Awesome! I had saved this video two years ago and only just now watching it! Had I watched it two years ago I wouldn't have had a clue what you were talking about but now that I'm familiar with Illustrator it all made perfect sense - great tip on how to measure that gusset panel!
I was sewing bags too and making my patterns with corel draw (i have illustrator but corel much easier to me). I was having hard time making the length of the pieces with curved corners. you saved my day. thank you so so much.
Awesome man, I'm in teaching for 10 years, before that i was a designer, just now i thought why dont we create tailoring pattern in illustrator and find you. really awesome work.
I'd love to see the rest of the process! Like everything from cutting it out, pasting it on his manilla, and then fabric layout and actually sewing it!
Wow! Thanks, Steve! I've been hand-drafting gig bag patterns (and more recently, "regular" bags) for 6 years and am just now starting to teach bagmaking and trying to learn how to do my designs in Illustrator!! So helpful!
Absolutely bloomin’ freakin TASTIC! Thank you SEW much from the depths of my being! I am LOVING Illustrator and will be pumping out all my sewing patterns now! Woohooo! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mehn Bro... This is great... I really appreciate the time you Put in for this vidoe, making a master class tutorial.... Good Job bro... Again.... Highly appreciative
Did this is awesome. I've been wanting to get into pattern design for leather work and this is exactly what I was looking for. It also takes some fo the mystery out of how the current bag templates I buy line up the curves to the exactly lengths they need to be. Thanks for this video!
I really enjoyed this thanks. I use many of the same align/distribute commands for distributing graphics on geologic maps, cool! I just started making small pouches and bags but the goal someday is to be able to make backpacks for me and my kids.
Hello Steve. This is so helpful for me. I have been looking everywhere on how to make bag patterns on AI. THANK YOU! My only question is how to make it into the size of A4 so my customers can print it at their home printer? I did see your video on how to print at home but Id like to know how to do that on AI. AGAIN, THANK YOU!!
Thank you for this great video. I made a pattern for a hip-pack in Illustrator and I made sure the length of the joining edges are equal, but when I ofset the lines of the pattern pieces to create seam allowances, the length of the edges that should join now sometimes don’t match anymore. Should I match the length of the sewing lines, or the length of the outside edges. Thanks for your help!
Love this video, can you tell me what type of workspace setting this is as I do t seem to have the same layout as you ie with the appearance tab etc...
@@BagBuff well yes but before it was on a bit of paper and it changed along the way when it all didn't fit properly, but now after this video I can be confident that things fit together better and go from head design to fabric more seamlessly
Excellent video. A question: And if I want to make sewing stitches, to sew by hand, as I do to make them fit perfectly hole by hole. The top side panel, with the back panel and the front panel? It can?
Hi Steve great tutorial. I am new to leather work and not even made my own pattern yet. I am busy looking around what program to use - Adobe, CAD or i see some guys use Sketchup. I take it that you would recommend Adobe? I do so little design work, i am actually looking for a free download. Many thanks, keep up the good work
Hi. I was wondering if you used a book on Adobe illustrator, because I would like to get it, or if you just played around with the different functions because you make it look so easy!!! When it most likely is not. Thank you so much.
First i want to say thank you very much for your video so i am just starting to learn about this stuff. as i know a litte bit Illustrator. I wonder how to print the pattern out with exactly the size like i want to, a bit stupid but yeah i absolutely have no know idea but yes will be lovely if you can make a video to show us, like how to prin from a letter and print out the body size so we can sew it :v thank you so much Admire from Vietnam
Hey Deanna! They should have a large format printer that prints 36" wide paper. When I email them I always say "Please print on large format printer with 36" paper". I've not had an issue, but I've only used my local Kinkos. I am not sure if all of them have the same machines. Let me know if you have any issues!
Hi, great video! Loved it! I have a question though regarding the bottom side and pocket panels. Shouldn’t the padding be on the pocket panel since the bottom side panel will cover it? Rather than having the padding on the outer layer ? Thanks
Can you please sell me a detailed video on which tools to use?? I need to start making my own patterns. But I need to learn the tools clearly. Let me know how to contact you. Another thing is that I need to hand draft and then sharpen them in illustrator.
I have a question... I need someone to make a digital pattern to get a sample made. but my production place is saying it'll be 200-300 bucks just for the pattern alone. how can i work around this? i obviously need but i thought i could outsource this smaller task to someone else. but finding people who make digital patterns is actually quite difficult, which im surprised by. anyone got a clue?
@@BagBuff that was a perfect explanation. I didn't know what it would be called in illustrator but now I know. You have been very helpful and prompt in your responses to me... Greatly appreciated!
Hey! Anyone here able to recommend a handbag design course or channel or fashion program? I draw but know very little about the technical design of handbags... I'd appreciate any input! Thanks!!!!
Hi Stephen, I am looking to hire someone who can create a pattern for me for a medical bag. I have a specific one in mind. Do you do anything like that, and if so what would be the charge? Or if you don't, do you have any suggestions to lead me in the right direction? Thank you so much!
If I have a pattern that I have drawn on paper and I want to convert it using adobe illustrator how would I know what my radius is so that I could translate that into my digital pattern?
dude, you should start a full fledge channel about bag making. I'd be all about it!

Sewing lines, always!
Dude.... you just fucking changed my life with that line length info box........ what..... the.... heck!
Thank you for the informative video!! I would like to ask you . How do you know the measurement is accurate and fit well to sew a bag???
Great video!
I'd love to see how you could take a semi-complicated bag, measure it and then create a template to recreate it yourself!
Nice project
I needed this
Fabulous and very helpful. One question, probably a stupid one. Does the printer on the other end know from the file the size to make the print?
Hi Steve, thanks for the tutorial. What does it take for you to make my patterns for me?
Love this video, can you tell me what type of workspace setting this is as I do t seem to have the same layout as you ie with the appearance tab etc...

Excellent video.

You could use “blend” to automatically mark out all the stitch marks along a path!

You can put the padding wherever you want. It’s your design! Most bags don’t pad them side pockets though.

Great video. It's weird to hear you swallowing. Great video.
I really believe this is a great video, but after 8 minutes and all those swallowing sound I had to stop.
I knew somebody had to say something. Great video! I just couldn't take the swallowing. It's the only reason I looked in the comments.
please stop using inches)))) use millimeters )))
I use metric as well. But most people watching this video are using inches.
