Something about the princess and the pea comes to mind. I took my 32' sailboat from the Oak Bay Marina in Victoria up to Wrangell, AK, in the summer of '70, as well as many shorter trips --- down to Pt. Townsend, Olympia, Poulsbo and several of the other places your vessel has seen fit to visit. I very much enjoy the scenery; it brings back many pleasant memories, but I have about as much in common with how you travel as someone in coach does with those who fly in a Gulfstream.
    Party on!

Unfortunately Lady Liselot has no stabilizers and I have a quote for after market stabs and it ‘ll cost me €75k. Before I have spend that amount on new glasses and anti-seasickness pills… and it gave me some nice 18 degrees angle-footage for my channel. But, but, I must confess, would love to have them since the dancing of the boat also gets you tired.

IN our homes and our RVs, cleaning our showers of soap scum was a DREADED job I did a few times a month. I hated it. (we always squeegee our doors after every shower) . About 10 years ago, we accidentally discovered that when we used Pantene Shampoo that we buy from Costco as our body soap and hair shampoo, there was almost no soap scum on our fiberglass showers. I don't know if it's any liquid soap or just Pantene Shampoo that works. I now clean our showers maybe twice a year. NO MORE BARS of SOAP ALLOWED!!! Try it, you'll like it! This comment is because you mentioned soap scum when you went into your bathroom.

There is no being cold on the water, you just are not dressed warm enough. Winter is something best embraced, it always wins fights. I would recommend rubber boots and a thick wool sock. I also use a shell that covers your butt. Mine is a Northface City Slicker.
Stabilizers work, your video shows their effect perfectly, the railing vs the horizon, no side to side roll. When you turn it off the roll is obvious though not alarming in that pond like sea state, boats do roll. I have done a number of trips in a friends OA 52 in BC waters with them. Only one drawback, we dragged anchor one dark October evening and ended up on a shoal and the port side stabilizer got stuck between two rocks. It locked us in position. We could not back out. There was a rock ahead. There was 17 ft of water under our transom. We were helped off the rock 45 minutes later by two brothers from Lasquiti Island. It took a sideways pull into the wind to pop us free. An adventure. Of course our anchor hooked just before touching bottom and we had to drop the chain. That lead us to having a 3 day visit with our rescuers waiting on weather to recover our chain. On the necessity of stabilizers, they are fine but remember in some sea states they won't work. If you really don't want a rough passage then don't head out into predicted snarly conditions. You can get used to the roll and you should explore that and try Sea Bands or better still Electronic Sea Bands. Even this old fart can get seasick and if you must make that rough passage to shelter you need a backup to your stabilizer either chemical, electronic or acupressure .

Not sure the gyro stabilizers work as advertised. When we were looking at boats to buy, I saw one advertised that had one which was said to be nonfunctional in the listing but the hydraulic ones were working. They do take up a lot of room and work best in the center of motion on the boat which is where the engine is on a single engine boat. On the other hand they work when the boat is not moving and Olaf reduce pitching up and down. No idea about the cost.

For me, the only really nasty thing you did in this video was get up before sunrise. Comox is my home port, I am in the smaller of the two marinas there. My boat is quite close to the tie up area for Harbour Air float planes. When leaving and arriving, you have to be conscious of aircraft landing and taking off on the water.

Stabalization…..don’t forget one of the biggest benefits, way less fuel sloshing in your tanks. Wheh that happens often times it stirs up the crud at the bottom leading to fuel filter clogging. Big problem in sailboats….especially when the engine quits when you need it most. Maybe with all that racor polishing you don’t see much in the way of fuel contamination?

Thanks so much. That was a great visual. They are worth the money I’m sure.
