Is it possible for a relay for your turn signals and hazards to fail on three of the lights but still work on one. my passenger front works but it's the only one on both signal and haz. lights. 2004 GMC Canyon. scratching my head on this one any help would be great. frustration has set in LOL
My starter was bad but the mechanic replaced a switch commutateur interrupter, now my passenger side turn signal hyperflashes on the front, I have no turn signal on the rear. You can feel it in the relay switch located in my fuse box next to my dash. My starter was replaced, but why did they install a commutateur interrupter switch? And, why does the relay switch that they installed cause the hyperflash? Now, they tell me that they can install another switch that will cause the relay switch to stop the hyperflash. Personally, I think it's BS, why keep adding more switches?
LOVE the thorough explanation for how it works!!! Common sense explanations and down to earth testing for amateurs without expensive toys. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT
thank you very much for making this video! I tried reading a write up explaining how relays work and I wasn't grasping everything very well. but now that I have seen this video it all makes a lot more sense to me, it may be just that it's one of those things that you have to see in motion to understand better.. thanks again! 😀
LOL. BEST DESCRIPTION, EVER!! Thank you. Also, I loved the "Honk Animation". I watched it five times. You made little animated sound waves, and the relay actuator closed! Brilliant!
Thank you for your video. That would have to be one of the best for a novice like myself. Now I can diagnose electrical faults with more confidence. Great job sir.
Best auto repair video ever. Stumbled upon this trying to figure out why my Ford Focus high beams aren’t working but I hear a click! ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️
I knew their had to be a way to test those. The Chevrolet dealership and stupid autozone said they can't test them! BS! Thank you! You saved me 50 bucks! My issue is my more expensive radiator fans..... but that 50 will go towards them. Thank you again.
A relay tester.....This is the first video I've seen to bring this tool up into the discussion! Also very good explanation of how a relay works. A helpful and informative video! 👍
Very well explained different methods of testing relays; really liked how you took the time to explain the workings too. Great for amateurs like me.Thanks!
Great vid my gmc sierra 2000 tries to turn on ... But it can't catch ... We changed the fuel pump ... What else could it be ? I'm guessing the relay? It's on old truck but still runs good when it runs
Hello I have a Mitsubishi Outlander 2017 and both headlights turned off the same time, fuses are fine my high beams, blinkers, Park lights all work I tried taking out the relay and I couldn't get it off I used a spanner and cracked the top, are some relays not supposed to come out, I'd appreciate your advice. You're channel is excellent and female friendly thank you
Thank You so much for this video. It helped me sort out something that had been driving me crazy. Did not realize that inserting it backwards will 'randomly' break stuff.
Thank you iam basing on vehicle electrical issues iam still learning in my school, can you please link me to where I can get your full technics in various parts of auto wiring.
Really good video. Both of my headlights went out. First thing I noticed was some corrosion on the battery clamps which I got rid of, and I made sure the fuses worked. I will be checking the relay after this. God I hope it's the relay, I do not want to deal with wiring harness. Also, do you think that a bad, maybe worn out battery clamp can cause the headlights to not turn on, even after car stars and all the other light work?
Great info!!! I have a failure started w my drivers side door locks. Finally took entire down to nothing. So now I shall go out to check fuses and relays before I call anyone. Tks!!!
What should I do if I have multiple relays that are good but still don't work it's on a 94 ranger if that helps I've tried everything and this was an awesome vid by the way👍👍
My '12 Camry battery light will come on when I start it but goes off after running/driving 15 minutes +/-. Also it only happens on first start of the day. And sometimes it doesn't even come on for up to four days straight. Thankfully it always starts and doesn't die. So far. I had it tested at Oreillys for battery and alternator and said both passed. Any advice on what could be my issue? Thanks in advance.
Where do you get the relay test box and the other part , are do they come together in a kit ? Are maybe the name of it I looked for a picture on y'all website but didn't see . Your video is great especially the way you explain and break it down . You definitely would make a great teacher in some High school or Technical school . Thank, you for sharing and teaching some tricks of the tread.
