Thanks for the video! I thought I was the only one with issues. Now I don’t feel so bad about getting scammed. I had the same problems, plus a broken motor. They sent a replacement but I had to install it myself, otherwise they’d charge me for a technician to do it. I live 2 hours from their office and I’d have to pay for the travel time too. This was about 7 years ago. Thank god for track saws to straight edges.

Thanks for the info. Wish I had seen your video last month. I have ordered the A3 31 and waiting on it to be delivered (end of June). to be honest I am a bit worried now. Every other video I watched before buying the machine was full of praise for these machines. I was also looking to get the K3 panel saw but think I will hold of for now and see how the plainer is.

@@Maxime-ho9iv hmm you could not make this one up. I purchased the A3 and K3 at the same time and both were to be delivered together. Delivery delayed due to covid backlog and stuff.. when the machines arrived at my workshop the delivery Company could not unload them from there truck and said they would be back tomorrow. Next day driver turned up and said the same thing, next I know both machines sent back to felder. Felder only rcvd the A3 back and no one could tell me what has happened to the K3. A week later a rep from felder turned up in with the A3 and unloaded it into the workshop and said they would contact me re the K3. A week after that the K3 turned up and they sent it out. They also sent a full set of knives out for the A3 and 3 spare blades for the K3 as a goodwill gesture. They did this off there own back. Both machine are running great.
I just checked my SCM Nova FS410. The worst diagonal dish I could find was 0.08mm, or 3.14 thousands of an inch, on the infeed table, and 0.05 on the outfeed. The straight line flatness, i.e. with the straight edge parallel to the fence, was remarkable. Better than 0.03mm or 1.18 thousands of an inch across the width of the infeed and outfeed tables. This is so precise that the straight edge was pinching a human hair in the middle. SCM done good!
I feel you man. I have this same jointer/planer for almost a year now. It's a pain in the...Though I have pretty ok tolerances, like no more than 6 thou in the lowest spot on the outfit table, the setup and calibration is a pain. And the worst of it, the calibration last for no more than 2 weeks. Don't know what to do with it. After hours of calibrating (cause this is not an easy job with this machine) even if I tighten all the screws, bolts and nuts that this piece of...has, after a couple of weeks of use you have to take it all over again. Even now as I write this comment i'm in the process of calibrating it. It started to snipe when jointing and i have to raise the outfit table for about 4 thou. Even for most of the machines (in this price range) this is piece of cake, not for hammer. You have to disassemble parts of the machine, loosen 4 nuts and then try to hit that 4 thou by chance. I hate it. The only thing good about it its the motor (it has good power) and the cutter-head. I'm not willing even to sell it because I'll feel sorry for the buyer. Aaaa....i also have the K3 winner that i'm gonna sell. Felder will lose a lot of potential customers by selling hammer machines.
I really thought I had a lemon. I figured a company like felder couldn’t of gotten to where it is today by putting out machines like mine even with the lower end machines but it seems like the lemon tree is growing bigger. That was one big thing I noticed about the machine for the breed time I had it. The tables were extremely unsupported. I needed to run pretty boards through it and there was no way it was going to handle it. It’s crazy that they even sell table extensions for it. SCM makes fine equipment, I almost bought a minimax fs 30c myself. A word about Hammer/Felder, their service, at least here in the states is "Outstanding". Long story short, I bought a A3-31 that worked perfect until it was moved, then it went completely out of calibration, possibly a bent frame from shipping. They swapped out machines, now this one had a bad cutter head, (“Silent-POWER" spiral blade cutterblock), swapped out the cutter head. It was much better, but not as good as the first machine, which was awesome. So the tech spent hours swapping out and moving cutters around so it was usable for me until a solution could be found. Felder didn’t hesitate at continuing to work on the machine until I called a stop to it. I told them that I believe that they would eventually get the machine to perform as it should, but at this point I want to move on, so I upgraded to a Felder AD-531. My point is the Hammer series machines are good and have an outstanding reputation. I know people that have them with none of the problems that I had. There are always going to be outliers and one offs, don’t freak out, at least here in the states, Hammer/Felder service will stand behind their product and should elsewhere.
I do recognize that I got a lemon. Felder for me in Canada was no help. No word or response to my emails or phone calls. Unfortunately that was my only experience with the company personally. I know many people with felder machines that are all happy with them (not hammer). For me its not worth taking another kick at that can.

