I watched a tutorial before yours and the woman sewed a straight stitch straight across the first 3 rows and then across again in a cross so that she didn't have to do the super tiny first few rounds. It kept everything together so well
Just found you - do people always ask you if you're drunk? I mean this in a VERY GOOD WAY. I can never seem to stop laughing, and don't even drink at ALL, and people still think I am drunk. It is great to see enjoyment in your life, and your ability to share it with others - that is the key. Happiness IS contagious! I have been a quilter for a LONG time, and got into making jelly roll rugs from my scraps (in lieu of purchasing the "rolls" precut). I LOVE these bowls, and the colored craft rope is on my list the next time I go to the store, Thanks so much for sharing =)
At last a video that actually tells you the size of the cords yayayaya been looking at videos for four hours, no one talked about the size which is all I wanted to know. Thank you so much. Just had to subscribe, awesome video. Looking forward to checking out you channel to see other projects etc cheers.
Greetings from the Philippines💖 🇵🇭Wow❣️, I stumbled upon your channel and I can't help but feel inspired. Most of sewing channels are of women sewing, and I am a guy who wants to sew. So seeing this channel made me feel inspired. Im so glad I found this channel. I haven't had the chance to buy my own sewing machine yet but I'm getting there. I've been saving up for the past years but money is tight and I want to help my parents cover some of my school fees so all the money went into grad fees and school stuff. I've seen some of your videos and they are really helpful✨ not only that but all the laughing and positivity is cantagious💫💝. I'm looking forward to see more videos from you. God bless you sir! More power to your channel.💛💛💛
I have watched a few videos on how to made rope bowls and you were the only one that mentioned the direction in which to sew. I started my first bowl before watching your video and had to abandon it because I rolled the bowl in the wrong direction and had no room to shape the sides. Thank goodness it was just a small base. So thank you
You are a hoot!!! I made fabric bowls 10 yrs ago and never thought I would again. I lost my book so I found your video. I guess they are back again as my quilt store actually has a class. After watching your video I'm going to revisit the fabric bowl. I love the way you use occasional fabric. Nice touch. Thanks
Made lots of these for home, gifts and to sell. Here is a hint for beginning them. Roll several rounds at the bottom like you showed except after you put your pin it sew from on direction in a straight stitch straight across. Then pull out pin. Now do the same from other side. I use matching thread so stiching doesn't show. This will hold your bowl together tightly while you go back and zig zag it. It is a total life changer in making these bowls.
My son (Ben, 6) and I just watched your video together and we loved it! We especially loved your enthusiasm and he says you laugh like his sister (8). He's right!! Xoxox
Ps. Ben loves your t-shirt! He's a huge Bob Ross fan.
When my day isn't going so well, I LOVE watching your videos. Your happiness and positivity makes my day!!
Great bowls and useful tips. Thank you for sharing with us. Love your choice of Big Musical Production. The music adds to the drama of watching the bowl creation grow and grow.
I literally have been wanting to make rope bowls. I tried to take a class but I was on a waiting list at the paducah quilt fair. 3 years later found a local class. Really enjoyed it.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen one of your tutorials. 😂 You’re a hoot! 😂 Your bowls are beautiful, but you are so fun to listen to. Thank you.
7 minutes in and I already subscribed because of your silliness. I love your energy ✨ 😌.
Oh my god !!! Bloody genius , #MrDomestic using any ol scrap no matter how it is cut as long as it's a strip just blew me away. I have wasted so much time being concerned with straight strips . Thank you so much .xxxx
You know what I’ll be making next now right? These awesome bowls. I’ve made my jelly roll rug and it’s so pretty. Thank you for always make me wanna make stuff. You inspire me to always want to create. You are such an fun fun person to listen to.
I have ordered 300 metres of cotton sash cord @ 6mm so when I can pick up at kerbside I will be sooo busy making baskets or bowls ha ha and using my batik jelly roll fabric I bought on 50% off bargain. I will continue to mark time knitting socks 🧦 before my coil work is available.
I glued the starting circle with fabric glue holding together with clamps until dried, about 3 to 4 minutes. I had no problem, it laid flat and sewed beautifully.
I watched a tutorial where she wrapped around about 5 rounds and then penned it with 2 pens at right angles and stitched a straight stitch across one way and then the other way, making a cross in the middle. It worked really well.
I made one this afternoon. What a fun project. It holds our remotes.
