Please keep making these! I love the podcast format. being able to listen to and, essentially, study aviation while driving, working, cleaning, etc. is extremely valuable when trying to become a pilot with a young daughter, work, and extremely busy schedule. Thank you!
Hi Seth, I just purchased your book , I and want to say thank you for your contribution to aviation industry! I am a new CFI , will to help my students reach their goals! I hope you can create a video for the new CFI about how to start this job in a good way ! I really want have some good advices from you! Best wishes.
This is great. Learning about necessary aviation knowledge can be intimidating and overwhelming. But, it should also be something to enjoy. Watching these videos peaks my curiosity and makes me want to continue to learn more. Your videos are well broken down and explained. These videos get me more excited to start training for my PPL this year. Thanks Seth. Keep it up.
These videos are so great! As a private pilot student, the ACS is a hard study to avoid wrote memorization for me and turning these on in the background or at work is so so helpful in retaining the information and understanding each part. Keep up the great work and thank you for making our checkrides less daunting👍
Found you after listening to your interview on the Pilot to Pilot podcast. I've just started flight training and your videos have been nothing short of immensely helpful to me in understanding not just the information provided but how it should be utilized & interpreted. Looking forward to more of these Student Pilot ACS guides - thank you!
Seth nice stuff! I used to listen to you in 2022 when I thought about becoming a private pilot and all these things you said couldn’t make any sense to me by then , but I soloed last evening and my second time listening to this now it makes allot of sense, I’m getting ready for my check-ride! Good stuff man keep up
Didn't use a single acronym or mnemonic. Few things were memorized from repetition though because I was afraid of failure. Felt easier than expected, but the DPE focused hard on XC flying and planning, which I felt pretty good at since I spent HOURS planning the check ride scenario all by pencil and paper 😂 Flying portion was pretty well scenario based too.
This content is great and really helpful. I also just picked up the ACE guide. Looking forward to the next episode and hope they’re all out before I have my check ride 😄
Great job again Seth. Happy once again that not only do I hear all the same information from you that I mention in my own podcast, but also a lot of things you phrase or present the same way I do, so that’s encouraging! One thing I personally have never been completely clear on is State registrations. Do all states require registrations and are they all valid the same time length? Or is it different state to state?
I do have the entire ACS done for PPL, this is just a refresher. Checkout my earlier videos or the PPL playlist. This series will be much more in depth though. Next video should be out sometime this month.
Join your FSDOs FAASTeam. It's a great way to network in aviation and get some volunteer hours in your resume. Talk to local pilots at nearby FBOs. There are a lot of empty right seats and you won't know about them unless you ask around. Start offering WINGs flights for local pilots to help them stay proficient. You can get a lot of good experience in different aircraft types and meet new owner/operators this way. It's a great way to get you foot in the door for more flying and instruction opportunities. Join a type club. Beechcraft and Cirrus have the two best in my opinion. These are great ways to network and specialize in aircraft that offer valuable hours and experience and often open doors to more advanced aircraft.
My mistake. Airworthiness must be displayed. Registration must be onboard. Most plane have the registration right behind or beside the airworthiness certificate.
There isn't any guidance on what you can and cannot use during your oral exam. If you choose to use it, I would make sure to ask your examiner if they have any objections. Typically we don't really care what you use for reference. However, if you have an over reliance on any study aid it might indicate your knowledge isn't where it should be so the use of any study aid should be limited.
You should make a paid course going over the full acs; I’d pay money for that. It’s one thing to run through kings or sportys, but they don’t touch this stuff more than a few basic mentions. Looking forward to getting your ACE guide this week, but damn would I shell out for a full acs explained. Edits due to voice to text at work.
I'm currently prepping for a check ride, and did an impromptu mock oral with a senior CFI at my school yesterday. I got absolutely pulverized, so it's back to the grind! I found your channel today and am devouring what you've posted. Serendipity? I think so! Can't wait for part 3!
Best of luck in your studies! Check out my older Private Pilot videos as well. While they are a bit older they still have good info. I also have all this on Podcast format if you'd rather just listen. Thanks for the feedback!
Great private pilot info thank you Seth! One question - any recommendations on a digital log book? Do you recommend the one inside of ForeFlight? I purchased a copy of your ACE guide and am using it to study for my checkride. I also love your ForeFlight videos - I’ve used them to prepare the document library as well as adding a custom checklist - PAVE. You definitely have made me feel better prepared as a pilot, not just for one checkride but every ride. Thank you!
I learnt your channel through Free Pilot Training channel, and I purchased the VSL ACE Guide. I guess showing up in other youtuber's channels will help promote your channel. Keep the good contents coming! 🙂
Hi Seth. Great vidoes - learned a lot! Would you be able to advice - I was not told about a failed manouver up (shot field take off which i started with) until the end of my checkride - isn't the examier required to notify me and give me an option to continue or not? I Have flew over 2h that day.
Great video, especially regarding the complexities involved in determining an AC's airworthiness and that it’s not just ATOMATOFLAMES. I’d like to add: my TCDS for the Grumman AA5 specifies certain placards. Was good to find that out before I flew it 500NM for a chekcride 😂
Hey Seth! I love these videos and purchased the VSL ACE GUIDE. It’s a great resource and your videos are a perfect study companion. When are you coming out with Part 3?

Outstanding series! Do you have a timeline for when the remainders may be released?
Not really. I just work on the videos when I have time.

Hey Seth, is it required to document preventative maintenance in your aircraft logbook?
Yes. Any preventative maintenance you do as a owner/pilot should be signed off by you in the logbook with your name and certificate number.

During check ride for PPL, is rolling take off acceptable?
It depends.

There isn't anything that gives a time limit on when they have to notify you. Don't worry about the disapproval, just get it cleaned up and move on.
