I’m a flight attendant and it’s possible that the pilots forgot to signal final descent to the FA’s which is why they didn’t make their landing preparations until gear down. It’s happened to me a couple of times before. Awesome trip report as always!
Glad to hear you liked our fare system, Hop. Spent a lot of time testing it ;) Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Doubletree since its reputation isn’t the best, but I was happy with it when we used it for Kumoricon.
7:12 You literally flew right across my neighborhood in Vancouver across the river from the airport! I can't wait for the train ride! Thanks Jacob. 7:53 Downtown Vancouver.
I think the FAA has made a new procedure before landing checks, I went on a Alaska airlines flight to the same city. Portland. And they walked through the cabin even when flaps were down, and went on the PA and said the bathrooms were locked. It was strange to me being a frequent flyer myself.
Can’t wait to see the Empire Builder trip! I’ll tell you the crew bases on the Empire Builder. Portland, Spokane (engineers only), Shelby, St. Cloud, and Chicago. Can you also do a Coast Starlight video LA to Seattle? The diner crew, sleeper and coach attendants on the Seattle section are from Seattle and the cafe attendant, sleeper and coach attendants on the Portland section are from Chicago.
Cute Parrot. Nice report and yes I am looking forward to the trip home on Amtrak. I love those trip reports. If ever I do get to come over to the US one day, that is something that I want to do as well as the Canadian Rocky mountaineer.
Double Tree by Hilton is a popular hotel.....and my fav every time I visit Portland... I stayed there about 500 times throughout the years... close to the mall and the Light rail is right there.....Portland, Oregon has one of the best transit systems in North America
STL Ex TWA hub and Headquarter. I used to connect thru STL from Miami to Peoria, Illinois ( 1984-86) and I miss those years when STL were super busy full of TWA all day and night from the DC-9 to the 747 and L-1011 Today STL is slowly growing back to be like those days but take awhile and hopefully American Airlines will returns “ hub” at STL
Before Southwest was TWA big hub and headquarters and I miss those days. I connected thru STL from Miami on my way to Peoria, Illinois dozen of times and remember flying TWA. Southwest Airlines stills growing at STL and hopefully matched all ex TWA schedules
Aww Ollie is cute! How long have you had him? I’ve always wanted to fly Southwest but haven’t had a chance yet. I have heard nothing but positive things about them. The voiceovers are a great idea and I think you should continue your videos this way.
LOL sounds nearly exactly like the trip I was going to do this week had it not been for CV19. The main difference was my flights were on AA. but i was going to fly Southwest from MDW to BWI
God it feels so weird seeing so many people in one area now that the “virus” is around. These airports and airplanes are all almost completely empty it’s completely nuts!
While I personally tend to avoid WN, I agree with your thoughts on the long-haul experience. If you play it right like you did (A group boarding in particular, a key move) - they're a very solid option.
I am so excited that you went to Portland! I live in Portland! And the light rail is called the MAX. I have been on it. I am 8 years old and a elevatorfan.
Great video. I Really enjoy your RUclips channel. I like how you did a voice over, I think it’s a great fit for airport videos where it can get loud. I look forward to your Empire Builder video!
EvanAviator Thanks for the feedback. I was trying to find a good balance between speed and how thorough I wanted to be. Seems I might have leaned a little too far toward speed this time based on what I’ve heard.
I did SWA on a 5 hour flight from BWI-SLC once and it looks like you had a better experience on a longer flight. If I'm being honest I felt underwhelmed and thought Delta does a better job on these longer routes. Great video and really like the voice overs!
At 9:25 you can see inside the engine? Certainly that’s not part of the reverse thrusters...or is it? Was it like that even after they turned the reverse thrusters off?
How long does it take to get from PDX to the part of Portland you were at? Never been there but I have been to Seattle and did the same exact thing with light rail from SeaTac to Downtown Seattle and it was about 30 minutes
*MONDAY JUNE 15 2020 10:10 PM CDT* As I scroll down through the comments, I can see YOU.. did not reply to ANY of your loyal viewers. I'm sure your loyal viewers were bothered by it and decided to bail on you. And THAT...is pretty sad dude. Shame on you!! Pretty sad.

I recognize everything in the Portland decent and after that. You were on the red line
Very good video. Nice and quick. Would’ve liked more airport shots, though.
EvanAviator Thanks for the feedback. I was trying to find a good balance between speed and how thorough I wanted to be. Seems I might have leaned a little too far toward speed this time based on what I’ve heard.

I love southwest. I usually fly from St. Louis to Florida and back
PDX is a super awesome airport.
At 9:25 you can see inside the engine? Certainly that’s not part of the reverse thrusters...or is it? Was it like that even after they turned the reverse thrusters off?
Have you ever run across Cpt Moonbeam at St Louis? He's a RUclips'er corporate pilot who flies out of the area quite often. He's a super nice guy.
What’s the music in your intro? I really like it
When will you post part 2
This was a pretty good video you got here Jacob
Is there a elevator in the airport?
Ollie should meet yellow bird and tinkle bird

southwest airlines transcon flights are longer than their flights from california to hawaii
How long does it take to get from PDX to the part of Portland you were at? Never been there but I have been to Seattle and did the same exact thing with light rail from SeaTac to Downtown Seattle and it was about 30 minutes
Vdub Productions Same, took about 30. Portland has one of the better light rail systems I’ve used.
