- Let me explain a bit more about this video:
Welcome to the game of Smash or Pass the Mystery Mould edition!
Smash or Pass is a game where you make a yes or no decision on an object, person, or thing by using the word 'smash' or 'pass'. The game is typically played with 'smash' meaning yeah that's good and 'pass' meaning I will pass on that. However, as we smash the things we don't like in pottery and pass the things on that we do, I will be playing it the other way.
SMASH= The piece is not good and will not be going to the next stages.
PASS= it's good and I will take it to the next steps.
If you have been a long time follower you will know that I have my Mystery Mould series where I unveil these moulds one at a time and decorate them. The pieces that pass this game will feature in the series when I start it up again. The smashes will not but this video series gives me an opportunity to clear out some moulds that won't fit in my new studio or maybe aren't the best for the series. Some are seriously cursed!
But wait, won't it spoil the mystery?
Yes and No! The mystery mould series will return but will have a mix of pieces from this series as well as some picked randomly like normal. By the time I get to them, I think you will either have forgotten about the piece or be super eager to see how it comes to life in the series. I am actually excited to hear your ideas on the ones we do pass on to the series as I may be able to implement them into the video and the design of the artwork. I am excited for the debates and discussions about whether I made the right decision for each mould. I am also excited to cull some moulds so I have less to move when I get the shelves for my new space.
Wait, are you smashing the moulds??
Ok, not smashing the moulds! I am smashing the cast it makes inside. I will clean the moulds up and find new homes for them that will appreciate them. AS much as I can see potential in all the moulds, I do want to focus on the ones that spark the most inspiration, have the grooviest of ideas and can be shaped and crafted in new ways. The smashed moulds are great but great for someone else who they are a better fit for. I will share details where you can get these moulds very soon.
Are you ready to play?
I will be sharing a poll after each episode over on Instagram. If you think I made the wrong decision on the pieces, come over and vote. I may bring something back if you vote for it back! - Развлечения
St Paul's Cathedral in Australia
Yes! this comment needs to get some attention xD
Thx, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night 🤣
Before I started watching this video, this comment seemed very random. Thank you for sharing which building it was.
Would pass that along to the church itself, they may want it.
The funny face character with the feet is a plant pot. I had one over 20 years ago and I had a spider plant in it so it looked like bushy hair. We called him Bjorn Borg ..🤣🤣
I was just thinking it would be a great planter. Love the feet!
Remember seeing these when I was a child my auntie had one
Please continue this series!!! I am obsessed!!!
Ahh thank you so so much for the love! I’m so happy you love them! It’s a bit exciting doing so many at once! It’s tempting to do them all!
The Gnome is called David de kabouter (David the gnome), by Rien Poortvliet (Dutch). The drawings in that book are really amazing. He is holding a book and a pipe.
How many European countries have gnomes in their culture?
It looks like (reading) glasses to me 🙂
I want to say the same thing. But I love that mold.
I remember watching David der Klabauter (that's what's his name here in Germany) as an animated TV show as a kid
I still have a bunch of old Rien Poortvliet books. It's such a mystical style
The plaque being St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne makes the most sense.
It would being I am in Victoria! But with that said so many moulds have come from overseas so who knows ❤
I'm pretty sure that's what it is
I second this! The 3 spires give it away.
The spires and front facade match.
That’s definitely what it is. I’ve never seen spires exactly like that except at St. Paul’s Melbourne (which makes sense because they’re relatively recent, being built less than 100 years ago).
That gnome is more special than the other three together! Can’t wait to see what you do with him.
The others were all 🫤
Hahaha I agree! I can’t wait to do some fun colours with the tiny gnome!
I kinda love the feet mug!! Or planter, as I see other people say it is, which would look fantastic. The third mold was gorgeous but I understand it being just too impractical, makes sense it’s a smash, at least until something comes up that it could be attached to.
i would so use that face mug as a planter. it would look so awesome with plants in it!
It is a planter.
First one is St. Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne as seen from Flinders street! Found a shot and it matches exactly!!!
The second one… I agree, so creepy!!! 😑 The third one I agree, too fiddly.
For the last one, Holy crap you hit a jackpot!!! That gnome was based off a book titled “The Secret Book of The Gnomes” written by Dutch author Wil Huygen and illustrator Rien Poortvliet! Two cartoon series were also made using these designs! Finding an actual mould that survived to today is amazing!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love you. I will looking for the church. cheers
these horse moulds just demonstrate how profoundly *weirdly* proportioned horses are just in general. and they go about their business like that!
thank you so much for this series shelby, i'm enjoying it so much! you have such a joy and a passion for what you do, it's written all over your face while you work. I know it may not always be like that but you're still a huge inspiration in positivity while working creatively (and you have made me and my mom want to get into ceramics). thank you for sharing!
