Thanks for making these Seth! I passed my PPL 3 weeks ago. My DPE was very happy of my level of knowledge of the ACS. I also have the ACE guide which it’s a huge help for studying! Again thanks for creating this content!!!!!
Yes, another video dropped by Seth! And my Checkride is in about two weeks. I finally got one scheduled. That’s awesome that an electronically prepared navlog is acceptable with explanation. I need to print out this new rule and/or ask the DPE about it beforehand.
I thought I knew enough of ForeFlight for Checkride purpose, I was wrong. Here are 2 examples, I did not know I did not set up aircrafts performance profile; I did not know there is an EFB Preflight checklist. Thank you for this invaluable lesson!!!

Thanks for all your info. BTW....Can you come to Denver? LOL. We have a MAJOR DPE shortage. I'm strugging to get a checkride date with one.
I would always pack after you send it to flights. The reason is for alternate planning. You can only add an alternate airport in Flights. Packing before you add the alternate would mean you miss those NOTAMS and weather. I'd love to come to Denver if I can ever free some time up! It's been busy everywhere. Hi Seth. I’m hoping you can clarify my confusion on this. I just had my stage 4 check ride with the owner of the flight school in preparation for my PPL check ride. He wouldn’t let me use Foreflight, and to my surprise asked me to do 30 degree turns in slow flight, and then had me retract the flaps to climb in slow flight. My CFI never had me perform slow flight maneuvers like that and told me that a DPE would not approve of, or have me doing either in a check ride. My CFI told me the applicant is only supposed to demonstrate both standard rate turns and climbing/descending in a full landing configuration for slow flight. Which is the correct?
It sounds like he was just giving you some challenges. Technically none of those things are prohibited so they would be fair game during a checkride. Having mastery of the aircraft means you should be able to operate the aircraft within the normal envelope in all configurations.
I find it kind of amusing that the standards concurrently convey: "An Electronic Flight Bag; why sure, they are pretty usual equipment, and if you have one with you anyway, you are welcome to use it - in fact it may be a good idea to use one. Tell us more about how you use your EFB." and also "A VOR receiver; that is some fancy equipment you got there - you won't need that - that would be cheating!". But, then, at 41:25, you allow a strategy involving DME. So maybe it is just that you cannot use the navaids as flight plan waypoints because they are often difficult to navigate to using pilotage and dead reckoning?
Good question. Maybe I was a little unclear when I was explaining it. Basically, I have to test two separate things when it comes to navigation. One distinct form of navigation is Pilotage and Dead Reckoning. In order to evaluate that form of navigation, I cannot allow you to use GPS or other navigational aids. You must demonstrate that you can fly precomputed headings and times and reach visual checkpoints. The second form of navigation I have to evaluate is on-board navigational equipment like GPS and VORs. These navigational aids are important as well and must be evaluated in their use, just not at the same time that pilotage and dead reckoning are being used. Using a VOR to identify where the airspace is could be done independently of your pilotage since your primary means of navigation is using the precomputed heading (DR) and staying north of the railroad tracks (pilotage).
The foreflight navlogs are good...for the calculations. I always write down the foreflight info onto a paper navlog. Biggest issue with the foreflight version is that I can't rename the coordinate version of each checkpoint. Makes it additional work to quickly identify the leg I'm on.

Send feedback into ForeFlight. I think they should add an empty 'name' field as well as an empty field for magnetic deviation.
