    Thank you for this video ! I’m going into my final year of college so I definitely appreciate seeing this as a resource. Also, I recognize the good cookie. My first grade class that I student teach / observe also loves the good egg !

    This is excellent advice! Great tool for new teachers and an excellent way to prepare yourself. Thank you for your time in preparing these helpful videos. I’m at the other end of the spectrum. I’m 64 and will retire in a few years. I discovered your videos and have tried to implement many of your teaching tips and activities into my classroom.

    Great advice! I began my teaching career in 2007. And not once has anyone wanted to see a big portfolio. I actually made a small portfolio like that one back then and it has been a success in almost every interview. I have never sat in on an interview where they wanted my binder I had worked so hard to make in grad school.

    17:15 Sometimes subbing doesn't give you an accurate picture of what it would be like to teach at a school. I was a sub. This past summer, I completed my first year as a full-time teacher. If I first came to my school as a substitute, I would probably not want to work there full-time because they don't support their substitutes well.

    Ha ha! My young daughter helped me set up my first kindergarten classroom. I was so excited and bought a ton of posters and things. I worked so hard on the room, and she stood back and said, "Mom, it looks like kindergarten blew up in here." 😂. Lesson learned. Now, I try to be more choosey about what I put up in the room.

    This is so insanely helpful! I've lately been focusing on looking for a high school choral director position, but my own elementary school has an open music position and something is calling me to it, despite my resistance. I haven't been able to sit down and change my interview style from secondary to elementary and I was freaking. out. Thank you!

    I’ll be retiring next year and have been a part of our interview team for years, but I’m still fascinated with the whole process and would like to recreate my portfolio and interview in my retirement. I know that sounds weird, but I learned so much since offered my first job 37 years ago.

    What software did you use to create your cover page and profile picture for your teacher portfolio? Hope that doesn't sound like a ridiculous question.

      Not ridiculous! I made it in Canva -it's really simple to use!

      @@SusanJonesTeaching Are you going to make any videos on guided reading? I'm just a little confused on how to differentiate my guided reading groups other than the level of books they are on. Each group as a different book based on their instructional reading levels.

    How did you handle a conflict with a colleague?

    • @SusanJonesTeaching
      @SusanJonesTeaching  Год назад +2

      So I truly cannot remember a time I have had a conflict with a colleague, but I like to be very straightforward and approach any problem head-on. I would want to listen to them and be open to hearing their perspective and willing to come to a solution together!
