Supercharger Install Ep. 3 - Fuel Pump Detailed Install (370Z/G37) + CJM Top Hat

- In this video I cover how to upgrade the fuel pump in a Nissan 370Z or Infiniti G37 to a 340LPH Aeromotive fuel pump. This upgrade is necessary for forced induction applications such as a supercharger or turbocharger. Installation of a 450LPH is partially covered but will require additional work to integrate a fuel filter/pressure regulator. A fuel return system is not covered in this video, but will be covered in another video in this series. I also install the CJM Top Hat.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a professional mechanic, work on your car at your own risk. Anyone looking to upgrade their fuel pump should be comfortable using basic power tools, soldering, and building connectors, as well as have a basic understanding of electronics.

It's refreshing to see someone modding their car the RIGHT WAY.. love the details in all your vids. Keep up the great work!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! My wiring was wrong and car ran horribly.
It now turns on and stays on but fuel gauge isn’t working still! Time to re watch the video
Excellent video! I am just replacing my pump with an oem, no mods, but the removal of the panel and pump is excellent. FYI, I put the fuel rail adapter on as well and figured that the gauge from the adapter is an easy way to relieve the pressure vs. pulling the fuse.......again, great video!
The only thing I'd like to add is that the boot you cut into to run the wire through the firewall is the boot for your ecu harness. I've done the same on my old HR 350Z years ago and the cut allowed water to get in and run down onto the ecu and trash it. So if you make a cut , be sure to seal it with rubber cement.
Next level instructions. WOW. Thanks man!!
If i install a walbro 255 do i gotta use the dremel to do the modification
Been waiting for this, keep up the vids and the hard work!👍🏻
You mentioned soldering, like the did you use a spool of solder? they get brittle over time due to vibrations from driving, any wiring repair I do i use crimp solders. Also great job with your modification, very thorough and detailed. Now I really want a return system when i get to that point
Thanks for the heads up on the solder joints. This is something I haven't thought about but also have not had any issue with 10 year old joints on the sentra. I may start using all crimp connectors though since they are easy to redo the wiring.
Is this the same process with the 535 hellcat pump?
Do you have a recommendation on drill size for drilling out the black plastic jet when installing a 255lph pump? Couldn't find the referenced support page.
Where did you connect the black wire coming from the float assembly
Is the 450 pump the same set up
I had an old CJM Road Race Pump installed. It installs on the driver's side. Now I'm trying to install the 340 Aeromotive... I have been at this for weeks (I only have a couple hours free here and there).
What a pain!
I'm still not clear on how this was setup.
I think I'm just being lazy. I was also a Biomedical Engineer - most of our courses were EE as well
thanks for the detailed video
Is there a reason u went from 450 back to 340 ? I’m really second guessing myself doing this after your video I have the 450
If your installing a 450 or higher do not cut the housing in half cut a hole in the bottom of the housing/bucket big enough for the bottom of the fuel pump and sock to stick out. the bucket acts basically as a well, because of how the lines are routed. The pump and the assembly are submerged in fuel anyway. Also if your going 450 or higher I would highly recommend the cjm top hat. because my oem top hat melted from the pump pos/neg because its to much current and needs larger gauged wires.
Im confused where the 12 gauge wire used? Aren't the wires on the pigtail included with the pump sufficient?
Yeah, 12 gauge wire I bought in spools was used for my custom box setup, however 12 gauge also comes with the relay kit and the fuel pump to use as well.
How did you rewire everything it’s hard to understand the wiring
1,2,3,4,5,6 . Wow that's the same combination I use for my luggage.
Thank you!
Anyone know where the fuel filter is located on a 2009 370Z?
🐐
Nice video
All this, but you didn't address the infamous fuel starvation in right side corners?
can tell someone tell me what the fuctions of each pin on the extior side like color wise cause it got me stumpted
Did you ever figure out what each color was?
Why did you ground the factory fuel pump ground wire? I just folded mine up and tucked it away.
It's probably not necessary, it would be easiest to just snip it and terminate the end.
@@thecarizon504 awesome yea I was maybe worried I should have but after thinking about it just wondering if there would be a good reason too lol btw your vids 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Should have connected the positive to your amp
thanks for the video bc i think my fuel pump is giving out on me
Great informative video!
Does your tank have to be empty to install
Just get it down below a quarter tank. The less gas, the less mess when taking the pump out
The Carizon okay cool. Overall how long did this take you? I neeed to get a second car . I want my z to be my hobby
It could be knocked out easily in maybe 2-4 hours depending on skill level.
The Carizon okay so that means 5-8 lol thanks . You would t need a tune after would you? Same thing applies to fuel injectors ?
@@dom_z3480 if your fuel pressure is roughly the same as factory (52psi at idle) then it should be fine. When you put in new fuel injectors, it will need a retune.
Did you already put the supercharger on? I'm having a hard time trying to look through videos of you installing it
Not yet, still have to do injectors, fuel return system, then i stalling the kit.
Have you thought of a engine swap, idk if your 370z can make that much even with turbos
@@itsagw7977 make that much?? a stock engine can handle about 600Whp lol
@@itssway5105 I didn't know you were a dyno tuner, or Carizon. but yes vq37 engines incapable of going over 500hp. stock or modified
ItsAGW bro, there’s COUNTLESS videos on YT that beg to differ lol but okay :)
i was completely following till the last 15 minutes of this video it got way wayy too confusing
Dont be scared its only a gas high! Lmao JK! Ventilation is key
I know how the youtube comments work and I'd like to ask you to please check the comments on your "My 370Z Mod List + What's Next?" video.
Apologies, sometimes I do nit receive notifications on comments. Responded.
@@thecarizon504 thanks
Ugh. You make this install not fun or interesting at all. Not that its suppose to be a "blast" to have this done but still. My 370 is still stock other than a cat back. Its a no on that Walbro 255 fuel pump upgrade for me now😑
U surely went to college to be a mechanic right bc there’s no way u can do all this without any knowledge not nocking u bro but I just don’t think that that’s possible lmao
I studied Electrical Engineering. I am self taught when it comes to cars.
@@thecarizon504 dang my guy. I didn’t mean that with no disrespect I love u channel bro I’m hoping to get my own 370z here in the near future and get it supercharged much love bro stay safe
