Woodys life's work is fascinating. Not many people have been fortunate enough to do what they love for so long. Thanks for letting us hear how you did it!
@Ausgar-yc1yl you're right she was his adopted daughter. Guess it's better to defend a child groomer of his own kid than a pedophile. But then again, I figure he started early as these types of perverts don't have many boundaries. But hey, he made some good movies right? You should be ashamed of yourself sticking up for this creepo.
I love the interviewer seemingly switching off listening; just after 15:00 Woody describes the positives of digital filming and talks about thousands of extras would have been needed for the beach scenes if they had shot on standard film etc and then minutes later the interviewer says 'And didn't you tell me recently that you were able to do things where you need a lot of people; a lot of extras on a beach and you can take maybe a 100 extras and make them look like 400 extras...'. He just told you about it!
What a LOVELY interview! A BIG THANKS to the wonderful host! He was just incredible. And of course, Woody Allen Sir is a legend. An ocean of wisdom! :))
Woody is one of the most special directors to me. I watched so many of his movies as a child with my Dad and brother. Holds a special place for me. First as a 9 or 10 year old with Bananas and Sleeper. Now that I'm older I can appreciate his more serious, non-funny ones (Stardust Memories anyone?). He had the best casts. Would love him to write a movie about me..guess I would be a side character. I'm weird and neurotic.
All I can say is.... the man is a genius!!! Many thanks Mr. Allen!!!! " I like the studios to put the money in a brown paper bag and go away" LOL! " I regard them as at best bankers, if not criminals" LOL Mr. Allen please NEVER stop making movies!!!!! We love your movies!!!!!!! Manhattan, Annie Hall, Sleeper, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex, Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy...etc... masterpieces!!!!
Out of all the great artists in the world, this man would be my first pick to meet oneday. And even then I probably wouldn't be able to articulate any intelligible question.
Definitely unique in his own way -- irreplaceable. I will always love and support and defend that remarkable person, and hope I'll also be in capacity of remembering at least a couple of the lighest moments from his work during the hours, if not the minutes, the very last seconds before quitting this senseless world of ours for ever. 🤫
As a Woody Allen fan of numerous decades this was the first time I came to hear exactly why he rejected some movies that were highly acclaimed by critics. He did not feel that he accomplished his vision. His life advice about never ordering the guacamole special at the Polish restaurant is profound. It reminds me of my uncle Sid's famous quote, never judge a sausage by the strawberry on the label. Things are not always as they are advertised and expectation is the mother of all disappointment.
My Top 13 favorite Directors are Elia Kazan, Orson Welles, Billy Wilder, Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Quentin Tarantino, Mel Brooks, Frank Capra, 70's era Francis Ford Coppola, Richard Donnor, & Stanley Kubrick to give an idea of my taste in film. But for the life of me I could never understand the appeal of Woody Allen Movies.
2023,.....Ok so this dropped in 2017,.....Not a problem,.....so glad to have found this interview. Like many, I'm a fan of 95% of what Woody has done. I love to hear him talk. I get it, Woody!....I hate all the newer technology. My smart phone is too smart for me,.....I wish I could go back to my very basic dumb phone. Reluctently I'm on Face Book,.....I use it, but not like most people. I post things barely once a year,.....and I hate the running "news" feed, as it is designed to be a form of "click bait". I feel we are on the same level. I never enjoyed most amusement park rides. I liked the boring things, like the Penny Arcade. And that old fashioned game called Skee-Ball,.....which has made sort of come back, in 2019,.....some taverns have installed them, to entertain their patrons. Also,...a new variation on an old game called Duck Pins,......a variation on bowling,....with balls the size of grapefruits,....and quite tiny "pins",....about half the size of regular bowling pins. I did enjoy "the fun house",...and a motorway with gas engine powered cars.....that drove about 20MPH. And Dodge-em,.....the cars powered by electricity , where your goal is to smash into other drivers,.....back