I'm waiting on a Felder FB-510 band saw due in July, and a Robust Sweet 16 2.0 lathe due about the same time. Fingers crossed all goes well with them. 🤦♂️ Haha. Side note; I'm that guy, you know,? Thanks for being honest. I thought I was the only one being disappointed with my Hammer A3. I cannot get my fence to 90 degrees and the dealer technician by Miller in Germany couldn't either 😉. And the tables are not straight as well 😭! No support by the dealer or Felder. I had contact with both. Next one will be an SCM or Jet. But first I have to get rid of this Hammer A3-31.
Hi, after watching your video i’m super worried. I’m having my A3-41 shipping from Austria now and because of covid-19, the shipping fee went ridiculous. I had spent almost €9,000 for this machine... I have a question, for a normal conditioned planer, it supposed to be flat (at least under 4 thou) all the time right? Would it be affected by weather or time? Thanks you for you sharing btw.
Hello, Thanks for your honesty and bitchin' review. One of my subscribers told me about your video. I got 3 Hammer line machines (K3 Winner, A3-41 and N4400) I have got the same A3-41 (€4700) and I found the same problems as you but not that much out like yours. But still mine has the exact same problems as yours. In the beginning the machine seemed to be set by the technician to the extreme just to work and by 2 months in started to show the problems. We tried to calibrate it but to no avail. Then the technician came again and said that it would be no problem to calibrate it but he took more than 7 hours fiddling with it. He said that it was good and left. Again after 1 month the tables got out of tolerances and the machine was performing badly with snipe happening 2/3 down the one meter long board. We thought this was not normal and contacted Felder directly (not the supplier). The technician from Felder I spoke to was really nice and without hesitation offered me the change of the tables. Now we're waiting for that but we're afraid because I read in your comments that German gentleman had the same problem and the jointer tables replacement haven't had any effect on the performance of A3-41. We hope ours will be well, but very much doubt so. You will find on my channel that I had problems with K3 Winner table saw and after some time and negotiation (8 months) directly with Felder I received Felder K700 and for now I can say I'm indeed satisfied with it. It works great and I hope it will last. It seems Felder really screwed things in Hammer line production and their Felder and Format line are good machines (for now). PS The table on N4400 had also a quite big dip in the middle of the cast iron table but the technician bent it to tolerances using shims. Otherwise, that is the only Hammer machine that works fine from the beginning and the only one I could recommend. But, due to other problems my machines from Hammer line had I wouldn't recommend this one either.
Glad to hear your felder machine is working out. It doesn’t make sense to me with the price of hammer machines that we shouldn’t be able to expect a reasonable level of quality.

I had some problems with my tables when received my A3-41 a few years back. The flatness in the middle and end of the tables was fine. Near the cutter head the edges were curved up .006"-.008". It was actually curved up more than that but my one-way gauge stared to rest on the ramped section before it got to the edge. It looks like the tables were poorly supported along that thin edge when Felder machined them. I eventually got fed up not being able to adjust enough of the snipe out. I took the tables off and took them to a local grinding shop. It cost me $150 to have them flattened. Taking the tables off and on then aligning them was a pain but the machine is producing much better results. I am disappointed in Felder that I had to do all that work to bring the machine to the level it should have been when I received it.
I got my Hammer A3 41 about a month ago or should I say a Covid A3 41. Bed warps on all 2 of them. Not able to get acceptable alignment. Waiting for precision straight edge & depth gauge to arrive to do proper checks. I am also curious as to the SCM beds were for being true.

@@plexuswoodworks1771 Glad to hear the SCM is within acceptable tolerances. The dealer has not been much help. They still think that up to .008" & even .012" on the diagonal out is no problem. Maybe if I was building Bird Houses.
@@dwaynejohre7064 when I first received mine a jointed a face of a 20'' chunk of 2x4. after oooing and awing over how smooth and quiet the cutter head was and the quality of the cut i noticed the masive banana i just created from an already flat board i knew .008 and .012 was "a problem".
@@dwaynejohre7064 The thing is simple... you could find any fault with a machined surface and complain, but the truth is that a well set up machine will be perfect. I have a 15 year old A3 and never skipped a beat. BUT, I did get it set up correctly first. If there is a little dip in the table, you simply drop the infeed table edge by around the thickness of a piece of paper and you are gold. Proper setup = GOLD.
@@boncadenhorst Well Con, the biggest difference between your machine & 99% of the Hammer A3-4's sold 3 plus years ago, is that mine & the 1 in this video were built during the Covid Crap. These had concaves from ends to end & sides to side. This was on both tables. There is no making it "GOLD" with an adjustment the thickness of paper. I spent roughly 40 hours to prove to Felder rep that it was not able to be useable. Like this unit, mine has also been returned. so yes "Proper Setup = GOLD" but "Not Able To Setup = A CHUNK OF CASTIRON" aka "BOAT ANCHOR".
Wow! Just imagine what is going to happen to quality as all these manufactures rush to catch up on production from COVID down time and the crazy demands right now. Scary.

Was looking for reviews for a G 380 and stumbled on this video, was gonna purchase from the same dealer as well. My shop has casadei machines but my old dealer stopped selling them, might have to rethink my edgebander.
Im super happy with my combo machine. I did just get a Felder k500s though. i wanted to get a nova 400 from scm but dude to availability and wait times in our current world situation and being there was a Felder equivalent in stock i had to go for it. hopefully im not making another bitchy video in the coming days. Im sure itll be fine though.
Also, the front screws are course thread and the rear are fine thread. The outward adjustment screws are also not far enough outward. This is a major design flaw having to adjust these outward screws from the inward side to make the outward side move is dumb. I am an engineer that has to solve these types of design flaws all the time and this machine is riddled with problems. I would say if you want to take a chance buying the machine, go for it. If you want to be certain of not having a problem, buy another brand. If I was do it over again, I would not buy this machine.
I’m glad to have seen this. I was about to pull the trigger on an A3-41 based mostly on all the praise I’ve seen. Can’t go wrong, right? Guess I need to go back to my tried and true meticulous research and analysis. Gonna be a hot minute before I get one meow :/

