Truly the pinnacle of modern model railroad operations. This layout is indeed up there with Vic Smiths' City Edge layout, the La Mesa model railroad club, and Pelle Soeborg's Danville layout. Great job commentating Mr. Houston. Looking forward to more videos. You've earned my sub.
Excellant video & what an impressive layout. The detail & execution looked perfect. Some very skilled modelers/artists, really love how well the scenes carry into the backdrop. Thx for sharing
Art, great job on the video! The layout is in Colorado, North of the Denver area. The layout stays clean because of a sealed floor and ceiling in the room. However, cleaning is still required!
Dear Arthur, I saw a lot of your vids and I want to thank you very much for your time, dedication and effort in such a splendid work you make visiting those great layouts. We -modelers from other countries- do really appreciate it !. If is possible, I'd like to ask you some N scale layout from time to time and if some day you have the chance it would be very nice to watch the Reid's bros. Cumberland Valley System. Thank you again, and greetings from Chile (South America). Cheers, John.
If you watch all three parts and go to his web site bnsf fall river division, you would see the basement exposed all 3000 ft which the rr takes up 2700.
this has to be one of the best layouts i have ever seen, can you tell me what kind of signals they used and what were they using for a road bed?, hoping to see an other layout update from this layout? does he have his own you tube page? thanks lot for your help,,,Gary
gary wise John has a web site. search BNSF FALL River in search box. NJ int Signals. They are run by JMRI Panel Pro. But he uses a overlay program that was written for JMRI by one of his fellow modelers. But the system for signals is Free, JMRI.com Warning if you are not into this it is not easy to make it all work. Takes a lot of electronics to make this happen.
Art: Do you know what the owner used for the layout's roadbed? I don't think I've ever seen it used before. I noticed some cork; but the other roadbed... I'm still unsure. Is it homasote?
1:20 you start talking about the flashing Yellow and called it wrong. It's called a "Approach Limited". Proceed, Speed passing next signal must not exceed 40 mph unless it can be plainly seen that indication of the next signal displays a clear, advance approach or approach limited. It will not and should not show a red signal at the next. If it does. The signals are not setup correctly or there is a malfunction.
Actually on the BNsf it's "Approach Medium". Proceed, prepared to pass next signal not exceeding 40 MPH, and prepared to enter diverging route at prescribed speed through turnout.
THANKS, FOR GREAT VIDEO, WAS LITTLE NOT OPERATION TRAIN ON RUN WHEN CROSS THE ROADCROSS AT TIME AS GOOD WATCH SEE DETAIL OF LAYOUT AS LIKE HOW to TAKE TO RUN TRAIN OVER THE LAYOUT FROM POINT TO POINT IN OPERATION RUN .
I am willing to bet they are intermountain. engines. But that paint scheme has not been done in long time. Many of the people who work at Intermountain run on John's Layout.
In most cases in all the model RRs I have ever operated on 2 engines will pull everything. But this is an attempt at pro type operations and in the real world there would be massive motive power. mid train and end helpers not un common. on 100 car coal trains.
@@arthurhouston3 Yeah, I do know when I was in Queen Creek, AZ, a track ran right past Canyon State Academy, and I always wondered how heavy coal must be when a coal train with like 30 cars had 5 engines on the head end.... Meanwhile the autorack trains that rolled through there were way longer but usually only had 2 engines.
Tim in the hobby it is not political so I make no comments on that subject. Only say that type of sign would be part of the landscape. The railroad is not mine. I own the Grande Pacific. I am a guest at this layout.
Tim Belcher And some of us DO like the sign. And if YOU want to put a "Bush" sign on your layout you go right ahead and I promise not to complain about it.

