That d-dac was the last gasp for crown coach. The best school buses ever made. I drove a 1968 all the way through 1979 or 80. They built them to last. All the parts were right off the shelf at any heavy truck Department. They were so well-built that they put the company out of business
I cut open and dissect many of the filters that I change and I will not use Baldwin filters under any circumstances. Fleetguard and Donaldson are far superior filter that are built much better then competitors, wix filters are my third choice in a pinch. I have to pay for filter disposal and I am charged by the 55 gallon drum so it is cheaper for me to crush filters so I made a fixture that sits in my 80 ton hydraulic press and what I have found is the cheaper built filters crush down to a much smaller size then the fleetguard or wix.
Bus Grease Mountain I like. So I saw the video title. First thing came to mind when I saw Crown school bus. The older round style I used ride in in the 70’s. My oldest son called them the Twinki buses
You know I thought I saw a vapor trail coming of the front of that as it climbed the hill. The one that jets get around their wings when they are going super fast.
Addendum - The timing of this video and the Series II Crown Coach is strange indeed. Just hours after watching this video, a Series 1 Crown Coach with a 6L-71 and Allison sorta fell into my lap and I'm deciding whether to buy it. Just ironic the timing of all this.
School buses give me nightmares! I grew up with my dad owning fleet contracts. And I worked on many others buses from 4 counties around us. Prep for DOT inspection. Dad really isn't mechanical at all. From a crazy young age working on trucks and buses. Milk crates and cheater pipes were my life. Dad would keep me home from school to put head gaskets or an engine in a bus so it would make the afternoon route without renting one. Clutches in. Brakes. Would lay down at night and see those long driveshafts and exhaust pipes.
While not the 1973-'91 Crown SuperCoach (Series 1) with the midship under floor Cummins 855 engine and Eaton-Fuller 10-speed transmission I was hoping for, I like this one none the less with the rear mounted 6V92 and Allison. Sounds like the engine needs a little TLC as it took way to long to start and running rough. Definitely will be following this one as I love these California Crown Coaches. Looking at those tires, oh lordy I can't believe they drove that from California to Tennessee with those tires.
This is the first Crown that Scott has worked on, so let's see what he says about it. I also have a Crown Supercoach II like the one in this video, so if I ever make it across country I may stop by at Scott's for a checkup. I wonder what he'd think of a traditional Crown's pancake engine?
Before you come out, do a bit of a pre-inspection so you don't look like a negligent owner, like 99% of his customers. Put them down in a notebook as a sign of prior observation, rather than being completely, utterly, purely uninterested distracted owner. I'm serious. Tell Boudica what you did. She'd be proud of you.
@@silasmarner7586Don't worry, I'm about as far from an "uninterested distracted" owner as you'll ever find! I'm obsessive about my bus's maintenance, change my tires long before they crack, and otherwise keep on top of whatever needs to be done. I would hope that Scott wouldn't find much wrong with my bus; ABC Bus here recently gave it a clean bill of health. And you and I may be the only folk here who know about Boudica - yeah!
If he drives into Arizona with the bus painted yellow the paint should be changed to other than yellow. It is a vehicle code violation to have a "yellow bus other than school" Arizona revised statute 28-902. Might save some problem.
Too bad crown school busses weren’t popular in the Midwest… it would’ve been awesome to be driven to school in a Detroit 2 stroke instead of the fuel pincher
When I was a kid back in the late 70’s, we had a few Ward/International conventional styles with the load star front clips. The best thing was having the 6v-71 under the hood and a 4 speed Allison. Those buses were screamers! Super loud inside too. Our route included a few miles of 55 mph highway. They sounded so good!
Would you be interested in a free bus depot sign from the fifties or later from the Phoenix Greyhound bus depot? You arrange the transportation! It is about 72 inches by 18 inches. It reads bus depot and has no company names on it. It appears to be in good shape.
Another great video. Can't wait to see more about this school bus. I do have a question, what is the tent for down by the pad? I've seen it and I don't recall it ever being addressed. Is something under it or is someone staying in it?

Shouldn't it be broke bus mountain?
Subaru spelled backwards is You Are A Bus.
Love the new song now you know you've made it to the BIG TIME. 2 songs about you and yours fantastic. As always good luck and God Bless.
Said it before and I'll say it again. Love seeing Baldwin Filters on engines. There are no better.

