This might be the best editing I've ever seen. So many separate clips, many of which are not from the movie, seamlessly and tightly coordinated with the music. The hidden wipe transitions, the way the motion of one character or object becomes the motion of another, the references to plot points and voice lines, it's SO good! This is edited far better than the actual movie was!
Jesus Christ what a way to recapture the original magic of Bionicle. It feels wrong not to have a new wave of sets being advertised while the song plays
Oh my god Gaze sounds almost exactly the same, that's impressive I just actually can't believe that a feat of this size was pulled off this long after Bionicle ended. The love persists. Not all the Chroniclers are silent.
that's because he's an actor, he's putting on a voice. There are TED talks where you can hear his normal speaking voice, I found that he actually sounds very fitting for Toa Vakama when he talks casually, very much like turaga vakama but with a more youthful energy
Indeed. There are some Chroniclers out there writing new stories and documenting history as it's made. For instance, I'm in the process of writing a Bionicle crossover fanfiction that takes place after the events of "Mask of Light". I've got a few scenes written out but I'm still deciding on a title.
I remember watching the directors commentary of Mask of Light and how the director praised Christopher Gaze's voice and how it suited Turaga Vakama. What a wonderful and distinct casting choice. Thank you Mr Gaze for voicing this, it is delightfully nostalgic, and well done to the editor and of course Essenger and Cryoshell. What a blessing to be part of this fandom, I love that we keep this ol' story alive!
Bionicle, at its core, is a story about everything you care about being dying or dead, and having been that way for a long time, but you still persevere. Honored to share the love for this franchise with you all.
@cathleenmoyle1476 The Toa fighting to reawaken Mata Nui, the Turaga watching over the Matoran after the fall of Metru Nui, the Matoran living their lives despite the powerful horrors of their world, the Glatorian fighting for survival, the Great Beings creating a way to repair their shattered planet. As above, so below.
Holy crap, I never looked at the story this way, but yes, _every chapter_ of Bionicle's story centered on people persevering in the shadow of some great loss. Mata Nui was a paradise that was actually a refuge for the amnesiac refugees of a once-glorious city now abandoned. Said city, Metru Nui, was itself given 6 new, inexperienced heroes trying their best to cope amidst the loss of their beloved Toa Mangai, as the city itself struggled to persevere even as its guiding intelligence fell asleep. Voya Nui and Mahri Nui were post apocalyptic lands struggling to carry on after a cataclysm did untold damage to their lands and broke them apart, both civilizations grieving for the loss of the other, having assumed them destroyed. Karda Nui is the chance for our greatest heroes to undo that original sin, and restart a dying universe. Bara Magna was where this theme was perhaps most obvious, being a wasteland resulting from the hubris of Great Beings, filled with resentful survivors ekeing their meager living in what remained of their world.
Never forget the words that launched Bionicle: Six Heroes, One Destiny. As for Mask of Light: "New legends awake but old lessons MUST be remembered. This is the way of the Bionicle." - Turaga Vakama
I hope you'll get Christopher Gaze to narrate the year of 2007 and the story of Matoro the true hero of the Bionicle Universe when that day comes on Bionicle Day
Our *Unity* makes us strong as the Toa. Honoring the BIONICLE Legends is our *Duty* Remembering the BIONICLE Legends is our *Destiny!* It shall forever pass on.
Thank you for this. I struggle with depression (and trauma) and sometimes it's too easy to forget what joy felt like, letting out tears or even feeling emotion at all. When the female vocals kicked in so many memories started rushing back in I broke down crying. Memories of feelings I forgot I once had. It made me feel alive again, as the little kid I used to be, reminded me that I'm not dead just yet. Thank you so much. I really needed this.
Essenger and Cryoshell hit it out of the park with this track, and I’m so pleased with how the music video turned out! Of course I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Christopher Gaze’s phenomenal narration; really does feel like a full circle moment working with an original performance having grown up with these movies. Been such a pleasure working with the 810 team on this!
It really highlights how important that scene was. The entire purpose of Teridax fighting Takanuva through a Kohli match was to mock him for thinking he was anything more than just a matoran, while in fact his origins as a matoran made him stronger and ultimately allowed Takanuva to win with his signature move from the tournament. This is also the key difference between him and the Toa Mata- they were never matoran, and thus he was the one needed and the only one capable of defeating Teridax. Such great storytelling and such great editing to bring that out.

Ever since the time before time, I have always remembered the 3 Virtues of the Great Spirit MataNui: Unity, Duty, and Destiny. This Chronicler will always remember, and will continue to wait until friends can gather again, once more. To this day, I still wish we could have gotten proper movies of the events before Mask of Light (arrival of the Toa and the Borok) and the events lore-wise taking place afterwards and up to and after Legend Reborn.
I about died when I heard Christopher Gaze's intro on the livestream. Incredible song, incredible music video. Great 20th anniversary surprise. I feel so old though.
If we take it in Bionicle retrospective, the song can be interpreted in many ways. For me, I see it as, in the point of view of The Great Spirit, the interpretation of what was going on the minds of Takanuva and Teridax. Of Takanuva, who just realised his Destiny as the 7th Toa but still looking for his reason of being one, his very own Duty. And of Teridax, who believes that it is his Destiny to be a God whilst making his own reasoning that it is his Duty to do so. All in all, this song goes hard.
Absolute beast of a recap/music video! The directing was perfect. All the scenes felt completely in sync with the song, and the transitions were very well thought out. Having Vakama's voice in it, as well as Cryoshell and Essenger, was the icing on the cake.