The craftmanship of the scenery and the backdrop is so smooth, when looked at the right angle, appears to go on to the horizon. Great job.
Thanks for taking the time to do this work. Just great.
Thanks John. You have a superb layout that demonstrates excellent artistic and engineering skills.
Thanks Ken, appreciate the kind words...
I can't even describe how great that this layout looks. SPEECHLESS!!
Excellant video & what an impressive layout. The detail & execution looked perfect. Some very skilled modelers/artists, really love how well the scenes carry into the backdrop. Thx for sharing
I've never seen four locos coupled like that. Thought double heading was the max. Great layout.
Art, great job on the video!
The layout is in Colorado, North of the Denver area. The layout stays clean because of a sealed floor and ceiling in the room. However, cleaning is still required!
Awesome layout. Like the background structures. A lot of industries to switch and very realistic scenery.

Thd road bed is done with Homosoad. Do not think i spelled it correctly. Go the web site their is e mail to John. Google BNSF FALL RIVER DIVISION
Such an awesome layout...
I am a guest at all but the GP i do assume people want personnel information given out. Watch for up date soon.
arthurhouston3 up
Looks great!
Very well thought out layout. Has there ever been a mishap on the layout? Such as misallignment with tracks, derailment, or collision?
The rr is in a basement and a closed enviorment. I am sure that helps.
out standing..thanks for sharing
vinny...aka...bnsf6951
0:31 nice!
Great video. Great layout, but how on Earth do you keep it clean, especially the track?
Amazing video 😁
Absolutely the best!

Cool video
Man I hope my backdrop etc... Looks even 1/4 as good. My wife tells me I try to get things done too fast.
Why was the bell on for so long?
Art! You best start payin attention, and blowin those crossings bown slick! Lmao
Art: Do you know what the owner used for the layout's roadbed? I don't think I've ever seen it used before. I noticed some cork; but the other roadbed... I'm still unsure. Is it homasote?
Great layout, does he have a site where you can view a layout plan?
Website is www.bnsfrr.net
I have a hard time walking and chewing gum. Let alone, run camera, control engine speed, blow horn, walk, watch signals, etc.

Need to brush up on the horn and signal rules but a great video:)

16:46 were the hell did you get that locomotive, I want it soo bad and cant find it anywere
I am willing to bet they are intermountain. engines. But that paint scheme has not been done in long time. Many of the people who work at Intermountain run on John's Layout.
ok, I love
that paint job
I think it was called Presidential paint Scheme
ok, thanks
How big is that layout?
Was the GE demo loco a custom paint by the owner or was it sold like that?
As I remember the GE unit were sold painted like that I need to contact John will ask him.
On the coal train, are the helpers consisted with the lead locomotives?
bobaroo58 no they are not. That engineer has keep contact. No nuckel on coupler
great !!!!
I cannot really comment i have been their twice in two years. I am not aware of any problems but that is what happens when you do it right.
4 engines, does the train actually need it, or just roleplaying?
In most cases in all the model RRs I have ever operated on 2 engines will pull everything. But this is an attempt at pro type operations and in the real world there would be massive motive power. mid train and end helpers not un common. on 100 car coal trains.

vocês são de mais...
I like it to many people standing around like government workers
You will need to give me time mark for crossover.
Where is this layout?
Wow!!!
Why not identify the owner and location? Does he have security concerns?
I'm the owner. My name is John Parker and I'm located North of Denver. www.bnsfrr.net.
Geez, approach medium, approach, stop. How hard can it be??
One word WOW
Some of the comments here really make me laugh out loud.
Salad Shooter.
iuo
Berenice Maldonado Maldonado if its in my opinion, you show me or tell me of a better layout then this?
Stopped watching when the vandalized reefers showed up.
WTF- Love you trains, Don't like the Obama sign, You really should take it down,
Tim in the hobby it is not political so I make no comments on that subject. Only say that type of sign would be part of the landscape. The railroad is not mine. I own the Grande Pacific. I am a guest at this layout.
arthurhouston3 yeah, all the sign really does is help set the era of the layout. Not political IMO.
Tim Belcher And some of us DO like the sign. And if YOU want to put a "Bush" sign on your layout you go right ahead and I promise not to complain about it.
Trains that carries biggest over sizes loads in both ho and real railroads .
Thank you very much.