I agree mine is also out on the infeed side at .006" bow in the middle from side to side. The length is out .003" on infeed and outfeed tables along the length, which is acceptable. I have probably put up to 40 hrs on this machine trying to get is set up and I'm still not happy. Felder is terrible and not responsive. I think they know this machine also has a major design flaw at the adjustment points. If you look at the front and back adjustment screws they are not square but more of a Parallelogram
Felder doesn't make good tables or castings period. They don't season their castings properly. The old makers left them out in the weather for at least two or three year's before machining them. You can't get a feeler gauge under my Wadkin table's and that's with a two meter hardened and ground Moore and Wright heavy engineers straight edge, not some piss ant Lee Valley toy straight edge. There is simply no way you can get truly accurate jointing or planing unless your beds are spot bollock flat and coplanar all the way. Trust me, I've used a lot of jointers over the years. Never ever pay for a machine until you've shit tested it with a straight edge. That includes the thicknesser bed too. Same with their panel saws. I guarantee you you won't get co planar out of their sliding tables at full extension. They sag. Badly.
This is very disappointing. I have a A3-31 and N4400 recieved in 2018. Luckily no issues. Lately I've been seeing quite a few reviews similar to yours. I'm extremely leery about buying another Hammer in the future. It takes so much time to build a reputation and barely any to ruin one.
I have had an A3 41 for three years (Silentpower, 3 phase) it works perfect, and have not needed any calibration yet whatsoever - Im a machine engineer professionally and a bit of a tolerancefreak - so they are not all bad.
Sounds like in the past 18 months their QC has dropped dramatically, older machines tend not to have anywhere near as much issues. Spoke to a guy who just took delivery of a new AD941 (the model up from this) and he is getting the entire machine replaced already. Pretty disappointing.
This video about sums up my experience with Felder. They are not the least interested in fixing things. Once you have paid all they do is talking and zero helping.
This was my experience also. Bought a Felder jointer planer and it's been a lot of trouble. With such an expensive machine you'd expect a lot more. And customer service is not good.
I've had the same experience with my dealer of Felder but once I have published the video Felder contacted me directly and I upgraded to better machine. Instead of K3 i have now K700 and I love it. I made some not do nice videos on this on my channel.
I recently took delivery of a Felder FB710 bandsaw, which was an absolute horror show of quality control issues. Welds so bad that the Felder sales guy quipped that his 6 year old child could do better, spatter all over the place, doors out of alignment, bent bedding plate (the part that holds the table and tilt mechanism), the main column of the saw was welded to the base/foot with so little care that it was out of alignment by 5mm across a width of 200mm. These were all factory issues, not transport damage. Packaging wise, the saw was pristine when it arrived. I have lots of photos if anyone is interested. The only thing I will say is that Steve at Felder UK was amazing with his support, agreeing to give me a refund the next day, which was many days before they had collected the saw. My regional rep Jamie is utterly useless though. Doesn’t respond to enquiries, knows nothing about the machines and generally doesn’t seem fussed.
I paid €800 for my J/P, which is likely less than the cost of one of the Felder tables, yet my tables are flat to 0.001 inch on the outfeed and 0.002 inch on the infeed. It's still a piece of crap, but at least the tables are flat. 😂
@@Maxime-ho9iv It works well. I had a warranty issue with the capacitors. They sent new parts and I installed them. It took about a half hour. They're communication could be better. Things are working fine so far.
@@chuckgrumble5440 Works great! I enjoy using it for the most part. Switching between jointer and thicknessing can become tedious if you have to do it frequently (e.g. you need to remake something) but other than that I enjoy using it.
I had a similar experience when I received my A3-41 machine 3 years ago. i was informed those were acceptable tolerances (I think it was up to 10,000ths was acceptable - could remember this wrong it was 3 years ago). Ended up paying a large setup fee for a machine that was expected to be setup out of the box. The setup was to ensure the beds were co-planner. They were not. Adjustment of the machine is not easy, lots of bolts and moving parts to get machine co-planner. The service technician took most of the day setting up my machine - he had lots of experience. He was a great person and free with information. When I call Felder service with the problems I have had with the machine they are responsive. My issue is why should I have to call so much on a machine I paid that much money for. I had been told this was a highly engineered top of the line machine. The price paid would've suggested so, but the tolerances and issues i have had would indicate the quality isn't as portrayed. I just ended up living with the bed flatness tolerances. The machine works well, but tends to go out of alignment and needs some type of adjustment every 6 to 8 months. I wouldn't expect that for the amount I paid. I will be interested in hearing your review of the new machine.

