    Your videos are VERY helpful. Now I just need to man up, get started and trust that I can actually put everything back together properly in the end. Last time I chickened out before I even got started (who in their right mind would put a screw that far down and expect people to be able to reach it?!). Anyway: thanks for sharing these!

      Hahaha! Am I assuming you are referring to the screw in the back of the radiator? F*** that stupid screw I hate that thing. Assuming it isn't your main car it's hard to really mess up the job to a point that isn't repairable. Good luck with the removal and replacement!

    Very useful video Cole, I’ve got a timing chain cover oil leak, so I need the radiator off first. 🤞👍

    I have a 1996 mini and wondering what’s the best way to remove and reinstall the radiator lower drain. Also does it have a gasket that should be replaced?

    @TheUltimateRanger89 7 лет назад +1

    @10:00 in Australia we cap that hole in the right hand side of the grill area that lets air into the wheel well and bypass the radiator

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  7 лет назад

      Oh yeah the mk1's didn't have that as far as I know. How do you get fresh air into your cabin if you block that though?

      Fresh air? The windows i guess i dont have a heater, so no fresh air ducting

    Hey would you know how to remove the crankshaft pulley in the car. There is a bracket in the way that holds the radiator cowling and is attached and bolted to the sub frame. Can that be removed easily

    Your videos are really high quality! You are doing god's work sir!
    As a suggestion for a video: Could you consider providing some adivce for switching to coil over suspension from the wet suspension? I noticed that on a couple of your cars you have what appears to be new front/rear subframes with coilovers. How did you take your mini from having wet/cones to having a modern suspension? How long did it take and about how much money does it cost? Thanks so much!

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  7 лет назад +1

      Hey thanks for the kind words! I don't have coilovers on any of the cars I work on regularly. I think you might be mixing up coilovers with simply a set of newer shock absorbers. Coilovers actually have the spring coil wrapped around the shock absorber itself. This is a large swap over and would require entirely new subframes. Some folks do a cone ---> spring conversion. The cone on these cars acts as the springing mechanism. So they sell actual coiled springs to replace the cones. I have never done this conversion though. It's a super straight forward process (remove cones put springs in place) but there is a lot to be considered. I would check out theminiforum.co.uk they have some great discussion on that conversion. Hope this helps but if you have more questions feel free to shoot them my way.

    Hey nice video. Can you make a video how to replace the rear spreakers in mini cooper? And a video how to to replace the gas cap to a lockable cap? Tryed to search it but cant find any video

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  7 лет назад +1

      The rear speakers is something that isn't super broad across the mini world since lots of minis were made without radios. I will add it to the list but I won't make any promises on that one. I could probably do a quick video on the gas cap sometime though. :-)

    • @LFSDataBase
      @LFSDataBase 7 лет назад

      thanks. i think its heating up the gas cap a bit and then just spin it but its very tight. so i tryed to search for an video but i can't find 1. and because you just posted a new video i did comment here :-) about the speakers i could cut the cable, put new speakers in and then make a plug head on the cable and connect it i guess

      Easiest: find someone with small hands and make them do it. 😂

    The hot water for the heater does not come from the bottom hose, that is the return from the heater. The hot water comes from the cylinder head via the control valve.
    If you are going to add an expansion tank you need to think about how water from the tank can be sucked back into the radiator; with the standard pressure cap it can't as the water can pass out of the radiator under pressure but it's a one-way trip. If you use an expansion tank then either the radiator needs a flat cap and the pressure cap must be transferred to the expansion tank or you must use a special pressure cap which has a small valve working the opposite way so as to allow water back into the radiator.
    Did you change the bypass hose while you were down there?

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  7 лет назад

      That's not correct. The bottom hose is the return from both the heater and the block/cyl head. The heater's coolant does come from the take off on the top of the cyl head on the left side video a manual valve. Regarding the expansion tank, you are right I will need to change the cap to mount something like that. I decided I probably will not be creating an overflow right now though. Don't really want to drill something in the bulkhead and I don't want anything just sitting in the bay not properly mounted.

    Hey man! I have a quick question about the yellow fan. I think I have mine in the wrong direction (few people in different videos sad that there is a wrong way). Is yours facing the correct way? Do I have to take out the radiator to flip mine? Your videos are great keep it up:)

    How did you get the back nut screwed into the lowest radiator bracket (that screws into the bottom part of the 2 piece cowl). It's impossible!! Also did you screw those nuts in without a rubber grommet as mine do not have any but I'm aware of the small gap that's left after they're screwed in. - Tony

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  7 лет назад

      It's literally one of the most frustrating screws on the entire car. If you loosen the engine mount on the top attached to firewall you potentially can wiggle motor to get back there. Otherwise it's just a TON of swearing and wiggling. Regarding the rubber grommets; the screws at the top of the bracket or the same screws on the two piece cowl?

    • @tonypennoyer8214
      @tonypennoyer8214 7 лет назад +1

      Quite a bit of swearing! Is that engine mount on the left side of the engine, the dog bone mount? Yes, the same nuts that attach the bottom cowl piece to the engine.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  7 лет назад

      Yes, the dog bone mount is the one I was referring to. My radiator and cowl didn't have any rubber grommets on them I just have a bolt and a normal washer.

    • @TheMDHoover
      @TheMDHoover 6 лет назад +1

      You swear,, find the nut under the car, try again. Drop it, swear, turn your wheels to the right and use the force to extract it from the radiator holes, try again. Swear, go have a beer, contemplate leaving it off, then try again the next day.

    I am trying to remove the radiator from my 1964 Mini. I have removed the hoses and most of the fasteners except the two tha hold the bottom bracket to the front motor mount. You didn't give any details in the video. I am having a hell of a time trying to loosen those two bolts. I think they are 1/2" bolts is that correct? What type of wrench did you use? I have the front d/s wheel off and can look through the access hole and I have the grill off also.I have been working on this for over a week. I get frustrated at every turn and walk away. I need to finish this job as soon as possible any hint on procedure ans tools would be greatly appreciated.

    @Classic Mini DIY Im guessing this works with a 2 core or 3 core radiator as well or will the mounts be differnt?

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  7 лет назад +1

      Yes the idea is generally the same. On early cars with the built in shroud on the body some larger radiators will not fit but if you are just removing to service or something of that nature the steps are virtually the same.

  • @Live1052
    @Live1052 6 лет назад

    Thanks for the video. Don't mind me saying though, but you really overcomplicated the job. I left the top mount on the rad, left the shroud on and took off the top hose, removed the bottom cross bolt (easier with grille off), lifted the rad away from the fan and up, removed the bottom hose, then was able to take the shroud off with it out of the car.

    • @TheMDHoover
      @TheMDHoover 6 лет назад

      You must have room. With a 1275 in an Australian 74 clubman there is no room to get the rad off with the bottom shroud attached with the fan in place, and not enough room to extract the fan bolts with the radiator in place. Getting the rad out is the easy part... getting it back in, attached properly to the bottom shroud, not so much.

    • @Live1052
      @Live1052 6 лет назад

      Clubman may well be different actually. I never twigged that it was a clubman you were working on.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  6 лет назад

      The early cars actually have a hard metal shroud that is part of the body. The later cars are much easier to mount and position the radiator. So Ross you are correct there are much easier ways on later vehicles.
