    Michelle, I can't thank you enough for this video. I got a call late Tuesday afternoon for an interview on Thursday (yesterday). I went nuts trying to find tips online and stumbled to this video. I got a job offer this afternoon!!! I wholeheartedly it was because of the tips in this video!!! Between this and the recorded phone interview, I think you gave me the confidence booster i needed. You'll forever be part of this experience and I can't thank you enough!!

    this makes me feel like i was so slack when it came to my interviews! my first interview i did have questions prepared, and surprisingly answered all of the questions well. I was offered the job on the spot, but told them i had to think about it because i really wanted to teach at the school i interned at. luckily, a spot finally opened up and i had the most relaxed, quick interview ever because they were just doing it for protocol. north carolina is definitely a lot different than northern schools though!

    I had an interview at a daycare this week and while I was speaking I could tell the director was not really paying attention to me. She kept on looking at her shoes and seemed bored. After the interview she walked me around the rooms. She put the tablet of paper under her arm and I was able to see what she wrote about me. It said "not qualified for preschool" before the interview I felt it in my heart that it wasn't for me, but I still went to the interview because the lady who arranged it is very respectful and helpful. This was an amazing video. I know I'm not alone, but I get MAJOR interview anxiety! My first interview did not go as well as I hoped (but also not as bad as I thought it went) but when I didn't get the job, I was hard on myself. It's kind of nice to hear others talk about the many interviews they go on and to know you're not alone!

    Have you not had to actually teach a lesson for an interview? Many school districts in PA require you to actually teach a lesson to the interview panel. It is very nerve racking! They act like students too!

      It truly depends on how wide you are searching, what area and age you are looking/willing to teach, and whether you are sending out applications to every job that you are qualified for or are being choosey. As a music teacher I sent out well over 100 applications over last summer and only had a handful of interviews. I found that AppliTrack made the "get an interview" process a lot harder than sending in paper applications. If you are like me and looking for a FIRST job, just stick with it. Have many more people review your resume and cover letter than you are actually comfortable with- that was hard for me. Like this vlogger mentioned, you will end up where you are meant to be. If you didn't give up going through 4/5 years of college and an internship, then why give up now? :)

    • @PocketfulofPrimary
      @PocketfulofPrimary  7 лет назад +3

      I definitely think that is becoming the trend... however, I think it depends on the administration you are interviewing with. If the administration is older, they will most likely prefer a physical portfolio in a binder. In our society, there is such a rush to make everything digital but I think there are some things that just aren't meant to be.

    • @GlitzxxGlam
      @GlitzxxGlam 7 лет назад

      +Pocketful of Primary thank you!! I would prefer a binder as I am a hands-on learner so I will keep the original way. Would it be crazy to make a lot of copies so I could leave my portfolio with them?

    Would you have started practicing sooner for interviews? I'm a junior about to finish my program and honestly half the stuff they teach me is not the same as when you step into classrooms and interview.

    • @britniw5427
      @britniw5427 7 лет назад +2

      Kyara Gonzalez I completely agree I'm a Junior too; while I have to complete 120 hours of practicum prior to my student teaching (I've done like 60 so far) I feel that the content we learn is not the same as actually being in the classroom and getting the true experience you gain through your internship.

    • @kiki1229
      @kiki1229 7 лет назад +1

      Hey Britni! I similarly have to complete 100+ hours of practicum before student teaching, but many times the teachers I observe really use me as someone to make copies, clean up, etc! Don't get me wrong it's great to help out, but I want to watch, talk AND learn, but sometimes teachers are not as willing to work with you when you're just doing practicum.

    • @britniw5427
      @britniw5427 7 лет назад

      Kyara Gonzalez wow I usually just sit and observe unless I have to teach a lesson that's required for my course. Sometimes I help students during independent work if the teacher is busy, but that's about it.

    • @kiki1229
      @kiki1229 7 лет назад +1

      I don't get to help students or teach a lesson! That's what I'm so upset about because once I get to student teaching I'm going to be a wreck

    • @britniw5427
      @britniw5427 7 лет назад

      Kyara Gonzalez oh wow. My program requires us to create and teach lessons and/or create and give assessments to students in most of the courses that require practicum hours. Maybe you could ask one of your mentor teachers in the future for some experience in teaching a lesson? Just be extremely candid and say while you have been observing in the classroom you haven't been able to teach and you would like to have some experience prior to student teaching. That may help!

    Does any have any tips on interviews for people who have switched their careers to education? I am getting certified after working in an office setting and have no up-to-date experience teaching. I don’t want to dwell on that during interviews so how can I make myself look good while distracting from the fact that I’ve never actually taught or been a student teacher/aide.