Your story exactly mirrors mine up to the word except mine needed adjustment after 2 months and then after 1month and now every 7 days. We have given up on it and we will upgrade to Felder AD741.
I've had issues with my table flatness in addition to other issues. My current new issue is that the rod end-like part that holds keeps the drive bar in place broke. I can't use the planer until it is fixed. This simple part is in the middle of the machine. I have to take everything apart to replace it. Then recalibrate the entire machine. I've had enough of this machine and calibrating it. Like others I have to calibrate my tables every couple of months and I don't even use my machine that heavily. I'm considering going with the Felder AD741 mainly because I might get a better trade in for a machine that needs repairs then selling it myself. Still looking into my options. The minimax fs 41e is one of those options I'm looking into. I wish there were more videos for it.
I'm not sure why the Hammer machines have such a following/glowing reports etc on forums. I have an A3-31 an N4400 and my table saw is a Minimax SC4E ( was slightly cheaper in OZ than a fully specced K3 winner comfort ), the Minimax is in completely different realm to hammers. Felder does clearly state that these are hobby machines, buying again I certainly wouldn't bother with them.
They had to of been good at some point I guess. For felder to have the reputation it does they just had to of been good. Regardless of the hobby title a machine that costs as much as they do they should at least be to a Serrano spec. You can buy a dewalt table saw for a couple hundred bucks and it Does what it’s supposed to do and you get what you pay for and that should be the same with a $9000.00 dollar jointer/planer. Scm‘’S “hobby” machine is wicked good. I used it for a long time before upgrading to my FS41E. Thanks for watching. I hope the amount of negative feed back these machines have been getting gets felder to step up.
I have Felder and SCM in my shop. I feel Felder/Hammer is for professional hobbyist/Artisan, where as SCM is for production. I recently upgraded my table saw to SCM L’Invincibile. This was after comparing with Felder’s “equivalent” the Kappa 590 and I was not convinced at all.
hello, I´m a cabinetmaker from Germany and I have bougt a Hammer too. the same machine with the same problems. When I´ve talked to the technician about these problems, he said it was normal . Then the tables were changed, but it really didn´t get much better either.I thought I am the only one with these problems or who sees them, if you want to work exactly, it is almost impossible, you have to invest so much time in the settings. I bought an old planing machine with absolutely smooth and straight tables, on which I will now change the ball bearings and then work with them .As I said, I'm really happy to have seen this video now, I was beginning to doubt myself, everyone else was just always full of praise for this machine - the silent power cutting head? on the machine is good, very, very smooth surfaces , but not this tables.Which machine have you bought now , wich company or brand? Your doors look good.In wich country are you? And sorry for my not very good english.
Hello mike, your English is better than mine!I live in British Columbia, Canada . I appreciate the response. Before I bought the hammer all I saw was great reviews and flashy videos praising the machine. It was after and digging a little deeper I started to find the bad reviews. I’ve also noticed in the last few months there has been several more videos with similar complaints. After finally returning the machine at my own expense and after using my friends casedei pfs41 (an apparently inferior machine that came perfectly tuned) I decided to go with SCM minimax but go with there middle of the road option the FS 41E,It’s been a great machine and came well within spec. I’m going to do a video soon on it as there’s not much info out there.

Originally, SCM is probably an Italian company, but I have already found information on the internet that they are producing in India today, the machines from the 80s were probably very good, but I don't know how good they are today. In Germany we also have our own manufacturers, Martin etc. but they are as expensive as they are good. It would be like buying a Mercedes, you would first have to plan a lot of wood to be able to buy it :-)

As far as I know nobody got this machine for free, they actually purchased it like I did. I bought mine because of the review of Jay Bates but he also wasn't sponsored. He has no problems so far with his A3-41.

@@sethhamilton5824 They did not. That is really why I posted the video. I called and emailed felder and got no response. The dealer expected me to just have a machine that I couldn't use and didn't want to give me my money back. I think if I didn't buy it with a credit card and have buyer protection through the card I may not have gotten my money back not to mention I lost money on shipping and had to spend a day driving 4 hours to drop it off back at the store.

I’ve just received a brand new A3 41 and have similar issues. The beds aren’t co-planar nor are they close to flat which makes setup virtually impossible, the edge joint faces are aren’t acceptable as I’m unable to “clamp out” the gaps. Adjusting the beds to be co-planar is a nightmare as every time you tighten the adjusters they move out of adjustment. I waited 6 months to receive my A3 41 and K3winner. Neither are useable from the factory. I do t see why I should have to pay for a service technician to come to my hose just to make the machines useable. I also didn’t even receive all the parts for the K3. So far my experience with felder/hammer has been nothing short of disappointing.
Can you give us a follow up here? There seems to be more comments with the same kind of issues. Have you been able to dig into the subject? Is there really a quality assurance issue? Did you solve it?
Why does this machine cost so much? In my opinion thast's way too much! I live in Austria and here it costs a little bit over 4000€ with in the scilent cutterhead!
Those tables are like noodles. I can flex the end between the inner eccentric and the cutter by .005” with one finger. Ours also was not ground. Milled with an out of tram cutter that made the tables into half pipes with ramps towards the cutter. Luckily I have a cnc mill big enough to fit the tables. Just got done machining both. Joints like it should now. I’ll post a video once I edit it later.
it is milled... if you wanted surface ground, would it not be crazy expensive? and unless you're doing mad CNC engineering, is it that important? Every time a part is milled, the tension in the substrate then causes it to potentially twist. you then need to repeat this until you get it to 0.0000. Again, it is nice, but is it essential? the Format4 Dual has that and it is sweet... but it is almost 5x the price...

That's some serious bulls#$t right there. You can't get a 1 thou feeler under my Wadkin tables anywhere. Felder is an unbelievably shonky machinery maker. The dealers are just as bad. I would never ever recommend Felder to anyone let alone their budget fudget Hammer brand. You'll get hammered all right. From behind, dry. Can't believe a door maker uses such a lightweight girly machine. Dude, you need to get a serious machine. The new one will crap out soon enough, you can count on it. Felder doesn't season their castings. They often start to wind after a few year's. By then your warranty won't be worth jack. Lipstick doesn't make a pig in to a total babe and fancy paint job's don't make a Felder a quality machine unless you enjoy getting shafted.

