- In October 2013 we were incredibly privileged to host to one and only Scojo at the Drumline Association of Australia's National Drumline Camp in Melbourne, Australia. This is a short clip from his clinic presentation as part of this 3 day event.
Special thanks to all our Sponsors: Evans, Promark, Optimum Percussion as well as Yamaha and Prologix.
Special thanks also to all the volunteers involved with this amazing event. It would not be possible without these generous people giving up their time.
really took scojoe for granted when he taught us in highschool. he's an incredible talent and a super nice guy
Scojo*
@@agrarvideoscloppenburg764 oof
@@agrarvideoscloppenburg764 haha my bad. I'm wearing a vic firth sweatshirt he gave me around Y2K. Still got it after all these years.
Yeah, I'll have whatever surgery Scott's having. Sign me up.
Best comment lol
Hes got godlike chops, even with a watch on. And also, damn, those playing zones, like damn, just, so consistent
Why would a watch effect the chops?
Cinnamon Life Cereal weight of the watch or how it can throw off rhythm Perfection makes up for this, or always wearing a watch unless you sleep. Though I know some people that do that even
Dani Filip That seems very far fetched, in my experience a watch just limits the movement of your wrist every so slightly.
Dani Filip I sleep with my watch on. I only ever take it off for a shower, after that it goes right back on
look how consistent his playing zones are... holy shit
Lol i like how u said holy shit 😂😂😂
Look at that playing zone its like the size of a quarter damn
Chase Manhart I was about to comment the same thing
Now there’s a practice pad by Ahead called Wicked Chops about that size!
Chase Manhart 2 inch head is totally enough for Scott 14 is too much
@@TheSlayerXnight "2 in head is totally enough" is that what your wife said to you to make you feel better about yourself?
And there's is me who has trouble hitting the spock drum
Scott Johnson is a truly dedicated corps player and teacher. No wonder the Blue Devils drum line is top of the heap year after year with a guy like him heading up the organization! The chops, stick work and playing zone are off the charts impressive! He makes it look easy but those of us who know, what he's doing in this video takes countless hours and years of hard work to accomplish. Words don't exist to express the praise he deserves.
I marched drum corps with Scott Johnson in 1972, that's how long he's been doing this.
Hot damn. Almost 50 years now?
I would almost be ashamed if you weren't basically a God after playing and teaching for 50 years.
that means youre old too
sorry 🥺
@@ilovehomies LMAO
Oh yeah the first year of dci!
right when you thought you were getting good... you watch something like this.... *sigh*
+zakattack1945 you were ready = )
well at the same time, hes been drumming since he was 4 years old and he’s a middle aged man
i think you’ll be fine
I truly love scott johnson. I do appreciate how much dedication he puts into mastering rudiments then playing them his own special way. I love his style and i really think he is the world's best drummer.
This guy is great!!!
I play snare drum in a pipe band at grade 1 level, played with some of the world's best in that field. And this guy has managed to put a smile on my face for the first time in years, really enjoyed this. Very skilled and clean playing. well done, world class in my opinion.
“world class in my opinion” yeaaahhh, lets talk about that 😅
If this doesn’t make you want to get the practice pad out , then nothing will motivate you
i want to but i cant because late
This makes me want to sell my drum and quit.
@@SaneTheBro my eternal struggle lol
I come back to this video at least once a year just to admire his playing zone
Amazing! Very impressive! Love that pearl drum! Bravo!
His mom must have listened to Buddy Rich while pregnant...
Raymond Lisle i dont think buddy rich marched
stanfoo he didn’t he just had fast hands
More like buddy rich is the one that got her pregnant
Buddy had an appreciation for rudimentary drumming and applied it into his own playing
That was a joy to watch. Thank you very much.
Scott Johnson...the man that makes dropping your stick look good. ( 4:13 )
The best drummer and the best technic ever! Thank you Scott
Eh
holy smokes i used to be obsessed with this video! so good
when i grow up I want to be just like Mr. Scott .
and now ? are you like Mr Scott?
Immensely bad ass! It didn't seem your gash was impeding in any way but none the less wish ya the best recovery. Super inspiring!
I love the sound of the snare drum
Darn, that's a real solid two-stroke rolling. I'd kill for that ability. But, sigh, more likely end up dying for it......
Hep Cat just do some double beat
I know right
Selling your soul is a sin
Search up some bill bachman drumworkout stuff, arm pump is mmmm so good
Gotta love Scott Johnson. He's the TRUTH!!!!!!!!
Crazy!! I haven’t even finished the video but I gotta give my man props!
