Great for a gag gift or even for a travel fishing pole and reel. Don't expect to be casting across the lake but it's great for catching bait fish! If you're brave, you could even go after small bass.

Bluegill love SlimJims, they are loaded with flavor and stay on small hooks better than most other bait.
If you do plan on using this as a fishing pole, make sure to always keep your thumb on the fishing line when casting. This is a "bait caster" type of reel and they tangle pretty bad if you're not careful. To reel in, pinch the line between your fingers so the line goes on nice and snug.
people are missing the point of this , you can carry this with you anywhere and decide to go fishing on the spot , its not something that your gonna have if your planning a big fishing trip , you could be out in the sun have this in your bag and think oh its a nice day i'll stop off at the lake for a short fishing session , its portable and cool in my opinion
thats the reason i'm thinking of buying it. I would like to keep it in my backpack for a on the fly fishing session if I find a nice sport

It does look like a lot of fun for your money. Also, the tiny rod and reel seem like you'll get plenty of action, even with a small fish on the hook.
I've read the reviews on Amazon, and they are kind of mixed. Many complain about the reel not being durable or consistent in quality, but the rod is often praised for being surprisingly tough.

If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

In a survival situation I'm not using a rod and reel as a first choice. I'm using illegal fishing techniques. Dams, soap, funneling, netting.

Best used with braided line. Casting is then practical up to about 12lb breaking strain. The mullet here are about 3.5 to 4lb and these rods bend right in half rather than break.
I think it's a lovely little thing for any beginner who just wants to go to the local pond. But I was wondering if it can be used to catch fish I would actually eat. I don't like the catch-and-release thing, because why run the risk of putting a fish through that kind of pain twice? Sure it may never be caught again and died of natural causes eventually, but you never know. Me personally, I'd rather catch something I intend to eat.
I have had a couple (spinning). The rods are tough enough to pull in up to a five pound bass or catfish. Much tougher than they look. Before doing a review, you should actually test it. By test, I mean actually try to catch something big enough to break it.
Loved your review. I live by an estuary and wanted to introduce my nieces to fishing to get them thinking independently. Got some of these for £4.99 each and they really love them! I carry mine every day. I had been using a hand line, with worm, on a cotton reel for trout and mullet but with these I can use lures too. If that river bailiff gets to close (need a license to fish trout in UK) I could drop it in the water and just by another lol.
Anyone considering one of these, if you already know how to fish, these rod and reel combo's are amazing value! If you want to use a lure then stay away from the traditional fixed spool reel and go for the one in this video. The fixed spools can't reel in quickly enough to be useful for lure fishing (in my 'umble opinion)

If you take the crank handle off of the reel you can actually cast, you just have to put the handle back on when you retrieve.
12 bucks now... I just got two for 21.00. I'll be using this for my plumb bob cord.
Well worth 10 bucks. But I will use the second one to play with. hey, look nice and cool. Would be great for lizard collecting. noose rather than a hook.
There is the original Co. that came up with these and they are around 25 to 40 bucks. I'm sure better built for people wanting a James bond version. I just think they are great for using in other thangs.
get the zebco dock master if you want a small rod it's good if you put good line and reel on it

I used to use mono but switched to braid cause it last's more PLUS it's kinda more better But you do you man. Nice video might try this lil bugger. lol
I really want to get one just as a gag. Go fishing on the beach with 12+ foot rods and then pull this thing out and cast it out. Would be funny as hell.

I had one of those and I took it deep sea fishing and I caught a 10 inch lane snapper. It didn't break the screw on it popped out and a part came iff

If i went salt water fishing i wold use the a pen rod for catching bait (smaller fish) and use it to catch bigger ones

+Francisco Fialho Casting is a little sketchy because they are not independent. I can pull out about 6' of line with one hand and cast with the other, I would be afraid to do more.

Graeme Murphy yes you can, personally, I think that’s what’s great about this, very easy to set up, and I’ve lent it to a friend who is a lefty, he enjoyed it, he just wished the handle was a little bigger, but just make sure you have the line set up correctly for lefty or else the string pulls out from the bottom(which isn’t hard to do
either) btw he caught some small catfish, I’d say 5 maybe 6 lbs, or at least it fought him like it was 5-6 lbs haha. But it’s decent to just go fishing out of the blue if you hadn’t planned for it using this thing