I believe it may be cheaper when you factor in what you get. wit the hammer you have to pay extra for a mobility kit and more for a dial indicator.
After a period of use, the table top will No longer be accurate,right ?

Thanks for the info. Wish I had seen your video last month. I have ordered the A3 31 and waiting on it to be delivered (end of June). to be honest I am a bit worried now. Every other video I watched before buying the machine was full of praise for these machines. I was also looking to get the K3 panel saw but think I will hold of for now and see how the plainer is.

@@Maxime-ho9iv hmm you could not make this one up. I purchased the A3 and K3 at the same time and both were to be delivered together. Delivery delayed due to covid backlog and stuff.. when the machines arrived at my workshop the delivery Company could not unload them from there truck and said they would be back tomorrow. Next day driver turned up and said the same thing, next I know both machines sent back to felder. Felder only rcvd the A3 back and no one could tell me what has happened to the K3. A week later a rep from felder turned up in with the A3 and unloaded it into the workshop and said they would contact me re the K3. A week after that the K3 turned up and they sent it out. They also sent a full set of knives out for the A3 and 3 spare blades for the K3 as a goodwill gesture. They did this off there own back. Both machine are running great.
I just checked my SCM Nova FS410. The worst diagonal dish I could find was 0.08mm, or 3.14 thousands of an inch, on the infeed table, and 0.05 on the outfeed.
The straight line flatness, i.e. with the straight edge parallel to the fence, was remarkable. Better than 0.03mm or 1.18 thousands of an inch across the width of the infeed and outfeed tables. This is so precise that the straight edge was pinching a human hair in the middle. SCM done good!

I feel you man. I have this same jointer/planer for almost a year now. It's a pain in the...Though I have pretty ok tolerances, like no more than 6 thou in the lowest spot on the outfit table, the setup and calibration is a pain. And the worst of it, the calibration last for no more than 2 weeks. Don't know what to do with it. After hours of calibrating (cause this is not an easy job with this machine) even if I tighten all the screws, bolts and nuts that this piece of...has, after a couple of weeks of use you have to take it all over again. Even now as I write this comment i'm in the process of calibrating it. It started to snipe when jointing and i have to raise the outfit table for about 4 thou. Even for most of the machines (in this price range) this is piece of cake, not for hammer. You have to disassemble parts of the machine, loosen 4 nuts and then try to hit that 4 thou by chance. I hate it. The only thing good about it its the motor (it has good power) and the cutter-head. I'm not willing even to sell it because I'll feel sorry for the buyer. Aaaa....i also have the K3 winner that i'm gonna sell. Felder will lose a lot of potential customers by selling hammer machines.
I really thought I had a lemon. I figured a company like felder couldn’t of gotten to where it is today by putting out machines like mine even with the lower end machines but it seems like the lemon tree is growing bigger. That was one big thing I noticed about the machine for the breed time I had it. The tables were extremely unsupported. I needed to run pretty boards through it and there was no way it was going to handle it. It’s crazy that they even sell table extensions for it. That is my same experience after 3 years of occasional use.
SCM makes fine equipment, I almost bought a minimax fs 30c myself. A word about Hammer/Felder, their service, at least here in the states is "Outstanding". Long story short, I bought a A3-31 that worked perfect until it was moved, then it went completely out of calibration, possibly a bent frame from shipping. They swapped out machines, now this one had a bad cutter head, (“Silent-POWER" spiral blade cutterblock), swapped out the cutter head. It was much better, but not as good as the first machine, which was awesome. So the tech spent hours swapping out and moving cutters around so it was usable for me until a solution could be found. Felder didn’t hesitate at continuing to work on the machine until I called a stop to it. I told them that I believe that they would eventually get the machine to perform as it should, but at this point I want to move on, so I upgraded to a Felder AD-531. My point is the Hammer series machines are good and have an outstanding reputation. I know people that have them with none of the problems that I had. There are always going to be outliers and one offs, don’t freak out, at least here in the states, Hammer/Felder service will stand behind their product and should elsewhere.
I do recognize that I got a lemon. Felder for me in Canada was no help. No word or response to my emails or phone calls. Unfortunately that was my only experience with the company personally. I know many people with felder machines that are all happy with them (not hammer). For me its not worth taking another kick at that can.

I'm waiting on a Felder FB-510 band saw due in July, and a Robust Sweet 16 2.0 lathe due about the same time. Fingers crossed all goes well with them. 🤦♂️ Haha.

Thanks for being honest. I thought I was the only one being disappointed with my Hammer A3. I cannot get my fence to 90 degrees and the dealer technician by Miller in Germany couldn't either 😉. And the tables are not straight as well 😭! No support by the dealer or Felder. I had contact with both. Next one will be an SCM or Jet. But first I have to get rid of this Hammer A3-31.

Hi, after watching your video i’m super worried. I’m having my A3-41 shipping from Austria now and because of covid-19, the shipping fee went ridiculous. I had spent almost €9,000 for this machine... I have a question, for a normal conditioned planer, it supposed to be flat (at least under 4 thou) all the time right? Would it be affected by weather or time? Thanks you for you sharing btw.