Thanks for showing the good and bad of fixing the buses. Your shop looks busy. !!!
Instead of ‘Hey Lance’ it’ll be ‘Dammit, Bobby’ in Hank’s voice.
its funny seeing that style of bus waring the school bus color
my oldest brother at 65 still driving a bumblebee bus for school kids. well built. Thanks agin GM👋
I eventually want to get my hands on a 1980's crown supercoach tandem drive axle with the Cummins 855.
Holy crap that has to be the most expensive school bus ever made.
Love watching ur different types of Rv's
First the name
Second the legend
And now a famous landmark ...bus grease will soon be known throughout the land 😍😍
I don't see very often the 8 or 6 V92 , "'Silver" or "Gold" designation any more, has that gone away. Great videos by the way
All 2 smokers long gone away, I’d love to have a built 8V92 for an RV gear it for about 130, it’s possible lol.
Dammit Bobby, It's NOT Butt Grease Mountain!

Well it ain’t the more popular Twinkie model Crown but it is a Crown so bring on the videos!

Definitely one of the last of the Crowns. Will make for a nice coach once completed.

I still like that song.
Crown number one can't wait tell you fix a 10speed
Nice Supercoach-II. I personally prefer the styling of the original Supercoach, but the MkII is still cool.
Can you get him to say propane and propane accessories.
Amazing how such a large garage looks so small with two buses in it.
Looks even smaller with 3 buses in it
its not a tire its a hockey puck with a doughnut hole cut out of the middle lol
Love the new theme song!
I have never seen a school bus with a 6/71 Detroit before .
Aah the old Crowns, the only buses that are superior to pretty much anything else. Even the sheet metal used is a harder grade.

I see you were visited by Hank Hill today!! 😅
Tom has had us in stitches for the last week with his Hank Hill impersonations!
I tell you hwhat!

That law is only applicable to Arizona vehicles - not one from out of state.
are the window slides worn out.. as we all know how the school bus windows go up and down.. up and down .. up and down.
So what's the current curb weight vs when it was a bus and fully filled with students?
oh hell yes another super coach saved!
Firestone City Transport Radial. Not supposed to run those faster than 45mph unless they've been retreaded with highway tread.
keep the videos coming
Hello from Québec
Love the new song Bus Grease Mountain
It must be a regional thing, but I don't recall seeing many pusher school buses when growing up.
Same here. They were all front engine gas Fords and Internationals then the diesel Internationals later on
Crowns were a west coast thing for many years.
Some of the Crowns were mid-engine. The Detroits laid on their side.
It is a regional thing. Crowns & Gilligs dominated in California & other western states. Both brands were/are superior to most other makes.
is that an ex essential transportation crown.
How many young and impressionable minds were poisoned by the sweet sound of a GM hauling them? 😂
Love the music
Digging the new outro. Sounds like there's a little Charlie Daniels vibe in that thar song. 😀
Just noticed no backup lights.
Rare for me to see a Supercoach II.
Rare to see a Crown on this side of the Mississippi, period!
@@michigandon Yes! I'm in CA and see them a lot, but hardly ever that far East.
@@michigandon Yes! They're a rare bird on your side of the Mississippi, like a Gillig.
@@mndean5652 Older Gilligs, yes. Newer ones, not so much. Pretty much the entire GoRaleigh fleet here in NC is all Gilligs.

Not one but two songs👍
i've only seen crown school busses in california
Nothing scarier than a Bandag Retread!
The age of the tires can not be faulted to bandag. One of the tires was from 2008, that’s insane.

no back up indicator lights either
Y'all keep smokin' up like in the closing clip and you're gonna have a little girl with an accent yellin'' " how dare you!" At your gate.
Anyone else noticed the Flickr of the tail lights
If they are LEDs, that's the camera causing flicker
That is a late production Crown.
Sound's like another bad brake diaprahm on the schoool bus.....!
I presume that the school bus owner already knew the tires were junk and had already purchased the tires, right? SMH

Have you ever had a bus not make it to the top of the hill
Tires def bad. Started way too hard
40° f it started better than i expected
