  • On 10th Marth 1967 Cpt John R. "Bob" Pardo used his F-4 Phantom II to push his stricken wingman 88 miles to the safety of the Laos border. We do our best to re-enact this in DCS.

    We had an emergency over Laos where an
    F-4 had one engine out and about 60% engine power on the other engine. The F-4 too turns going inverted to keep him flying. The Nav had already punched out but the pilot was stuck so it was ride it out or....... Normally, a call to a tanker would go out and nurse him along keeping him fueled and using the boom, help him. But a Tanker was too far out. The F-4Es got him within 2 miles of Ubon RTAB when he went down. Have you ever seen a J-79 bent into an l.

    from the photos i saw, the tail spike went through the glass and rested on the metal part of the dash.
    the plastic covered glass kinda held it there, and it was just a perfect point in the airframe. to apply the right kind of forces to keep them in the air.
    so many ways to impale yourself...
    that must of been really freaking hard with the jetwash and turbulance. but im thinking once you get inside that air... there is a point it pushes you together. like nascar drafting.

    third method:
    (assuming the grabber on the tail hook is modeled as solid for the purpose of grabbing an arresting wire)
    Have two F4s fly over the wingtips of the wounded one.
    engage hooks on the back of the wingtips.... tow that injured brick.
    The hooks have a little forgiveness built in for sliding up/down as you drag a carrier deck for the cable.
    - dragging along the back of the wing may have a similar effect?

    I love DCS but one thing that annoys me about DCS is how fragile the aircraft are. IRL, I watched a video of a Yak-130 slam into the ground while trying to roll low level, bounce back up into the air, and fly for a bit before the pilot was forced to punch out. Same thing happened with the Hornet at El Toro and the aircraft slid for a mile before coming to a stop, 99 percent intact. In DCS if you so much as touch wingtips, you're entire aircraft splits in half. So much as lick the grass flying slow and you blow up.

    • @pazsion
      @pazsion Месяц назад

      and yet they took muliple missle hits with the f4 in the top gun 2 canyon run.
      these f4s were rather resilient... many stories about the stuff theyd go through and still make it home.
      so in that way dcs got something right.
      tho simulating glass and plastic may be difficult to do.

    • @OverlordAntares
      @OverlordAntares Месяц назад

      @pazsion They’re fragile where they shouldnt be is my complaint. I'm not gonna complain about surviving a missile hit lol.

  • @istvanbarta

    DCS is still a great simulator, and it worth a try, but unfortunately, the damage modelling is (as expected) not this detailed. The end of the day, it's just a simulator with the main purpose: if you got hit, that part is broken. These small detailed physics are far, even from DCS, at least for the software designed for the current game hardware requirement.