One of my subscribers told me about your video.
I got 3 Hammer line machines (K3 Winner, A3-41 and N4400)
I have got the same A3-41 (€4700) and I found the same problems as you but not that much out like yours.
But still mine has the exact same problems as yours.
In the beginning the machine seemed to be set by the technician to the extreme just to work and by 2 months in started to show the problems. We tried to calibrate it but to no avail. Then the technician came again and said that it would be no problem to calibrate it but he took more than 7 hours fiddling with it. He said that it was good and left. Again after 1 month the tables got out of tolerances and the machine was performing badly with snipe happening 2/3 down the one meter long board.
We thought this was not normal and contacted Felder directly (not the supplier). The technician from Felder I spoke to was really nice and without hesitation offered me the change of the tables.
Now we're waiting for that but we're afraid because I read in your comments that German gentleman had the same problem and the jointer tables replacement haven't had any effect on the performance of A3-41.
We hope ours will be well, but very much doubt so.
You will find on my channel that I had problems with K3 Winner table saw and after some time and negotiation (8 months) directly with Felder I received Felder K700 and for now I can say I'm indeed satisfied with it. It works great and I hope it will last.
It seems Felder really screwed things in Hammer line production and their Felder and Format line are good machines (for now).
PS The table on N4400 had also a quite big dip in the middle of the cast iron table but the technician bent it to tolerances using shims.
Otherwise, that is the only Hammer machine that works fine from the beginning and the only one I could recommend. But, due to other problems my machines from Hammer line had I wouldn't recommend this one either.
Glad to hear your felder machine is working out. It doesn’t make sense to me with the price of hammer machines that we shouldn’t be able to expect a reasonable level of quality.

I had some problems with my tables when received my A3-41 a few years back. The flatness in the middle and end of the tables was fine. Near the cutter head the edges were curved up .006"-.008". It was actually curved up more than that but my one-way gauge stared to rest on the ramped section before it got to the edge. It looks like the tables were poorly supported along that thin edge when Felder machined them. I eventually got fed up not being able to adjust enough of the snipe out. I took the tables off and took them to a local grinding shop. It cost me $150 to have them flattened. Taking the tables off and on then aligning them was a pain but the machine is producing much better results. I am disappointed in Felder that I had to do all that work to bring the machine to the level it should have been when I received it.

I got my Hammer A3 41 about a month ago or should I say a Covid A3 41. Bed warps on all 2 of them. Not able to get acceptable alignment. Waiting for precision straight edge & depth gauge to arrive to do proper checks. I am also curious as to the SCM beds were for being true.

@@dwaynejohre7064 when I first received mine a jointed a face of a 20'' chunk of 2x4. after oooing and awing over how smooth and quiet the cutter head was and the quality of the cut i noticed the masive banana i just created from an already flat board i knew .008 and .012 was "a problem".
@@dwaynejohre7064 The thing is simple... you could find any fault with a machined surface and complain, but the truth is that a well set up machine will be perfect. I have a 15 year old A3 and never skipped a beat. BUT, I did get it set up correctly first. If there is a little dip in the table, you simply drop the infeed table edge by around the thickness of a piece of paper and you are gold. Proper setup = GOLD.
@@boncadenhorst Well Con, the biggest difference between your machine & 99% of the Hammer A3-4's sold 3 plus years ago, is that mine & the 1 in this video were built during the Covid Crap. These had concaves from ends to end & sides to side. This was on both tables. There is no making it "GOLD" with an adjustment the thickness of paper. I spent roughly 40 hours to prove to Felder rep that it was not able to be useable. Like this unit, mine has also been returned. so yes "Proper Setup = GOLD" but "Not Able To Setup = A CHUNK OF CASTIRON" aka "BOAT ANCHOR".
Wow! Just imagine what is going to happen to quality as all these manufactures rush to catch up on production from COVID down time and the crazy demands right now. Scary.

Was looking for reviews for a G 380 and stumbled on this video, was gonna purchase from the same dealer as well. My shop has casadei machines but my old dealer stopped selling them, might have to rethink my edgebander.
Im super happy with my combo machine. I did just get a Felder k500s though. i wanted to get a nova 400 from scm but dude to availability and wait times in our current world situation and being there was a Felder equivalent in stock i had to go for it. hopefully im not making another bitchy video in the coming days. Im sure itll be fine though.
Also, the front screws are course thread and the rear are fine thread. The outward adjustment screws are also not far enough outward. This is a major design flaw having to adjust these outward screws from the inward side to make the outward side move is dumb. I am an engineer that has to solve these types of design flaws all the time and this machine is riddled with problems. I would say if you want to take a chance buying the machine, go for it. If you want to be certain of not having a problem, buy another brand. If I was do it over again, I would not buy this machine.
I’m glad to have seen this. I was about to pull the trigger on an A3-41 based mostly on all the praise I’ve seen. Can’t go wrong, right? Guess I need to go back to my tried and true meticulous research and analysis. Gonna be a hot minute before I get one meow :/