ScoJo's been playing various versions of that solo since he was IN BD in 1976.
Haters will always be strong!!!! Dislike?????? People stop hating cause you definitely cannot do better than this man please!!!!! If you can, send us a link
Wearing a watch would bug the crap out of me... His chops are godlike though DX
my favorite drummer
this made me wanna get up and do some tribal dance lol
i need a transcription of this masterpiece
His control is nauseatingly intimidating. Good show Sir
Favorite solo
Insane!!! I love watching instructors do what they constantly teach their students to do. It's kind, oh! That wasn't just a suggestion, that's how it's actually supposed to work haha. Dude's a beast! ✌🏾
the part where you here the "ahhh" is on ghosted notes hahaha. Amazing playing!
Speechless!!
love it!!
hello! I'm a Brazilian drummer and I have a question... this stick is the DC27 scooter?
Promark system blue

Snare master!! Bravo!
How??
I like this drum solo
This is amazing
Omg this guy is so amazing
Idk if we’re are still coming up with names for this 5 years later, but this shall forever be known to me as the “Dance of the Dark Blue Devil”.
BEAST!!!!
So so good.
He's awesome.
His hands move too fast for the camera to pick up on.
TJ Haley ik it was a joke or whatever but the shutter sore can be adjusted slower to make it look like his hands are really fast
@@joshuachung6624 yo thas pretty cool thanks for letting us know
To just hold your stick's the right way is the begining of being a drummer. As you keep practiceing, you will learn the pretty stuff!
A true wizard.
Awesome!
What rudiment is he using at 1:55-1:56? It sounds really cool
Sounds like flam-triplets on the right just before the downbeat played by his left hand.
+Carter Pennell Cheeses.
+Lars R. Hill those my friend are cheeses
Lars R. Hill hertas?
+MeytalHead no. hertas gave stickings.
So clean. Like new Rolex clean. There is no dirt in his gears.
When you open a new Blu-Ray disc box smell clean?
Machine@@@@Greatness Don't Come EZ!!
Goooooodddddammnnnnnnn . Never has my head nodded to the beat so hard ... shit was dope
On these comments there just isn't enough good adjectives about Scott Johnson's skill and craft. But I wanna add: His sound, his acoustic tune up ..is so Creamy, Smooth and Crisp at the same time!!!
skill like a boss
I once came a post saying the right hand & the left dont sound the same when playing.... Well i can't much every time i watch Scojo play
Is there a recording of this with the whole group or larger speakers?
Clean af!
magical
What's the background track called?
dude hes so good
Legend
whats the name of the song
anybody know what video that beginning warm-up comes from?
Holy shit, how the hell does someone get as good as Scott Johnson? Are there any DCI players right now that can even play half of what he just played?
Ghost flams ftw!
How do you do the little flick thing
look that ending, brutal
Scott is one of the few that can make it look like a dropped drumstick is part of the piece...!
He is also one of the few that drops their sticks…
Those grace notes are just never wrong
now this is what you call a byos
"surgery"
How else did he got chops like that
My favorite part about this is the "No Parking" Sign behind Scott.
I don't understand what he's playing at the end.. Could somebody figure it out?
PROLOGIX WAS STARTED IN MY HOME TOWN
YOOOO
I just now realized who you are. Aren't you section leader at GlenOak?
no but I'm a freshman snare at jackson
Your instagrams aha
DYLAN HI I ACTUALLY KNOW YOU NOW
.......no words
This guy's going places.
This guy has already been places.
***** Yes guys, that's a joke. lmao. IT'S SCOJO! he was AT the place, Created a NEW place and is gonna go where he don't need roads! OMG could you imagine if bd did a BTF Show though.
Ah okay man you sacred me for a second. That would indeed be epic!
those flams
😱😱
Im not even close to flams like that, ghost flams? forget me! lol
I can probably play tgat at .25 speed tho lol
but then again, I'm only in hs lol
so I will learn more and better I guess lol
it would be Interesting to see the sheet music for this lol
sign of a professional drummer--when they drop a stick and never miss a beat and by the end of it all, you completely forgot that they dropped it in the first place..........
Master at work~ even with a hurt hand. unreal
Dave M what happened to his hand
Jesus Ramirez He had to have surgery on it, don't know how he hurt it originally.~
4:24
I can hear myself yelling in the beginning hahahahaha
I seen Scott play that solo in 1982 at skips clinic and he did not drop the stick.
Excellent performance. Thanks.
Look folks. He is human. Like the rest of us. Practice makes perfect. Get busy!
No... Practice makes permanent...