I'm getting a p1282 code on odometer read out. Do you think it could be due to me pulling the fuel relay out and using a jumper to do a fuel pressure test? I replaced my fuel pressure regulator and did a pressure test. All's good, no engine light or codes. How to reset?? ✌️
From the videos, I watched if you’re working on your ECM make sure your keys not in the ignition as it would start the car and you don’t want it to be and drive 7:00
Here's some advice for fixing this for free. Yeah they're cheap but you may get stranded and need to fix it. I had a ranger that sometimes wouldn't start. Everyone kept telling me it was a bad fuel pump. It worked fine on a cold start, but if I turned it off after it warmed up, and tried to start it back, the fuel pump wouldnt come on. I managed to find out that when the engine bay warmed up, the relay wasn't engaging. I did this by swapping the relay with something else and trying it. I then, being completely broke, cut open the top of my relay and saw one of the contacts near the coil of copper wire (electro magnet) was bent slightly away from the coil. I pushed it back straight, and taped up the relay housing good to keep dirt out of it, and bam. worked like a charm for the entire rest of the time I owned that truck and it cost me nothing. and if I'd listen to everyone else I'd have wasted time and money on replacing the fuel pump. The reason I didn't think it was the pump is because it was intermittent and only when the car had warmed up, and it never acted up while driving, only if I shut it off then tried to start it again. Long story but I'm telling it so people know a relay can be intermittent. If you're not sure what to do, mark it with a sharpie (so you know which one is the original) and swap it with another relay and see if the problem follows or not.
relay clicks but the probes that i powered and tested with clicking are parallel to it. meaning they are on the positive and negative side of the wiring on thr socket of my relay. which when tested from the switch lights up when supplied directly with a + line. is it safe to say that the relay i bought is already shorted or faulty??
Can I bring a separate wire as aground from the battery to the 85 spot because I think the ground is weak as Im changing the relay and the AC IS not working? Thanks
I have a 95 Chevy Tahoe 4_4 and something is making all my fuses under the hood ground,i have a test light hooked to the positive battery post and the test light to the main wire going to the fuse box, with the ground battery post on all the fuses inside the box show ground on both sides of fuses and even if i pull the relays still ground, would you think it may be in my fuse box it's self,ty
Good day sir, can i ask about the battery saver relay location of 2001 ford explorer sport trac? I watch some videos ang i did actually found the relays under the steering wheel but i don't know where exactly the battery saver relay. Because the battery always drained. Thank you
I have to test for a bad relay that controls an O2 sensor heater element (which gives me a “check engine” light) on a 2001 Toyota Echo. Where can I access one of those nifty relay testers? (The red one in the video that accepts several types and gives a green light if the relay is good or a red light if bad.) AutoZone? Do they rent them out?
Great informative video, we had a 2020 Ford Transit Cargo 250 with a cigarette lighter socket blow, owner manual did not have any information of fuse location in it fuse boxes, we took to 2 different Ford Dealer, none of them figured it out, call 3 out of state Ford dealer to get help with no result , call Ford direct, they did not have that fuse location either ( just amazing how a lousy it is) Ford said take to dealership, but we already did , they couldn't locate the fuse to replace. At this point, we are look around to find a solution, any troubleshooting techniques that you can think of to track to that blow fuse that control the cigarette lighter? Many thanks in advance 🙏

2004 Escalade I need serious help with quick. The vehicle cranks and runs great but I have a large parasitic draw. I Purchased a volt meter and It showed a 193 mA draw. 108 mA is coming from the 40A IGN A fuse. That is the actual ignition switch. I replaced the switch and it didn’t help at all. mA is the same. Any idea what else could be associated with this fuse and why I’m still getting that 108 mA draw? Also my EVAC/ECAS 10A fuse is pulling 85 mA. When I pull both it gets my parasitic draw to 25 mA which is normal. Your expertise would be very much appreciated! So frustrated!!!!
i did a check on my foglight relay and i have chamged my relay last year and foglights turned on again. now the fog lamps started to light up a little delayed. switch turns on . but foglights would not turn on as it should. then it already stop functioning. so i bought another relay but seems broken still. i tried putting a positive line on the socket switch on neg. black wire and it turn on with switch. but without the direct postive line coming from the batery the fog lights wouldnt turn on. i got a 4pin relay same as the specs required but still got blind. tried doin the relay itself to check powering it up with positive and it clicks.
I have 2 wiper relays on my 2000 mustang. both are good. but, the wipers don't work. fuses are good, replaced multifunction switch still nothing. bad gem module? power seats, windows, chimes, interior lights work
I touch the fuse box to test the wiring,...on one relay location, pin 85 the light tester turns on while the other relay same type, pin 85 is off. Which one is correct?
This works sometimes: bang on relay. I had a horn relay that would not work. So I disconnected battery. Tugged, poked, whacked and shook relay. Would not come out. Read it had to be replaced with whole relay tray, or cut out. Hooked up battery to call it a night and presto it worked. I guess it was just stuck with a little corrosion. If does it again I'll drill 3 tiny holes in the top and spray silicone spray into relay to possibly fix corrosion issue for long time.