OMG. Mould 79. I bought one of those little ponies at a craft fair with some paints and painted and repainted that little guy for YEARS. One of my favorite "toys" from childhood.
The silly mug with the feet could be used as a flower pot. It is certainly a Monster style 😆 lol
The gnome is really cute
I really enjoy this new series! But oh my god do I LOVE the light in your new studio. Everything is bathed in the colors of "you" and I think it's amazing. LOVE IT.
I love this series because we get to see so much more of your personality!
Heheh I’m a bit of a weirdo!
@@ShelbySherritt you seem to have misspelt charming!
❤I agree.
@@DaemonInWhite
Brilliant comment! ❤ 😊
I adored the little mug with the weird feet and that would be such a cute thing to paint 💜💙
Love the Gnome! it might be Rien Poortvliet, a Dutch artist. It looks exactely like his. He made books about "kabouters" how they live etc. Super Nice find!
WHAT IF... you used just the frame from the first mold, balanced on the feet from mold 2, with the horse's head from #3 ?!?!? I always love when you 'Frankenstein' some molds together! Just a thought but the frame alone could be a nice addition to one of your creations.
I was thinking, cut the horse in half lengthwise and stick it on the plate - kind of a bas relief - then you don't have to worry about it standing up. Or cut it and wrap it around a mug (but not the face one!)
This would be so cute in your paint style
Bahahaha this is a hilarious idea. Frankenstein moulds 😂
I loved the city mould. You could make a cookie or jewlery plate with it and experiment with different colors and decorate the frame or add funny details to the city, like a ghost.
Piece 1: Def Pass. Piece 2: Planter for the cup or the feet at least Piece 3: Horse - Def Pass. Piece 4: the gnome. Idea: Planter pot with the feet from piece 2 with the gnome sitting on the feet. The face on the cup is so unique and quirky though that the other side of piece 2 could just be a standard planter with your awesome flower designs over it. Put a plant that looks like 'groovy' hair and it would be a winner! Either way, this is really fun and thank you!
I’m loving this! I can’t wait until the next! I would’ve passed the mug with feet - I thought he was adorable!!!
I liked it too, would've loved to see her really lean into the creepiness of it.
Same!! I think that was my favorite mold of this video. 😊
1) we need sooo many more of these!! Which obviously means this must continue for a long long while!! And 2) SUCH A CUTE GNOME!! I hope he has some friends in the pile so u can have a big gnome city!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think this is a great way to go through them a bit quicker. And you passed on the right one. The gnome is so sweet.
Don't stop your videos I enjoy these so much. I love your ceramics they're so pretty when you get done.
This series is so fun! I would love to see just 1 of the creepy feet mug put together and painted up. I think it’s in the category of Can’t Add Much To It but he’s so weird and silly and it’d be cool to see him painted in your pastel colour ways. Then bin him 🙈
You could make these for Halloween
Oh my god!! That IS David the Gnome!! Love it!
This is such a cool series! I think you made the right call with each one, can’t wait to see how the gnomes turn out 😍
Your outfits are always so cute. It's so cohesive to your workshop and personality
Thank you! Just dressing how I want to feel every day ❤ like sunshine hehe
yessss I always want to know where your dresses are from!!
So glad you found one you love! Your joy and sense of fun are contagious 😁
All those ranges of emotions are so fun to watch. I love this series.
I loved the weird cup , it would make a fun planter
Definitely ❤
A planter is a great idea. I did not like it as a cup.
Absolutely love this series!! I think you were right about all the moulds, although the frame was beautiful I feel like it doesn't really match your style, but the gnome is sooo cute can't wait to see it again in a mystery mould video 🥰
I would love the second design as a flower pots! it looks a little bit like a garden gnome
I thought it WAS a flower pot😅 Certainly would work better as a pot than a mug
Definitely an indoor plant pot.
I love this series! Thank you!
I like it! Some of the molds are quite funny! I'll be happy to see your personalisation when you're ready, but these videos are quite good too!
I Love Love Love this new format! Great creative idea!
I'm absolutely loving this series!! And my reaction to the mug was the exact same as yours. Especially the feet. Nope nope nope.
I enjoy seeing your expressions! So funny! I agree with your choices of smashes!
I usually only watch your shorts but I am enjoying watching your process in these longer videos. Thank you for sharing :)
I love this series! Honestly it is so much fun and we get that Mystery Mold kick getting to see several reveals.
I love smash or pass! Getting to see the behind the scenes is really fun
I love this series! It’s a good supplement to the full length ones you do. Keep it up! I loved the horse shape but agreed it’s far too delicate. The gnome is for sure the best.
Those are the biggest elastic bands I've ever seen! I'm glad my postman doesn't leave those lying around by my front door or I'd never get in the house!
LOVE the new series!
So happy that I found you, thank you, you always make me smile
Oh no not the poor foal! 😭 Spindly legs are hard but they're my favorite! I would've LOVED to see a Lisa Frank-inspired foal from you!
