccardo, yes we’re working on it. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Hey Pixgirl, the process will work yes but you wont have access to all of the features. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Hey Emil, thanks for sharing your experiences. Matthew
In the workplace, any employee wearing AirPods is assumed to be listening to music streamed through an iPhone. That doesn’t bode well in a business meeting.
Ready to update this video? 😁. EXCELLENT video as usual Matthew ❤
So ready!! Watch this space… thank you it means a lot 😊😊😊 Matthew
I have Rx HA but looking for alternative backup earbuds with noise canceling. This seems to be a good choice thanks. Just hope i don’t lose it with an active lifestyle.
Do you recommend any aditional APP to use Airpods Pro as hearing aids combined with Android technology? Thanks for your videos!
Hey Celina, I'll do some research on this for you. Leave it with me. Have a great day and thanks for watching, Matthew
Where is the video that teaches you how to actually use them this way.....
Two sets only cost 460 dollars and still well below what the cost was for phonak hearing aids quoted to me at $6000
Hey Tracy, thanks for the feedback. How do they work as hearing aids? Thanks for watching, Matthew
@@HearingTracker they help me mostly for office hours
I use them as headphones and they do amplify sounds but they don’t work well for outdoor hearing aids due to wind noise and just aren’t loud enough for conversation
Would like an update on the new Airpods Pro (when it comes out) paired with the Head Shadow app or similar apps for single sided deafness
Hey Mitch, watching this space. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Matthew
would be awesome if they could be set up for bicros... I have SSD and am on the fence about paying for a high dollar bicros solution or just continuing to not hear from my right side and get an aid for my left ear...
Hey John, try a bicros. You won’t go back! Thanks for watching, Matthew
@@HearingTracker can I configure Airpods Pro 2 that every sound from left and right earphone will be transfered to one ear? Regards :)
Love this video . Thank You !
I’m delighted to hear this! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Hey Video, not as far as I am aware and I can't find anything whilst researching. Thanks for watching, Matthew
@@HearingTracker Since last week, all my AirpodsPro are functioning 100%. Have no idea what happened. But sometimes I hear ding dong when I am about 20 feet away.
I have hearing loss in one ear only... can I use just one Airpod (to boost hearing in that ear)?
No mention is made about your voice echoes/feedbacks
when you speak after setting up the iPods.
FYI can do an update for IOS 16.2 please as locations have changed in audio/visual
Hey Robert, thanks for this update I hadn't realised it had changed since making this video. Will do. Matthew
Really bad that they don't stipulate that this feature is NOT available in CANADA
This method works globally (it’s been possible for 18 months). The new 2024 process isn’t available in Canada
Hi Matthew
How do the AirPods work as hearing aids.
Hi Kathanzia, thanks for the note. Have you tried the instructions in the video? Matthew
Anything this good for those of us on Android?
Ps Excellent website
Hey Jeanyves651, I’ll do some research. Leave it with me. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Curious can you use AirPods Pro for say bartending in a noisy overly loud music environment better to hear customer ordering drinks?
Hey Clint, technically yes. Let me know how you get on. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Great video, if I'm not mistaken, in the hearing settings on Iphone we read that all this is possible even with Beats earphones!
How would you rate them? Better Airpods pro or Beats?
Hey Riccardo, you're right it is. I would go with Apple personally for them simply working more seamlessly with IOS. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Any input yet?
@@Yolduranduran Thanks for checking in! They've yet to be tested in a work event / conference environment but so far so good! The audiogram test was virtually identical to that which was provided in a professional setting as well, validating the results for sure. The battery life restrictions will stop me from having them in all day but it's not the end of the world. I was thinking that if that becomes an issue I'll get a second pair and just swap out during the day
Kindly share your verdict
@@dharmendrasharma9533 So far so good, but they really have to be 'put to the test' in a business meeting environment, especially when I'm at a round-table discussion with background noise. That will be the real determinant factor. I'll report back as soon as I encounter that over the next few weeks
Hey Robert! You’ve teased us with this comment. Haha. What’s the verdict, how have you been getting along? Looking forward to your feedback, Matthew
Thanks very much for replying
Got AP-2 when they came out. If I’m “in a conversation” I point to them and let people know they’re working as hearing aids. I’ve done this so many times, I don’t even think about it. If someone looks at me funny, that’s their issue, not mine.
If I’m shopping in a loud store or don’t want to hear the screaming baby in a flight, I put them in ANC mode. If I can still hear what I’m trying to avoid, they are really, really loud and someone else is likely to complain soon.
Seems like everyone is looking at their phones these days we barely notice others anyway.
Does it works same as in android?which feature is missing in android pls in details?
Hey Hashim
1. Open up the AirPods case.
2. Go to the Bluetooth settings on your Android device.
3. On the AirPods case, hold the pairing button at the back.
4. Look for AirPods in the list of Bluetooth accessories and then tap the "Pair" button.

