That seat recline was sad. Also no IFE makes for a rough ride. AA has SEVERAL A321T- class aircraft out of JFK to LAX every hour and a half, that aircraft is AMAZING. IFE in EVERY SEAT. Tons of leg room. 1st class service, business class service and a meal in Main Cabin. It's immaculate.
@@rsdc2695 I love this about Delta. AA made a bad choice getting rid of their IFE on domestic aircraft. All AAs 787-s have IFE at each seat and streaming to your own device for free too. HOWEVER, the Airbus 321 Transcon is a domestic aircraft every flight from JFK-LAX and JFK-SFO and some BOS-LAX have IFE at every seat and you can stream onto your own device. Plus the 33" pitch or more on all MC seats, and 10 1st class seats 20 Business class seats. All lie flat, with huge screens and Casper bedding. It's great on these aircraft
I'm sure there was a reason why they didn't serve their cart. At least they should've announce it so every is aware, but not to serve fluids over the 30K feet in the air is not a good idea because human get dehydrate so fast while in the air. I took Alaska to Hawaii and it was one of the best flight ever. BTW, I like the background songs.....play more of them :-) Great vlog again :-)
I've never once paid for an upgrade, and this video reassures me about my decision to do this. I always go with the cheapest fare possible to get me from point A to point B, but I'm sure glad when I get free upgrades.
Judging from the lack of service on this flight, the clear winner in my opinion, would be jetBlue. They really treat their customers well. If I were you, I'd stick with them from now on . Thanks for this very enlightening report.
I did the upgrade on a recent round trip flight to Seattle. On the way there, the flight was sold out, so it was nice to get a little legroom and space. Even though the seat comes with a complimentary cocktail, they don't make any effort to bring the offer to your attention, and it is hard to get excited about their very common beverages. I didn't know there was an upgraded snack on offer. I didn't see it either going or return. On the way back, almost a red eye, I did the upgrade again, but it was a waste of money since the flight was hardly full and I could have had any row to myself; pretty sure I had the entire premium area to myself. Again, the FA never offered the free beverage, but the first thing she did ask was if I wanted to buy some of their food for sale. So my theory is that the benefit is there only when the flight is full.
hi qman. great report. that take off was awesome! and yeah you'd think a cross country flight would have more than a cup of water, but oh well. thanks for taking me along!
No soft drinks offered or beer? No snack packs? That's a joke. You got ripped good. No service does not make any sense at all, sure, people are going to sleep a bit, however, everyone likes something to drink and maybe a snack. I would have given them a 0.
Give them a chance on a morning, afternoon, or evening flight. Service may be different. Although if true they should specify that red eye flight service may differ.
Almost every time I try and watch flight videos I get advertisements for Alaska Airlines, some of which advertise $119 fares for transcontinental flights. Oddly enough, they say “it’s time to get more” when they have the most stripped down accommodations aside from good legroom. If you really want to get more, fly on the 787-10 on United. I know you have Quintin.
Now you know why you were the only one in "Premium Class." I booked a flight on Alaska and they were charging $ 59 for premium class. I kept checking the seat map, no one was booking it. They lowered the price to $ 39. I booked it then. I'm now hoping to score First Class seats as the departure date gets closer since it's completely empty too.
I am not too familiar with Alaska's model, but given the price to upgrade was just $59 for a transcon flight, it shouldn't be too surprising that there wasn't service for a red eye flight. Those upgrades usually cost around $100 or more with airlines like Delta, and there's probably fine print somewhere saying they don't do service if the plane is scheduled to take off at a certain time (even if the headline says they offered more service).
Because of Alaska Air's lack of attention or care for the customer, I believe JetBlue may well take their business in all the routes they are competing in. I have flown Alaska Air since the 70's and tried to be loyal to the brand but not in recent years, I always look for flights with anybody else that can offer a better/comfortable experience in the cabin. I also rate an airline by the experience at the check-in and waiting areas; sometimes these areas can really give you an indication of how the rest of your flight will be. Alaska Air has lost their way in keeping current in offering the comfort and attention to detail they were so famous for not so many years ago. I am sadden by how they have deteriorated into a cattle car mentality model. Mooooooww! Nobody likes a cattle car atmosphere. Thanks for the videos; keep up the good work!