I will support a local artist at a farmers market lol... and fully appreciate the time and patience... im better off in the garden 😋
Omg! I love your fun laughter! Your vibe is contagious… love the bowl as well. 🦋
I’ve seen many variations of rope bowls, and love them all. I especially like how you chose different colored cotton rope and added small amounts of fabric. The variegated purple thread looked great too. I always smile when I watch your videos 😁
I made one! I decided to sew the fabric strips together and cover the rope before I started to sew. I’m all thumbs and couldn’t seem to do all those maneuvers at the same time! After the cording was covered, it was so easy sewing it while I watched your video! I love you, ❤️!
That’s what I’m wondering, if it’s easier to sew the bowls with wrapped cord?
Your positivity and laugh are so contagious!! Love it!!
No it isn't the laugh is that of a nut gay
Suggestion, if you use plain cotton rope and thread, you can use Rit Dye and a crockpot to dye your bowl.
Love your joy and enthusiasm. Thanks for making sewing fun
Just found you. Love that you laugh at yourself. Jan Australia
It's the laugh for me. Just came across your channel and I think it's fantastic. Will be watching more. Thanks. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Tonight was the first time I came across your cord bowl tutorial - very good looking bowls/baskets. I totally enjoyed your ‘don’t take this too seriously” fun attitude and the clear manner in which you got the steps across. Bravo! I subscribed!! Thanks
You are adorable. Thank you for the ideas. Getting ready to make my first rope bowl👍🏼
Those baskets are crazy cute making great gifts and you could make a Easter basket, or fun projects to do with teens
Yours is the first demo I’ve seen of this project that doesn’t use a cross hatch straight zigzag to hold the base. Might want to try it the next time. I love you suggestion to “use your intuition, unless you don’t have intuition.”
I just made my first rope basket today. Gonna do some with fabric strips. This is great for those never ending fabric scraps too. I like the look of the fabric just scattered here and there through the basket. Thank you :)
Dude! I love your cheerful attitude. You make me laugh. It’s so refreshing! 😍 I’m totally making these for Christmas gifts this year! Thanks for a great video!!!!
What a nice video. Clear, concise, andmorer importantly, FUN. Love your laugh.
You are having so much fun with this! I want to smile just watching you :-)
If you just put a big X to start it helps. Then you can make the circle. I love the rope you are using. I will have to make a bowl from that rope. I make cloths line bowls. That you have to cover with fabric. Like this idea better. Thank you.
Do you pin the round bottom together then make an X? Then put on the machine?
Wow these would make great gifts..........for myself!!!! Thanks for sharing dude!
Excellent, very informative and precise instructions of great value. Thank you. 👏👍
Hi, loving the video. How do I calculate the amount of rope for the basket?
omg - I love your laugh! You're so fabulous!
I love making the clothesline bowls and purses! Thank you for sharing!!!
Do you cover all of the clothesline with fabric?
Sew a straight line “x” when you begin to hold it. Then go back and start your zigzag.
I'm using paracord and they are turning out so pretty💝 Thank you for the video
Love that laugh of yours, Mathew!
I was looking for some cat hutches and wasn't finding any patterns I like. Me thinks maybe a method similar to this, get some good cute texture and use up some scraps. This defo gets me started on a base.
Nice project. Would be cute in Christmas fabrics for gifts.
Loved your video and your Bob Ross shirt. I live close to where Bob Ross taped his shows for PBS.
Saw link to your blog and your nice colored baskets. So came to watching how you made yours. Ive seen others just sew an X in the beginning. I do like you zig zagged it starting off but wondering if you can just sew a straight stitch X to hold the 4” segment. Then continue with the zig zag.
Your sense of humour is so funny love it (smiles)
As you were starting the sides it did look like a sunhat for a bit. Lovely job!
I love your work. Very innovative. Could you tell me what that tool is at the back of your sewing foot? It seems to contain the rope.
I made this with regular natural piping cord and fabric. They’re cute!!
I love your laugh!! I am so glad that I ran across your channel....you have a new daily viewer!!
Love your channel and your spirit! Your laugh is so contagious love it, love it!
Love your loop at the end of the bowl. Haven't ever done that thanks for the new look.
You are so funny and you make the tutorial so much better.you are great!! Thank you for the laughs
I love this basket and thanks for tutorials. I'm so glad your real when teaching. You seem so relaxed.... By the way love the name of your sewing machine.... Bye Felicia!!!! Lmreo
It's all about that base.... Awesome tute!!!
