- I recently did a series on this abandoned John Deere RX95 ride on mower lawn tractor, also known as the "Alex Lifeson model". It was a 6 part series and very detailed. In this video, I wanted to edit it down to a manageable length for a single video, so here it is - the COMPLETE rescue of this late 1980s trashed John Deere I found on the curb on trash day! SUPER CUT EDIT!

Tks for putting it all on one video.
That 'ol John Deere is fortunate to have you as its rescuer. It was worth the rescue, but I am not sure if I would have saw this one through given the same oppprtunity. I admire your skill set, but even more so perseverance and tenacity Brad. Nothing but respect from here! A truly great rideing mower for under $400. Very impressive. Thanks for editing this down for us.

Nothing's gonna ever keep you down...
I've always enjoyed the Guitoloigist content but your fixologist content is very relaxing; and I learn stuff. Thanks!
Tips: When you have to hammer out a threaded shaft like you did on the spindle pulley, always leave the nut on but very loose. That way you won't booger up the threads on the shaft. I like to flush up the top of the nut with the end of the shaft if I can before banging on it.
You need to acquire an impact driver with a set of adapters for your sockets. It's better and faster than hammering on your ratchets and wrenches. Easier on the fasteners and tools too.
I bought several pneumatic tools the other day, one was an air hammer and one was an impact driver.
Hey Brad, Nice job in bringing that back to life! I could see the joy in your face during your first cut.
alex lifeson signature model... i just died.
A fantastic love story of a man and his machine. Great save!
Cool to see ya get it going. Really liked your plastic repair trick.
Very nice indeed, now it needs a turbo and some LED headlights!
Thanks for the video and thumbnail that made me shoot coffee out my nose!
This is a good piece of machinery. Great call on saving it; probably still has many years of service on her.
Hilarious thumbnail and title! You know, John Deere are the Gibson of mowers 😂
Excellent job Brad! We both learned heaps today! Thanks mate!
Thanks for watching
That is hilarious, love that tow setup.
I gave up trying to put my transaxle back in today. WIll try again tomorrow.
Excellent job.
@fixologist1
You got the bad boy of my mower (rx75) with the 12hp Kawasaki engine and a 50% bigger fuel tank!
You can also get the bolt hot then stick a candle to it
Hey boss... you need a small van or something. I got a Transit Connect for my biz, and holy smoke can it haul. It's little and runs cheap, but you can pack in the goodies. From Jukeboxes to PA rigs... Plus it's low to the ground, meaning less lifting to get stuff in and out. Those little work vans are boss.
I've been thinking the same thing. Or a cargo van with some removable seats.
@@Fixologist1 since the car market is haywire, find whatever the bargain is. I once bought a minivan and pulled out the seats... it got the job done but the Lil cargo van is lots better.
Could u please show a video on how to install the mower deck. I have a SRX75. Mower deck was off the tractor so i really am working on this blind folded. I appreciate it.
Signature models are irresistible 😅
So is it still running? Curious why you didnt change the fluid in the transaxle? Is it nor serviceable? One note you should have put silicone grease on the pins on the brake caliper. Oil wont last long.
Makes one wish John Deere would bring back the rear engine riders !
Great video my friend, i just got a free rx75 and the only issue is its surging on low idel running high shes fine its only on low idle any ideas?
Clean the carb and replace the fuel pump. Makes sure the fuel is good fuel and not old.
@Fixologist1 thanks my friend I did drain the old fuel and cleaned the carb, now she's running like a top. Come to find out there was no air filer so replaced that too. Very neat little mowers
You got the bolt loose, go buy a lottery ticket.
Use "never-sieze" on those brake pins and you will never have a problem again of them rusting and sticking. Also, just curious. Why didn't you put the 2 drive belts on before fully bolting the trans axil back up?? Need to know because there have been a couple of jobs i past up because i didn't have the knowledge to change out those belts. Even the John Deere techs at the local dealer hate to mess with these rear engine models.
@fixologist1
Great video Brad.. I just got me one almost just like this (rx75) a couple months back and while I've had a couple minor issues with it, it's a great mower for the $200 I paid for it! Hope you get plenty of use out of her, or sell it for an amount that makes it worth all the parts and time you've got in it. Cheers, and BTW, I know it's coming close cuz the fact that mine is just a few days after (i was born in 77' too) Happy Birthday!!
This is my second mowing season using it. The mowing deck belt has slipped off a few times and I've had to tighten down the guides and belt retainers, but other than that, we're still going good.
@@Fixologist1 those single blade riders like ours give the best looking cut too.. and no missed grass blades!
👍✌😎
Instead of using epoxy to glue the plastic back together, Id use some plastic weld instead like "Weld-On #4". Way easier than messing with epoxy imho
The fuel shut off solenoid is bad. It should be a little longer. When they go bad it stay in the shut off position. Looks like someone took a pair of bolt cutters to "fix" it! That`s why there is a manual shut off on it. A cheap fast fix.
The only slight critique l might make is that my ex A&P Mechanic mentality wouldn't allow me to put those new nuts and bolts in that orientation. It was drilled into our heads that the nut always goes on the underside. That way on the remote chance that the nut was to fall off, at least the bolt won't just drop out too. Unless you go inverted...
Nothing wrong with it.... What are the chances the nut will unthread anyway?
JINX!!
My only AP/IA critique is the WD-40 as penetrating oil. Gotta get PB Blaster or Mouse Milk!
Hey Brad, try hooking that battery you tried to charge to your car. That charger you have is one of those "SMART" chargers. Dumbest thing ever. It has to detect so much juice in it before it will even try to charge it up. Chances are, since it even had 4.5 volts still in it, your car may charge it up. It might work for you and save you from needing to buy one.
It's not a charger, it's a power supply. So it'll put out what I tell it to put out.
WD40 is not a penatrant. Try PB Blaster.
Dont you have to to push the clutch in to start this machine?
No.
We get 70 dollars for vehicle lead acid batteries at Canadian Tire
Quit using wd40 used pb blaster with capillary action oil to free up rusted bolts! Also heating up the bolts on that trans will make it easier to get out.
Why did Alex sign a John Deere mower?
I don’t get the lifeson reference.
Thumbnail. It's a vintage photo of Alex on this exact model mower.
@@Fixologist1 Oh awesome! Thanks.
@@Fixologist1you should send him a part of it for him to sign! I bet he'd appreciate the humor and sign it.