in the 50s through the 1970s,....this was pretty tame. I enjoyed all the horrible food sold at the amusement parks,.....as it wasn't available anywhere else,....my city never had county fairs. Later when I moved closer to a rural area,.....I finally could attend county fairs. Me and my gal,.... we were healthy and thin,....and we'd eat every sort of decadent confection and tons of greasy foods and mysterious meats. Funnel Cakes, elephant ears, deep fried pickles, cotton candy, salt water taffy,....ice creams and custards. We spent most of our money on that horrible food. Until one day,...when we were about 50 years old,.....I suggested we spend our money at a real restaurant. Instead of eating at the outdoors, fly infested, stinking of barn animals,.....state fair. Ha!
I wonder if Woody has had hair transplants cause it looks like he has more hair now than he had in the late 70's.I saw Match Point a long time ago but I don't remember much about it. On the other hand , I will never forget Manhattan . I knew a girl at the time that looked just like Mariel Hemmingway in that film and I remember the night I told her that and what a disaster that night ended up being.
Can’t say I agree with Woody’s view that popularity and artistic quality are unrelated. The greatest artists produce work that is both of the highest quality and possesses popular appeal-think Sinatra, Astaire, Ellington-in the movie world Wilder, Hitchcock, Ford, Capra. Works that are allegedly brilliant but make no impact on the public are pointless. Woody is of course also wrong about Some Like It Hot-surely one of the finest comedies ever. Great writing, great cast. And Woody’s own best film? Sleeper. It’s a flawless comedy. Everything works.
If Robert Weide wanted to interview Miley Cyrus, why did he invite Woody Allen? This man has lived 15 lives to Weide's one, had Woody not turned this around to talk about what matters, Weide would have experienced an epic fail of an interview.
Good morning everyone is a very interesting Interview with the Vampire because he sucks from the listener or rather deprives him of everything that is average and at the same time keeps him alert enough to make him think about himself again I am unique in its simplicity...............
weide just had to let us and Mr. Allen know that he, still, reads newspapers. It was a completely unnecessary comment on his part. Um, plenty of people still do read their news mr. weide, but I hope your ego got the boost you were looking for.
I find it hard to believe that he mentions "Match Point" and "Midnight Paris" which he refers as "The French One" a better film than Annie Hall, and not Manhattan or Hannah and her Sisters or Crimes and Misdemeanors (one of his best films). I hate those city films, any good director could have made those delightful films. He lost his touch, age does that. I still love him though. I can listen to him all night long.
He's a talented, interesting man, but what he & Soon Yi did to Mia Farrow & her family was wicked. There were thousands of women in the world he could have hooked up with & he set his sights on his partner's young daughter. And this after how many years of analysis?
He didn't "set his sights" on her, they fell in love-after Mia Farrow had encouraged him to take Soon-yi to the baseball. You can't help who you fall in love with.

As every single time I’ve been watching this man since 1970, such a unique and enriching experience. What a treasure to humankind.
All his 14 year old daughters think so.
Unless you're his 14 year old adoptive daughter getting groomed by a pedo.
But yah, he's a treasure

Best Woody interview so far. Watched many. Because he let him talk without interrupting. Woody Allen is fascinating.

Perhaps the most insightful interview with Woody. Wish it was longer.
That's what his kids used to say at bath time

Woody sounds like the great George Lewis. I heard Woody playing at Michael's pub inn NYC 1978

Great interview.
I would have no problem banking on a Woody Allen film.
In case, no doubt crowdfunding would always be the ultimate option we'll all suggest him.
I love him. Authentic writer and opted to go with the absurd comedic relief, rather than reality, which is an awful absolute
Year?? His take on the internet is so refreshing. "Everyone thinks they can play drums."
It literally says 2017.
Fantastic, as suspected.

Love his films, but someone needs to teach the man how to dress. The cheap, saggy socks and hunk of leg sticking out is not a good look.
Nothing wrong with Woody's leg
He's older, he wishes to be comfortable.