I think Mike’s energy was great. He’s obviously not stoked about the machines tolerances and it shows.
I agree mine is also out on the infeed side at .006" bow in the middle from side to side. The length is out .003" on infeed and outfeed tables along the length, which is acceptable. I have probably put up to 40 hrs on this machine trying to get is set up and I'm still not happy. Felder is terrible and not responsive. I think they know this machine also has a major design flaw at the adjustment points. If you look at the front and back adjustment screws they are not square but more of a Parallelogram
Felder doesn't make good tables or castings period. They don't season their castings properly. The old makers left them out in the weather for at least two or three year's before machining them.
You can't get a feeler gauge under my Wadkin table's and that's with a two meter hardened and ground Moore and Wright heavy engineers straight edge, not some piss ant Lee Valley toy straight edge.
There is simply no way you can get truly accurate jointing or planing unless your beds are spot bollock flat and coplanar all the way.
Trust me, I've used a lot of jointers over the years.
Never ever pay for a machine until you've shit tested it with a straight edge. That includes the thicknesser bed too. Same with their panel saws. I guarantee you you won't get co planar out of their sliding tables at full extension. They sag. Badly.
This is very disappointing. I have a A3-31 and N4400 recieved in 2018. Luckily no issues. Lately I've been seeing quite a few reviews similar to yours. I'm extremely leery about buying another Hammer in the future. It takes so much time to build a reputation and barely any to ruin one.
I have had an A3 41 for three years (Silentpower, 3 phase) it works perfect, and have not needed any calibration yet whatsoever - Im a machine engineer professionally and a bit of a tolerancefreak - so they are not all bad.

Sounds like in the past 18 months their QC has dropped dramatically, older machines tend not to have anywhere near as much issues. Spoke to a guy who just took delivery of a new AD941 (the model up from this) and he is getting the entire machine replaced already. Pretty disappointing.

This video about sums up my experience with Felder. They are not the least interested in fixing things. Once you have paid all they do is talking and zero helping.
This was my experience also. Bought a Felder jointer planer and it's been a lot of trouble. With such an expensive machine you'd expect a lot more. And customer service is not good.

I've had the same experience with my dealer of Felder but once I have published the video Felder contacted me directly and I upgraded to better machine. Instead of K3 i have now K700 and I love it. I made some not do nice videos on this on my channel.
I recently took delivery of a Felder FB710 bandsaw, which was an absolute horror show of quality control issues. Welds so bad that the Felder sales guy quipped that his 6 year old child could do better, spatter all over the place, doors out of alignment, bent bedding plate (the part that holds the table and tilt mechanism), the main column of the saw was welded to the base/foot with so little care that it was out of alignment by 5mm across a width of 200mm.
These were all factory issues, not transport damage. Packaging wise, the saw was pristine when it arrived.
I have lots of photos if anyone is interested.
The only thing I will say is that Steve at Felder UK was amazing with his support, agreeing to give me a refund the next day, which was many days before they had collected the saw.
My regional rep Jamie is utterly useless though. Doesn’t respond to enquiries, knows nothing about the machines and generally doesn’t seem fussed.
I paid €800 for my J/P, which is likely less than the cost of one of the Felder tables, yet my tables are flat to 0.001 inch on the outfeed and 0.002 inch on the infeed. It's still a piece of crap, but at least the tables are flat. 😂

@@Maxime-ho9iv It works well. I had a warranty issue with the capacitors. They sent new parts and I installed them. It took about a half hour. They're communication could be better. Things are working fine so far.

@@chuckgrumble5440 Works great! I enjoy using it for the most part. Switching between jointer and thicknessing can become tedious if you have to do it frequently (e.g. you need to remake something) but other than that I enjoy using it.
I had a similar experience when I received my A3-41 machine 3 years ago. i was informed those were acceptable tolerances (I think it was up to 10,000ths was acceptable - could remember this wrong it was 3 years ago). Ended up paying a large setup fee for a machine that was expected to be setup out of the box. The setup was to ensure the beds were co-planner. They were not. Adjustment of the machine is not easy, lots of bolts and moving parts to get machine co-planner. The service technician took most of the day setting up my machine - he had lots of experience. He was a great person and free with information. When I call Felder service with the problems I have had with the machine they are responsive. My issue is why should I have to call so much on a machine I paid that much money for. I had been told this was a highly engineered top of the line machine. The price paid would've suggested so, but the tolerances and issues i have had would indicate the quality isn't as portrayed. I just ended up living with the bed flatness tolerances. The machine works well, but tends to go out of alignment and needs some type of adjustment every 6 to 8 months. I wouldn't expect that for the amount I paid. I will be interested in hearing your review of the new machine.

Your story exactly mirrors mine up to the word except mine needed adjustment after 2 months and then after 1month and now every 7 days. We have given up on it and we will upgrade to Felder AD741.
I've had issues with my table flatness in addition to other issues. My current new issue is that the rod end-like part that holds keeps the drive bar in place broke. I can't use the planer until it is fixed. This simple part is in the middle of the machine. I have to take everything apart to replace it. Then recalibrate the entire machine. I've had enough of this machine and calibrating it. Like others I have to calibrate my tables every couple of months and I don't even use my machine that heavily. I'm considering going with the Felder AD741 mainly because I might get a better trade in for a machine that needs repairs then selling it myself. Still looking into my options. The minimax fs 41e is one of those options I'm looking into. I wish there were more videos for it.
I'm not sure why the Hammer machines have such a following/glowing reports etc on forums.
I have an A3-31 an N4400 and my table saw is a Minimax SC4E ( was slightly cheaper in OZ than a fully specced K3 winner comfort ), the Minimax is in completely different realm to hammers.
Felder does clearly state that these are hobby machines, buying again I certainly wouldn't bother with them.
They had to of been good at some point I guess. For felder to have the reputation it does they just had to of been good. Regardless of the hobby title a machine that costs as much as they do they should at least be to a Serrano spec. You can buy a dewalt table saw for a couple hundred bucks and it
Does what it’s supposed to do and you get what you pay for and that should be the same with a $9000.00 dollar jointer/planer. Scm‘’S “hobby” machine is wicked good. I used it for a long time before upgrading to my FS41E.

