In her early years, you can really hear the soul/gospel influences because her voice was much more raw than in later years. She did a lot of experimentation with her voice in the early years. She refined her voice and overall sound in much later years, I think Music box is around when she started to. I kinda wish she kept singing this way though because this is he most natural tone.

The fact that this is a voice that has had nodules for many years makes it even more incredible. The changes of tone weight and vocal styles make Mariah's voice even more interesting
