      @Bryan This series was made to discuss bad movies. It ties into the rental style because of the memories of going to one and renting something that was horrible, which happened often. If you aren't interested in really bad films, then this series just isn't for you.

      Bryan I'm curious what you think the purpose of a negative comment is? You think they're gonna stop making these, becasue Mr Bryan said so? Regardless of the OVERWHELMING support it has received?

      Jamston Julian the two main reasons people hate Predator 2 are:Arnold isn’t in it,and it is in the city of LA and not the jungle.I love Arnold but I thought Danny Glover was great in P2.The city setting never bothered me.The Predators don’t just go to the jungle.They go all over the world to places of conflict to hunt.

    • @jamstonjulian6947
      @jamstonjulian6947 5 лет назад +13

      Nice strawman, but most people don't like it because Stephen Hopkins is no John McTiernan, and setting it in the city took most of the mystique and threat away from the antagonist. I'm sure there's plenty of good reasons to like it, but there's plenty of legitimate reasons not to as well. Maybe just be satisfied with your own opinion rather than putting down others'?

      PARKER Pittsburgh Lance Henriksen too.
      People argue Ripley killed Lance, but the Queen tore him apart and her spawn caused the shuttle crash, which caused further damage to what was left of him. Bishop chose his end thanks to those pesky Aliens.
      So Aliens ended him, a Terminator shot him, a Predator stabbed him.

    “If you don’t understand violence, technically you’re already desensitized.” That’s quite an insight actually.

    • @imnotdavidxnsx
      @imnotdavidxnsx 4 года назад +12

      I don't think so. To be desensitized is generally understood to mean the removal of sensitization. If you are too young to understand violence and have never understood violence, you can't be desensitized of it, because you were never sensitized, so there's no sensitization to remove. I mean think of a more extreme example. "If you don't understand rape, you're already desensitized to it" the apparent proposed argument being that you should therefore be allowed to watch movies promoting rape, as a young child. No.

    • @abrax.98
      @abrax.98 4 года назад +14

      @@imnotdavidxnsx I think you're being a little too literal. A child who has not seen or witnessed violence before would quickly realize what's going on if someone attacked them or their parent, we have an instinct for self preservation and this self defense. When violence has only been experienced vicariously through film, a child will not understand the stakes involved, or that violence in films is dramatized.

    • @medes5597
      @medes5597 6 лет назад +40

      Initially, but it later went on to refer to that specific Italian cinematic style crossed with a Western. Spaghetti westerns tend to concentrate on individuals who are morally ambiguous but ultimately the lesser of all the evils that surround them. They're usually motivated by selfish needs, and any of the usual western tropes (saving the town, defeating the bandits, etc).
      You're right though, that is where the term originated and most (though not all) are Italian directors. There are Spaghetti Westerns made by French and Swedish directors.

    Regarding Back to the Future and the statement “they made the fifties feel like the fifties”
    One of my clearest early memories was watching BTTF with my mom, who had been a teenager in the 50s (born 1940) and her saying to me, “ugh! The 50s were not like that!” In a way that told me she was actually insulted by the movie!

    • @bethm5852
      @bethm5852 5 лет назад +4

      Geahk Burchill Well and to be fair, it’s a sci-fi comedy series. How they said that it’s close to the real 50’s but not to the real old west, it shouldn’t have to be exactly like the old west or 50’s. I don’t really think it’s supposed to be super close to reality. (Not arguing with you or anything, just adding on)

    Arnold, Stallone, and Van Damme dominated the 80s. I know most parents took their kids to see R rated films at that time. Why? Disney had almost no good cartoon films released during that decade. Action hero films mostly had simple plots kids could follow. Parents didn't have to sacrifice the adult content. The action kept everyone entertained. Winning combo. You either had Amblin (ET, BTTF, Gremlins, etc), Indiana Jones, or whatever the action heroes were making.

      I'll go to bat for The Rescuers from that era of Disney (and The Rescuers Down Under), but you're right. Disney didn't get it's act together until the Disney renaissance, which in turn encouraged other studios. Even Don Bluth was in a lull during that period. The R-Rated movies totally filled that void. Even toy companies knew it, Robocop, Predator, Aliens and others all had kids toy lines.

    • @bloxyman22

      I had pretty relaxed parents even for the 90s, so I ended up renting horror movies as a kid. Did not make me a serial killer or screw me up in any way and I am happy I did not have to grow up in today's over protective society.

    • @BainesMkII
      @BainesMkII 6 лет назад +4

      Rather than Disney not having any good films, I felt it was more that most families didn't care horribly much. And even R-rated films ended up with kids toys and spin-off cartoons. PG-13 wasn't introduced until 1984. PG films at the time, even ones theoretically aimed at kids, could be violent, graphic, and with relatively mature themes. (PG could live up to its "Parental Guidance suggested") PG films could have scenes that arguably wouldn't even make it into a modern sanitized R movie. (I'm not saying all modern R movies are "tamer" than old PG films, but the ones aiming for wider appeal do get pretty sanitized.)

      Definitely underrated from a narrative and character standpoint. It is just technically awful because of budget and ILM were busy working on other projects. The scene when Kirk says pain makes us who we are is my favorite trek moment of all time.

    I love this series and I love that room, I used to work at a Blockbuster and I'm seriously considering adapting one of the rooms in my house to look like this.

    I had seen Godzilla 1985 by the time I was in kindergarten. It scared the hell out of me back then . Now it happens to be one of my favorite movies from the franchise.

    I saw the original Robocop with all it's violence intact (that wasn't on home video at the time) on a VHS bootleg when I was like 7. It was the most awesome thing ever. I got my family to rent Robocop 3 when I was like 14 and it was the most disappointing thing ever.

      That movie was funny, but the fact that is directly responsible for hipsters makes it horrible

    Love cable guy. Any movie even if it is kinda shitty that is dark & funny I love. Neighbors (Belushi & Aykroyd), Burbs with Tom Hanks, etc I find FUN to revisit every couple years.

    I just realized (im slow at the uptake, sometimes), if Marty would have hit that Rolls Royce, it would have actually been the Rolls Royce driver's fault. I think in the movie, they always refered to it as Marty hitting the Rolls, not that the Rolls completely didn't stop at an obvious stop sign (t-junction).

      I have to agree. From my experience, mom and pop shops were the best. However, out of the major chains near me in Cleveland, Hollywood always seemed to have a wider more obscure selection. Especially horror and science fiction.