I have Felder and SCM in my shop. I feel Felder/Hammer is for professional hobbyist/Artisan, where as SCM is for production. I recently upgraded my table saw to SCM L’Invincibile. This was after comparing with Felder’s “equivalent” the Kappa 590 and I was not convinced at all.
I was seriously thinking about a A3-41 for a hobby shop. Nope.

hello, I´m a cabinetmaker from Germany and I have bougt a Hammer too. the same machine with the same problems. When I´ve talked to the technician about these problems, he said it was normal . Then the tables were changed, but it really didn´t get much better either.I thought I am the only one with these problems or who sees them, if you want to work exactly, it is almost impossible, you have to invest so much time in the settings. I bought an old planing machine with absolutely smooth and straight tables, on which I will now change the ball bearings and then work with them .As I said, I'm really happy to have seen this video now, I was beginning to doubt myself, everyone else was just always full of praise for this machine - the silent power cutting head? on the machine is good, very, very smooth surfaces , but not this tables.Which machine have you bought now , wich company or brand? Your doors look good.In wich country are you? And sorry for my not very good english.

Before I bought the hammer all I saw was great reviews and flashy videos praising the machine. It was after and digging a little deeper I started to find the bad reviews. I’ve also noticed in the last few months there has been several more videos with similar complaints. After finally returning the machine at my own expense and after using my friends casedei pfs41 (an apparently inferior machine that came perfectly tuned) I decided to go with SCM minimax but go with there middle of the road option the FS 41E,It’s been a great machine and came well within spec. I’m going to do a video soon on it as there’s not much info out there.

Originally, SCM is probably an Italian company, but I have already found information on the internet that they are producing in India today, the machines from the 80s were probably very good, but I don't know how good they are today. In Germany we also have our own manufacturers, Martin etc. but they are as expensive as they are good. It would be like buying a Mercedes, you would first have to plan a lot of wood to be able to buy it :-)

As far as I know nobody got this machine for free, they actually purchased it like I did. I bought mine because of the review of Jay Bates but he also wasn't sponsored. He has no problems so far with his A3-41.

@@sethhamilton5824 They did not. That is really why I posted the video. I called and emailed felder and got no response. The dealer expected me to just have a machine that I couldn't use and didn't want to give me my money back. I think if I didn't buy it with a credit card and have buyer protection through the card I may not have gotten my money back not to mention I lost money on shipping and had to spend a day driving 4 hours to drop it off back at the store.

I’ve just received a brand new A3 41 and have similar issues. The beds aren’t co-planar nor are they close to flat which makes setup virtually impossible, the edge joint faces are aren’t acceptable as I’m unable to “clamp out” the gaps. Adjusting the beds to be co-planar is a nightmare as every time you tighten the adjusters they move out of adjustment. I waited 6 months to receive my A3 41 and K3winner. Neither are useable from the factory. I do t see why I should have to pay for a service technician to come to my hose just to make the machines useable. I also didn’t even receive all the parts for the K3.
So far my experience with felder/hammer has been nothing short of disappointing.

If I had more space i would love dedicated machine but for me the combo makes a lot of sense.
That cast iron, surface ground table, should be within 0.001" of flat on the total of the face! Any thing less is absolutely crap!

Those tables are like noodles. I can flex the end between the inner eccentric and the cutter by .005” with one finger. Ours also was not ground. Milled with an out of tram cutter that made the tables into half pipes with ramps towards the cutter. Luckily I have a cnc mill big enough to fit the tables. Just got done machining both. Joints like it should now. I’ll post a video once I edit it later.
it is milled... if you wanted surface ground, would it not be crazy expensive? and unless you're doing mad CNC engineering, is it that important? Every time a part is milled, the tension in the substrate then causes it to potentially twist. you then need to repeat this until you get it to 0.0000. Again, it is nice, but is it essential? the Format4 Dual has that and it is sweet... but it is almost 5x the price...

That's some serious bulls#$t right there. You can't get a 1 thou feeler under my Wadkin tables anywhere.
Felder is an unbelievably shonky machinery maker. The dealers are just as bad. I would never ever recommend Felder to anyone let alone their budget fudget Hammer brand. You'll get hammered all right. From behind, dry.

Dude, you need to get a serious machine. The new one will crap out soon enough, you can count on it.
Felder doesn't season their castings. They often start to wind after a few year's. By then your warranty won't be worth jack.
Lipstick doesn't make a pig in to a total babe and fancy paint job's don't make a Felder a quality machine unless you enjoy getting shafted.
