Well, you should check for symptoms. -Do you feel the urge to communicate using merely your eyebrows? - Are your responses becoming ever-so-slightly mocking, but not enough for anyone to be quite sure? - Do the words "France/French" cause an automatic look of mild disapproval? - Have you ever responded to being asked if you want a hot beverage with the words "Thanks, I'm gasping"? - Do you feel the urge to put odd things in sandwiches, like fish fingers or cheese and onion crisps?
Same girl same.... I found out I'm only 75% black and 25% white which is higher than I thought cause I don't look it but its enough of a percentage to ask myself am I mixed? 😅😅
Same. My dad is about ten percent British/Scottish despite being pretty dark skin. The only downside is that you know that 10% wasn’t from some loving relationship. As far as race goes, it’s a construct. There’s no percentage to be pure anything and people have moved about and intermingled far before the 20th century.
I think American’s latch onto an identity, even if it’s a small amount, because it doesn’t feel like just be “American” has a culture (unless you count being loud, and eating trashy food.) The US is such a melting pot of cultures, for someone who is just “white”, it’s easy to feel lost. In the grand scheme of other countries, the US is so young, so we can’t trace our heritage as just “American” back very far. An example, someone who is Japanese can trace their ancestors back hundreds, if not thousands, of years and it’s a country rich with history.
American is your culture. Having an identity crisis because you're a toddler nation doesn't give you the right to latch on to other countries' cultures

I'm a quarter filipina, but I'm obsessed with Japan. I wonder if I have Japanese ancestory/heritage that no one knew or told me about...now that I see you mentioned the Philippines was under Imperial Japan rule at one point. It would make more sense!
I'm Canadian and we tend to do the same as Americans when it comes to holding on to our ethnicities. I think a lot of it has to do with holding on to our cultural roots since we are nations comprised of mostly immigrants. I can't really speak for other cultures, but I am 1/4 Japanese and the Japanese-Canadian community considers me to be Japanese-Canadian in addition to my other backgrounds. This has a lot to do with the aftermath of WW2, the Japanese-Canadian internment, and the forced moving of Japanese-Canadians to the nation's interior. The trauma of the event created an overall greater desire for us to assimilate into Canadian culture in order to prove our loyalty. As a result, we have become among the most ethnically mixed groups in Canada due to all the interracial marriages. I am a fourth generation Japanese-Canadian, and most Japanese-Canadians in my generation are 1/4 Japanese. Now there are fifth and even sixth generation people of Japanese descent who are 1/8th and 1/16th Japanese respectively. Most of us can't speak Japanese and we are losing the traditions, both Japanese and those unique to our specific community, among younger generations. So I think there has been an effort to keep our culture alive and, with the romanticization of Japanese culture in the past few decades and being so far removed from the events of WW2, I think there has been increasing interest in younger generations of Japanese-Canadians to rediscover their roots and reclaim what was lost. I don't know how it is for Japanese-Americans, but I suspect our experiences are pretty similar. It may seem odd to claim 1/16th descent, but I think there can be legitimate reasons for it. Also, a lot of the time, it is not that Canadians (and maybe Americans too?) are claiming the culture, but just think it is interesting and cool to know where their roots come from. Also, keep in mind that for many who are even 1/8th of some ethnicity likely have family members of that ethnic group and many grow up experiencing that culture to varying degrees throughout their lives. Growing up mixed can be very confusing because it can be hard to know where you belong, what your identity is, or even who you are allowed to be. There is always that feeling that no one recognizes you as one of their own and that you are not allowed to claim any culture at all, and the degree to which this is true of course varies from family to family and ethnicity to ethnicity.
You do know "English" tea isn't actually English, It's Indian! We stole tea from China, and transplanted it into India, creating their tea industry, and then bred it to produce a flavour that suited our tastes. And then started exporting it from India to Britain. And it ended up with the name English tea, because it was tea made for the English. Anyway, where I come (England) from being 0.8% British should be considered "hitting the jackpot". Oh and yeah that American thing of clinging onto long past distant genetic lineage is odd. I still can't see what is wrong with just being "American". America is a great country.

I'm sorry for your loss
Edit: wtf is going on with the replies o-O
Being British is still Better then being American or from most European countries right now , like holy shit even without poltical shenanigans Europe is such a mess especially with how the treat their island colonies like majorca
@@Sparksparky1especially French.
@@Sparksparky1 Sad to say but we're not far behind.
@monkey39128 unfortunately it doesn't matter what your beliefs are most poltical parties are awful both labour and reform have proved how shite they are thanks to they're leaders and I have absolutely no respect anymore for anti immigrants rioters who took advantage of the death of 3 little girls and took advantage of the poor/jobless by forcing them into violent protests,
all these anti immigrants or far right people or whatever you want to call them need to do their homework on British history we are a island built on immigrants

