I'm happy now that stimming is becoming more accepted as something that's helpful if it's safe and more people are learning about it. After I learned about it I stopped feeling bad when I clapped excitedly in response to when my happiness was so high I felt in my chest or rocked back and forth covering my ears after something stressful and I was alone to do it. I got chewelry bc I used to bite myself when I became so anxious and overwhelmed in public and biting my thumb could kinda be hidden. In summary anyone can stim and it's very helpful to certain people typically neurodivergent people such as myself.

I also do the clapping. The only way I know how to describe it is “I just can’t control my excitement inside”
It is hard to explain but it helps me get calmer I think.

I had to look this up yesterday, because I'm 20 now and I deserve to know some answers as to why I'm always stimming or look up what's it called when you brain rot and do repetitive movements at the same time. The only ways I avoid stimming is with meditation and sleep, it doesn't cure but it helps me calm down and stop stimming every once in awhile. I'm glad stimming is being talked about because that disorder is never spoken about.

I have anxiety and deal with sensory overload a lot. I stim without knowing. It's normally quietly like removing my phone case, rocking back and forth, fiddle with my hands. I have this thing straw cushion I chew on. Even when I was a kid my family would talk about how I'd rock back and forth to calm myself down.
Glad I finally know the name of this and I'm not alone.

I tend to do various stimming.
    When I'm at school :
    - bouncing my legs
    - pushing the pen button
    - kicking my hand in the chair
    - run my hands through my hair repeatedly or districating my hair
    When I'm really anxious :
    - if I'm sitting and I'm feeling dizzy rocking back and forth in my chair
    - bouncing my legs
    - standing up and go back and forth
    - rubbing my skin, especially on my chest
    - slam my hands on my chest repeatedly
When I'm alone and I'm happy thinking about something or I'm creating scenarios in my head :
    - flapping my hands or rotating them
    - jumping
    - hop
    - scrunching my nose
    - singing the same part of the song
    - taking one corner of my phone's cover on and off
    - running/walking back and forth
When I'm disgusted about something I felt in my hand or scared :
    - flapping my hands while tapping my finger on one hand
But I discovered only now they can be called like that in english

I have Adhd and severe anxiety and am visually impaired. At 33 I just Realized I use to stim alot. Not due to autism but due to a combo of anxiety Adhd and my vision. It's funny I never thought vision impairments and stimming could intermingle then i did some googling
Staring at orbs/floaties in eyes, putting my finger in the tag of certain stuffed animals as a kid and doing a thing where I'd be playing a game with my sister or something and act like I freeze. I think as a way to deal with the stimulation... And it drove her cray which was always fun... Pff at 33 it still is. Even as I sit here I am rocking my foot back and fourth against the ankle. Of. The other while sitting in bed with legs folded and didn't even realize it til this second) As I got older I sorta repressed most of the stems unintentionally. Like I said I am only now realizing I stim.
The problem is my anxiety and adhd has sucked and affect me more ever since the stimming faded once I hit 19 20 .
What are some good techniques and also any suggestion on visual stimming aids like those bedroom planet lights that fill Ur room and stuff. Any resources or tips are appreciated. I think finding certain stimming techniques, tools and... Well. Toys lol may help. I'm a 33 yr old man thinking of getting a freaking giant stuffed animal/animal plush body pillow...infeel like I'm alone in all this and just look crazy .

    Hey everyone,
As a girl diagnosed with ADHD who has stims I have seen some things online recently about stimming that are pretty concerning so I wanted to talk about it real quick.
    1. Stimming is normal. You should never be ashamed of your stims as they are just a sign that your body is thinking for you.
    2. Stimming is not a symptom to use for self-diagnosing. Self-diagnosing is never okay but if you see signs of a mental illness/ disability within yourself please see a doctor for help.
    3. Stimming is not done consciously so asking someone to stop because it's "annoying" could actually be pretty hurtful to them and also unfair to them.
    4. I've seen people online saying that stimming is "cute" and endearing. This is just a big NO. Stimming can be a HUGE insecurity for people to deal with and it's definitely not something to fetishize and make goo-goo eyes at.

I know that it isn’t okay to self diagnose just because you relate to a random tiktok or something, but if it is your only option and you have done the research, you are valid. Self diagnosing should only be used if there isn’t a way for you to see a professional. If you are ever able to get help later in life, try to get an assessment and learn more about yourself. Good luck out there

Could chewing your nails be considered stimming?

I stim all the time. Or maybe it’s fidgeting or a combination of both.

That sounds more like a hobby unless you rock while you play like I do, in which case it could be stimming

"Ur stimming and sensitive to noise! Ur autistic!"
nope you're stereotyping autism! I have POTs and bipolar disorder which trigger my anxiety and my sensitivity to light and noise. I'm fine socially. People forget a huge part of autism is social problems, not "being silly stimming and sensory issues."

Bruh I do this weird things with my hands whenever I get excited. I’ve learned not to do it in public but it’s wild to know it’s an actual thing.