Love these bowls. I am a newbie to sewing and wonder if this is possible to do on a beginner machine? Yours look pretty heavy duty
Thank you so much!!! Loving your channel!!@@MxDomestic
This is a great idea for sorting bowls to go in the home school /playroom! Thank you for the tutorial!
Love your rope bowl.
I liked this video before you finished your first sentence. You just exude happy positivity.
"doubting your secret super powers as a sewist"...LOL...your videos never disappoint!...loved watching the speedy parts with the dramatic music and love the loop at the end!
Love it! Sewing machine as potter's wheel. I think I'm gonna make one today.
Try doing two straight lines forming an X in the beginning , it will be a lot easier to maneuver and then go for it!
Sewing With Nancy (Nancy Zieman) had a young guest on the show who did a good demo of making a rope bowl with plain clothesline cotton and colored thread. The unique thing with hers was that she shortened her zig-zag stitches every so often (intuition!) to make confetti pops of color to keep the bowl interestingly eye-catching. Check it out!!! I, like other commenters, have been putting off starting one of these projects because the totally fabric-wrapped versions that are most common look so tedious. So I like your random (intuition!) placement of fabric wraps. That's so perfect for those few trimmed strips left over from squaring up beautiful quilting cottons ... just can't bear to throw them away. There is a lady somewhere in the New England states who sells GOBS of fabric-wrapped rope bowls/bags/baskets on an Etsy site: 1840 Farm. One last comment --- about using this rather soft, twisted cord vs. true cotton clothesline rope --- the cotton rope is a multi-strand plait (braid) which makes it stiff and will make the sides stand on their own without using a stiffening spray as shown with the soft, twisted cord. The cotton rope can also be dyed or colored with fabric paint for some added color variation.
Great vid!!💜 Do you think you would do this with a rope rug? Stiffen it with spray🤔
I like your choice of dramatic music!
Just made this - so simple, so awesome, so cute! Thanks for the video!
Loved this demonstration thankyou
I posted my first ever bowl I made while watching this video on instagram! You made it so easy!
Thank you so much for creating this video! I want to do a monthly Sip and Sew with some friends and I too have been wanting to make some of these cute baskets/bowls. I look forward to watching more tutorials from you.
I just found your channel and I love it! Your laugh is so infectious and you brighten my day! Thank you!
I love you...and your positiveness...if that's a word. Thank you so much
Do you have to use a special sewing needle on your machine to go thru the rope? I love these I will be trying these for sure
I so enjoy your happy tutorials. This is a project I can certainly handle and need. Now for the cord, can you share the store the colored cord came from? Love the hair cut!
Thank you for the awesome tutorial and the laughs!
First time watching! Loved it! You’re adorable! And funny! 🤣🥰
Your not even started yet and I already looove what you made.
Another great project and tutorial! Thanks for sharing Mathew... now I'm going to have to go find the supplies needed and try this for myself, lol!
I now have 7 rolls of cord in my shopping basket and I hold you completely responsible for this, lol!! You make me want to try new things and expand my sewing abilities.
Great project! I love your laugh!
Great creative video. You are a Very good instructor.
I love your videos so much! I'm always inspired to make something new and your amazing personality just makes me feel joyful! ❤️
Love the bowls great tutorial
Thanks for this. I wanted to make a *nest* for my parakeets to their specific liking. The other rope baskets involve glue. Not good for parakeets that are into taking things apart everything (I won't use a stiffener, of course).
Wow!! Love it!!Need a few, tfs 😍
Cute video beautiful bowls... your laugh makes me laugh...happy
Hi, I know your video is from 2 years ago. I’m hoping you will answer a question. Do you paint the clothes line, or dye it? Can you find colored clothesline? Do you use clothes line? I understand putting the material on but your bowl is so pretty. How is it that color?
You buy it already colored. It's Cora's Cotton in 4mm or 6mm and you can find it at Hobby Lobby.
Always learn something new from your videos Thanx!
If you have some water solouble embroidery stuff underneath. Makes life so much easier
Love these ooh la la bowls! You are so much fun - thank you for sharing your skills and inspiring me to want to do these projects! ((My jelly roll rug turned out so pretty, too!))
Fabulous video thank you! Subscribed!

I want to learn this method. I hope I explained well. The bag has : front, back and another piece (the bottom) 3 pieces to be sewn together. Thank you so much. I m sharing your video everywhere.
