Fishing challenge idea: $40 (or $50) tournament challenge. You go to Cabela's or some other outdoor story and buy a rod, reel, line, and lures and place in a fishing tournament with the gear!
TheFatKidFromUp $30 dollar challenge from any local shop. I could do that easily.

I have caught dozens of speckled trout redfish and flounder , I only use 50$ rod and real total cost. Most people truly overdo it on spending. Fishing shouldn't be expensive.
They have a pen fishing rod with a spinning reel.

You should give it another try, but with the spinning reel version! Its waaaaay better than the casting one! ;)
Oh and don't be afraid, that thing can handle a lot! I've done a lift test with a 1kg (about 2.2lb) and it just didn't break!

I go fishing about 2 times a month, and I have tried EVERYTHING AND EVERYWHERE and have not caught a fish in over 7 years

To cast this rod, you have to turn the dial on the side of the reel and then cast it. The button stops the line from going out too far

See if you can get your hands on a Daiwa eliminator (model no. EL18UL) it is a 4’8” ultra light rod rated for 2-4 lb line. AMAZING ultralight rod for creek fishing

I have an emergency tackle box in my truck at all times with this rod and a replacement reel I bought at Value Village for 2$.
It's actually pretty alright for something that can fit in the pencil case I keep its lures in. It's really handy in situations where I wished I could get a few casts out but don't have my proper equipment.

Yesterday I had received the pen rod and reel (spincast) and I had tried and casting with the fishing line that had come with the reel was too heavy lb test to cast properly.....so this morning I had changed out the line from the pen reel to a 4lb test, I will say this...a lot smoother casting and no coiling up from the new line I had out on compared to the original line the reel had come with.

The button on the reel is your braking system, when you hook up you can press the button and stop it from pulling any more line off of your spool. Your welcome!

Fun video. Keep up the great work. Of course the pen rod and reel are a novelty. If you consider that you can actually use it to catch fish its a pretty good product. You also probably should have put braid on it. Less stretch in the line will give a better hook set. I've had the pen rod for about 2 years. Its not going to replace a 7' combo but for a throw in the bag incase there's a fishing spot on the way to gram grams house. Or in the glove box for pond fishing on your lunch break or stealth fishing the tanks at Bass Pro or Cabelas.
I have one of those pen rods and the only way to cast is hand casting. But still, the rod is really fun to mess around with

my 5yo kid loves this pen rod. reel is junk, but there is a combo with ok spinning reel, or you can attach any other reel with some tape because reel seat is smaller than stAndard.
Those little shakespeare micro rods are a great budget ultralight but they are made with some cheap materials and there really easy to break

Its a bait caster u have to feather the spool with ur thumb when u cast to keep track the line and brake once the bait hits the water

@FirstStateFishing you should do a budget fishing challenge at Big 5 storting goods.
I have one of these and there's 2 ways to cast it.
The first being, if you unscrew the handle off, you could cast it normally, but that's counter productive as you have to screw it back on every time.
The second way to cast it which is what I do, is to cast it like a fly rod. How?
Hold the line about 2-3 inches above the reel, make sure your lure or bait is about 2-3 feet down from the tip. Then pull out as much line from the reel and cast! As your lure or bait are flying out there, allow the line to glide through your free hand. To stop the reel, push the black button.
Works well and it's a lot of fun
Used to have a pen rod like that with a spinning reel when I was a kid, caught a lot of decent sized fish with it... the rod broke when i hooked a 10-15 pound trout (saw the fish, HUGE)

Trout definitely do eat crawfish. That’s my secret bait for when the Bite is slow. Hook them right behind the head so they’re still alive

You should get the spinning pen rod I have 3 of them and find them grate better to cast then the bate caster one like yours
The reel on your micro pole is a live bait caster. The more weight on it makes it cast easier and farther

This is how you use it. First of all, the black button is the hookset button. You hold it down to lock the spool when you set the hook. To cast it, you turn the silver knob on the other side until your terminal tackle drops at a decent speed (Without thumbing the spool) and doesn't overspin the spool and backlash. Thumb the spool tight, cast and let off pressure on the spool to let the weight of the tackle spin the spool.
Think of it like a modern baitcaster that's always in freespool mode.