I love this series!¡! Also, that crazy face plant pot with feet was so great!!! Wish you had kept that one. I would have bought one from you.
Same
I love these! Please keep going!
I am torn in this series. I see the need to cull some that don’t work, however I love seeing you turn trash into treasure. For example the bedspread ghosts were a lame mold, but your style and creativity turned them into something fabulous. Cheers from the Midwest USA. 💜
I love this new series!!! The little gnome is adorable!
I am really loving this series.
Also, I am so crazy jealous of the new studio!
Hello from California! Wishing you the best! I love watching your videos 💕
Loving this series!
I absolutely loved this 😂❤️
That mug made me think of the vintage royal doulton face mugs!! (Just with added feet 💀)
That gnome was too precious! What a great find ❤️
Loving this series. 💖
I love it… keep going… this is so fun
That gnome reminds me of a childhood book series from Germany. I think they even had a tv animated series.
But i am interested to see what yo do with it.
I love your idea for the Smash or Pass series, it gives you a chance to work through molds in a quicker pace and weed out the ... really weird ones :D and gives us a chance to see what is possible.
I was just thinking it reminded me of David from David and the gnomes I used to watch this as a kid on channel 4 in the UK xx
Absolutely love the gnome. Reminds me of David the Gnome cartoons. And yeah those smashes were the right call. As adorable I think the footy plant-pot is. :}
This was so much fun and I love your dress!
Agree with all four decisions! Thanks for sharing!!
I'd use the feet mug as a garden ornament or cactus pot
I think that is precisely what it is supposed to be used for
I love this series so much!! Such fun. And I totally agree with you about all of them. Ahh that face was so CREEPY!!! Shame about the horsey, though.
More please! Love this series.
Definitely think you chose right! Love the gnome! I can see him in a book nook scene, or on a tea set or on a stick to put in a flowerpot ❤
Holy crap just saw you featured on my Spotlight emails!!! Congratulations!
Adorable Gnome!! I love it too!!!
I am loving this series! And I agreed with you on all of them. The gnome is so cute. I love the idea of hiding one in a friends house and then when they visit you, they hide it in your house. Very fun!
Great episode 👏 I like the smash or pass series. You create fun content.
Love this series! The gnome is adorable!
I really like the series! The mug indeed is creepy af
Love it. Definitely all the right decisions. Love the gnome
The footed mug man thing would be a cute planter.
Lots of fun today! Personally I would love to have all those various horse molds and get really, really good at assemble and work with them! Maybe loosely attach the legs, wait for leather hard stage and finish the hindleg then? I adore them! ❤️
AWWWWWW! I loved that mug!!!
Hiding the knome in the friend's house sounds brilliant!
Love the horse but totally understand the difficulty! Love your decisions
The horse would make a nice Christmas tree ornament.
The gnome is so cute. You could even turn him into a Santa holding a list of names for Christmas. Love this new series. How's the new studio working? Is it making everything easier?
The little gnome could also make a really cute Christmas decoration - make the pipe a candy cane and the book a present
Omgggg I think you could do so much with that footie mug man!!!
Hi Shelby! Happy to see you back regularly. Your first mold looks like Notre Dame to me. Maybe?
Love this series!!
I like the little gnome, he is really cute. I can't wait to see how you paint him.
the second one with the feet looks like a flowerpot to me. Also the gnome. It's David! :D His original design has a red hat, a nice cobalt blue coat and dark brown pants and belt. What a fun find!
This serie is so addictive !
I so loved the face and foot planter as well as the gnome! I’m sad you smashed the planter, but I understand!!
I love #2 I want to see you paint one!
Love this series!!!!
I think the first one is an LDS temple. :) Not sure which one. Love your channel! Keep it up!
Loveeeeee this series!!!
That first one is definitely some kind of gothic cathedral. Neat for a one off design but odd for a mold.
The gnome is definitely a keeper!
Looks a little like St Patrick's cathedral in New York. I don't think there was much you found do without just scraping the image and adding your own work to it, or making it a tray or something. I think all the passes were a good count and I'm loving this series!
That mug with the face would make a cute planter though! Reminds me of the pots my mom use to paint.
The little gnome! He sits on a shelf! I love him!
I’m really enjoying this series
Your face when you pulled out the mug with a face. 😂😂😂
The little knome on a stack of books would be so cute!
! That gnome mold used to be in the old pottery shop I used to cast in- I made a bunch of them for the attached shop- for shelves, for pots- they sold great around Christmastime. Wow, blast from the past.
I love the creepy mug and think it would make a great spooky goofy Halloween planter. I love the gnome! I can imagine him going to live in friends homes. ❤
Good choice on the passes and the smashes
I have a bunch of the waddle pots molds at my house that came with the original ad with the mold numbers. It’s so cool seeing someone else have them