Just imagine how the Virgin America loyalists feel with the entertainment systems removed. And the Alaska loyalists are getting worse service too. The merger was probably a mistake, unless you’re on Wall Street.
On Redeye's, they don't serve at night cause when everyone's asleep, they wanna try to keep it down. I'd just grab something real quick before a Redeye Flight
Always JetBlue. The IFE is good and the legroom is massive! Also, free snacks and a little bar you can just pick snacks out of when you feel like it. Trust me, JetBlue is the way to fly!
Technically, the airplane departed on-time... "On-time" isn't based off of the time it lifts off the ground, it's based on door closure from the gate... So if you took off four minutes after the scheduled time, that means the airplane departed the gate early.
this Q re-view is made possible despite a lying f/a. it contains magnificent departure and arrival video, with a nap in between. So give it a view then hit the like and sub buttons. Well done Quebec Foxtrot Sierra and thanks for sharing!!!
Another skillful video! Totally agree that you were stiffed on that Premium Class upgrade: Apart from early boarding and some extra legroom, you flew in regular Economy. I'd be disappointed, if not pissed off. I'm a regular AS traveler and MileagePlan member. I would definitely make a customer service complaint. If passengers traveling that route during the day paid the $59 fee for Premium and got the full service (unlimited free alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, free snacks), then that fee ought to be half that for a red-eye where you get nothing. You should get exactly what the AS reservation system says you'll get. Unfortunately, Alaska's website and app can be pretty faulty sometimes. Shame on Alaska, and I hope you'll let the company know.
I once had an early morning flight from SF to LA on a Monday. While I was packing my bag late at night on Sunday, I tried to do a web checkin. Horror of horrors...the flight had been cancelled....and I had not been informed by any means. Had to hastily book another (much more expensive) flight with another airline because I really needed to make it to the 8 am meeting. Genuinely appalling customer service from AA.
This video was far more reasonable in terms of run time I would say in the future keep your trip reports around 15 minutes unless they are unique like the Alaska milk run report you did, which was excellent by the way.
Your temper is in better shape than mine--'Very disappointed' is not the phrase I'd have in mind,I'd be a bit more upfront with "Pissed off' or 'WTF'! How difficult is it to serve inflight snacks or those boxed packages? Granted,it was a redeye flight and maybe there is fine print about not having food service between X time--X time--I know other US airlines menus point out about not serving certain food items if the flight is less than say,3hrs or within certain early bird hours---did you file a complaint?
WOW man that totally sucks! Who expects a flight from one coast to another to be without alcohol?!?! SUPER lame, I don't care HOW late in the evening the flight was. I remember taking the red-eye Delta L1011 flight from SEA to ATL and not only were we served a meal at midnight ("snack" meal of a sandwich, crackers, cheese and a hot brownie) - they gave me two trays! AHHH back to the reality of today.
I flew with them from LAX to JFK. My plane was delayed for two hours. On the top of that since I book a tour and I was supposed be in New York before 11pm, I got charged 120 for the delay

Did you get your $59 back from A A?? I'm sure you deserve it; all people who flew that class on that trip deserve a refund. Also, why did the woman at the ticket gate know your name??? How does she know you???
You should get your $59 back. You basically flew economy and not the premium class service you were promised
That seat recline was sad. Also no IFE makes for a rough ride.

Numero Uno. You were robbed. I would complain to their customer service, but probably wouldn't do any good.
The FAs should've done service, even on a red-eye. I would contact the customer complaints department. Sorry about your bad experience!

Usually, Alaska is great. They're my favorite airline! Sorry to see you had a bad experience. No tomato juice again. You're going on a diet!
