I think they make different traction motor sound with the class 323 365 465 466 the jubilee line 1996ts and the electric desiro units as well like the class 360 350 444 and 450 and the 380 all make the different sound when braking to a stop and accelerating when pulling out
I think it's funny if you look back on this 21 years later. The 323's still work the line, but there's plenty of changes in other areas. Alvechurch station now has a passing loop, Proofhouse Junction has been remodelled, and Duddeston station has deteriorated into an appalling state.
Does Video125 have any plans to do any more DEV's in the West Midlands? Seems that this & Lickey Voyager are the only ones. I'd like to see the Rugby-Stafford line, as I used to live near that line at Lea Hall, or the Walsall line.
@@class87fan54 I'd love to see DEV of the Walsall Line as far as Rugeley and the North Warwickshire Line. Preferably with Kay Alexander narrating them!
i've only just recently been playing OpenBVE learning this route as best I can and I've just watched this video for the first time. So uncanny how accurately OpenBVE has this route, the sounds, the AWS, wow! Only goes as far as Birmingham New Street from Redditch though. It makes me feel that I've been learning this route for real and it's only a sim. Love trains and would love to drive them.
Our 'DMU TRACKS' production includes a few first generation DMUs still working on the Cross City line. Trying to maintain the electric timings was a great challenge for drivers.
I used the line from New St to Birmingham University in 1989 for a meeting and remember electrification being announced not long after. Also recall some teens jumping on at Five Ways and running past the ticket collector at New St without paying.
i live in redditch and redditch station is now changed its now got an more inside bit and got mini shelter on platform and theres more houses its bit better but there starting to knock down that old building and just for bonus Alverchurch now is a 2 platform station
These 323 units are great, I just love them. At present rumor has it that they are to be done away with on the Cross City and that they want to run 350's instead. This would be a great shame and the 350's are not suitable for the Cross City Line.
@@EthanAfro707 Didn't these plans get scrapped because when they tried to build the new depot, at the former Vauxhall engine shed/Aston signal box, they found they had miscalculated and there wasn't enough space?
From September 2013 to July 2015 I studied at Lichfield campus and the 323s played their part in getting me to and from college.
Love how the subtitles at 3.00m entering Lichfield City takes the sound of the wheels on the jointed track to say "yeah yeah"!
This is one of my favourite! It would be great to see more Birmingham Suburban line Driver's Eye Views with Kay Alexander narrating them!
It must have been a huge improvement having new elecrric trains after the elderly DMUs that I remember when using this line in 1989.
I love the Class 323!
I'm a fan of the traction motor sound. Any similarities with Jubilee 1996 stock/Class 365 perhaps?
London Underground 1973stock same sound is so amazing
me too mate ive been travelling on these units from 2001 to this year

Class 323s are very well designed.

True, as soon as we have filmed a DEV it is history. It is impossible to keep up to date. However, it is interesting to see how things change.

In OpenBVE you can drive this route! ;)

Also you noticed that some of the 323s are being refurbished to West Midlands railway
And nowadays about to be replaced by the brand new 730/0 units
The best video of this route is the one they did in 1990 just before the switch to electric. The diesel DMU's were the king.

Very interesting & informative.
Wait there needs to be an updated video to bromsgrove!!!!!!!
Can somebody please say who's doing the narration? It sounds like Kay Alexander from the BBC.
Yes, Kay narrated as she opened the renewed station at Redditch.
Its says at the start of the video, I didn't notice. Silly me.

in what way are the 350s not suitable for the Cross City Line...?
The 323s are to be replaced in the not so distant future by Class 730 Aventra's very soon

I always take this route from longbridge to new st whenever I go into Birmingham
just remind you that in 2 years time the class 323s will be replace by the new electric trains for the future