Are there any for android? I have ringing ears 24/7 it’s driving me crazy. Thank you
Hey Mount Vernon, there are ways of adjusting headphones to compensate for hearing loss yes.
Ultra Strong Magnetic Airpod Pro Strap Anti-Lost Cord Sports Lanyard Compatible with Airpods 3rd 2nd Generation Pro
I have issues with the earpod pros stopping acting like a hearing aid, time to time, like when I lock my phone so its inconsistent.
the software available in the uk?
I was able to set AirPods Pro 2 to use as hearing aids. They worked well for about three hours. After this they would only work one at a time. Each one would work if they were the only one in, but then stop working when both were put in. I followed all the instructions from Apple Support online although they pointed out three times in a short period that they are not sold for hearing aids. They were uninterested in helping me once I told them I wanted to use them as back up hearing aids. Very disappointing.
Hi Scott, is there a firmware update for them? Thanks for sharing! Matthew
@@HearingTracker I used the website and spoke with Apple Support. They did not recommend a firmware update. They worked fine, but then only one at a time. Apple was not at all helpful when they found out I wanted to use the hearing aid feature.
This is very helpful. Thank you.

So nice of you! Matthew
Hello I'm from Philippines i have Hearing difficulty and my Audiometry is profound do you think Airpods Pro can help me hear clearly? . I am happy to buy one if it is so.
Hey Bulakebyo, sadly they’re not designed for a profound loss so you’ll need a conventional digital hearing aid. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Wowww Matthew, thank you so much for this information. Hopefully this will help lots of people!!
Hey Carla, I Hope so too !
Hey Niko, yes it works with the environmental sounds too. Yes they’ll also work with 1 ear. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Excellent explanation
Thank you! 😊 Matthew
The same device that caused you hearing loss! now is helping you to hear!
Thanks so much!
Just a question (a silly one, maybe) is there any chance to combine airpods pro as hearing aids with Android technology? (probably I´m having to change also my phone...)

@@HearingTracker Do I need any APP to use them as hearing aids?

I loved your RUclips on "How to Set Up your Apple Airpods Pro as Hearing Aids". Question: When will AirPods Pro qualify as FDA, OTC Hearing Aids?
Depends on whether the FDA requires OTC hearing aids to pass 510k and whether Apple applies...
@@HearingTracker . Thanks. What is 510k? Has the FDA approved any OTC hearing aids yet? If so, which ones? If not, what is the delay? Thanks again.
How does the Airpod Pro 2 release affect your recommendation?
May I ask how you record your iPhone screen when talking through the steps? We record tech tips for individuals with disabilities in the state of Indiana and when we record the screen, it is very challenging to get a clear image that does not flicker. Your video looks fantastic. Thanks!
Hey INDATA project, try this walkthrough from Apple: support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/iphone/iphc872c0115/ios
interesting to know but as I hate those silicone pads (for this sticky finger feeling) - does it work with airpods 1 or 3 likewise or is there a similar Android app for Samsung Galaxy Buds Live (to avoid these white tubes hanging out of your ear)?
Has Conversation Boost changed to Add Voice Isolation? Or is this something else?
Does this work on Airpods Pro 2?
Hey Peter, these are all great points. Thanks for watching and let us know how you get along, Matthew
Hey C00ltronixm I have read that this is possible, however never tried it. Thanks for watching, Matthew
@@HearingTracker I did some research on affordable in-ears with hearing aid correction but not much came out. Ideally I would some that are not too ugly (Airpods Pro are fine) and complete store the profile on the headsets - so I don't need a phone.
Hey Margaret, it all depends on your level of hearing. Try them out and see if they help. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Hey Paul, I would get a set on trial and give them a go. If not you can return them to Beltone! Thanks for watching, Matthew
I can use as hearing aids in drawing room or open area withouh mobile
What about latency? I have tried this with my airpod 3s and the delay of the amplification of the source and the ambient sound of the source was so noticeable that they were unusable.

Hey Chalky White! What a fab comment to read. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, Matthew