Brussel sprouts and broccoli aren't bitter for me.
They can be bitter for people? Weird lol.
That musical pitch is funny. I went to lunch with coworker on his birthday to a Filipino restaurant and learned they like to sing. Never knew there were so many Filipino people in middle of Texas.
I was always told i was German growing up as my father was a second generation german immigrant. Turned out he wasnt my actual father and my real dad was my step father.. it was trippy to find out.
As someone who's also cursed, my condolences on your Britishness. It doesn't get better 😔
These tests throw up some interesting things. I'm London (UK) born but my ancestry is mostly Scottish, Irish, North European and Scandinavian but there's a little bit of me that's Nigerian and....... I'm above average for Neanderthal!
Particularly proud of that last one.
Amazing video akidearest,fantastic job.
"I feel like other cultures get more invested in someone else's country than their own."
..........What a very British thing for you to say, Aki...
"I like baked beans cold from the tin"
I YELPED 😂
I feel like people regret having taken that test, now
Even Guam has mix ethnicity too. So, through out part of the Pacific Ocean, some are mix nationalities.
3:50 No way, we have the same birthday!
I'm American, and in terms of my DNA, I am mostly European with trace ancestry of Native American, Sub-Saharan African, and Neanderthal. I have a lot of British/Irish in my DNA. I was not expecting to have that in common with you. I have been experimenting with making crumpets from scratch. I've gotten pretty good, but I've been trying to get as good as possible with it. They've been so fun to make! it's the one British dish I know how to make. I also make shepherd's pie and Irish soda bread every year for St Patrick's Day. It's meaningful to be able to cook cultural dishes, and crumpets could be yours too! St. Patrick's day could be more fun for you now, hehe!
Hi! I'm a brit that is half asian! You need to come and visit us here in the UK. You'll love how multicultural some of the areas are, with so many different foods to eat. See if you can do some digging and find out which country of the UK you're from, or which island, or area.
She's 0.8. It's so small and most probably not genuine ancestry. In an update that 0.8 could disappear.
"After much training and experience in theology, Jesuits went across the globe in search of converts to Christianity. Despite their dedication, they had little success in Asia, except in the Philippines." Wikipedia.
Okay so the Jesuits are basically Greek Catholics that took evangelism seriously. It make since for there to be Greek ancestries in the philistines.
I like theology. I heard about this from a Filipino fren a while ago.
Connor be like whats good cuz?
I’m Cajun (family name Bordelon and relatives include Benoit, Prejean, & Chiasson). Majority of ancestry is north west France and southeastern England so no shock. Only shock was no south Louisiana natives.
Don't forget to be annoyed by the weather, its a must for us brits

It's so unfair what some people have to go through. You have my deepest condolences. ~Sincerely, an American.
5:12 There's a few books on this actually. Mostly to do with having our cultures and heritage being homogenized.
Hatsuna miku is going to catch some hands ✋️
You know I would love to take one of these tests but I'm worried about these genetic companies issues with privacy and exposure of very personal data
Same girl same....
I found out I'm only 75% black and 25% white which is higher than I thought cause I don't look it but its enough of a percentage to ask myself am I mixed? 😅😅
I guess you are😂😂😂 dna is so fascinating
@@ae5664 it truly is 🤣
Same. My dad is about ten percent British/Scottish despite being pretty dark skin. The only downside is that you know that 10% wasn’t from some loving relationship.
As far as race goes, it’s a construct. There’s no percentage to be pure anything and people have moved about and intermingled far before the 20th century.
So, if you're American, does that mean you have to pay yourself 25% reparations?
If that 25% is British, it means you already paid it.
@@djinnxx7050 🤣🤣🤣 that's correct guess I don't

That's pretty 50's britain tbh 😂

I think American’s latch onto an identity, even if it’s a small amount, because it doesn’t feel like just be “American” has a culture (unless you count being loud, and eating trashy food.) The US is such a melting pot of cultures, for someone who is just “white”, it’s easy to feel lost. In the grand scheme of other countries, the US is so young, so we can’t trace our heritage as just “American” back very far. An example, someone who is Japanese can trace their ancestors back hundreds, if not thousands, of years and it’s a country rich with history.
American is your culture. Having an identity crisis because you're a toddler nation doesn't give you the right to latch on to other countries' cultures
thank you aki so much for todays video
I love it when you scream.. BRITISH! 😱 with that 0.8% to that Northen European .. 😁 I don't even know most or any of my backgroun history .. lol this is awesome !

Your a wizard aki.
A comedian once asked "If a white man who is born and raised in South Africa, who then immigrates to the US and becomes an US citizen, can he then call himself an African American?"
I really want to take one of these! From what i know, half Portuguese on my moms side, and the other half on my dads side is german, french, irish and cherokee. Would be cool to find out for sure and conform!
You gotta do the accent from now on. It's the rules, whether you like it or not.
AKI PLZ THE EDITS😭😭
I'm an Australian, but I am definitely with you on the listening to the Beatles thing!
I'm from the UK and our kits don't have all the extras like what your susceptible too. Just the percentages of heritage!
im so sorry, get well soon
Sorry for your loss Aki.
Yeah you do have a midlands vibe ( tanned, and going out for a lot of drinking on a Saturday ).
Every time I watch these videos I wanna test my self even more

(Bordering Spain)

4%:Navajo and Inuit
4% Central American

As a fellow britbong, i am sorry for your loss
My mother did one of these tests, and uploaded the results, and found out the identity of the father she never knew. He died about 20 years ago, but she has made a connection with his family.
I've never done the dna test. I feel like spitting in a cup is wayy to far for me

I did mine through ancestry dna, I'm thinking about doing it through 23 and me as well I like how they break down the traits 😂
What version of the ancestry did you get? I've been looking into doing one myself but there's like 4 options. Whatever version you did sounds exactly like what I want.
