      Thank you, Wil!
It's a good place. Good camping, good rockhounding. Just wish it was a little closer to home. :D

There is just something fascinating about wood that has been replaced by mineral desposits! I love it. I would want to try and get a piece of the outside cabed. I don't know if that would be possible but the colors and textures are just beautiful.

I love fossil wood! Is it wood? Is it a rock? Yes! :D
A person could cab up something where the top of the cab is the rough surface texture of the fossil wood. No doming, just a shape, polished sides and bottom. I often think about doing this with the botryoidal pieces I find.

@@camplapidary I wonder if a resin could be used to seal the top? I love your idea on this!

I see people putting precious opal chips in resin and making cabs, so I don't see why not.

@@camplapidary I ordered some cabs that were like that with turquoise and copper. They were not true to form of domed cabs and presented some difficulty in wire frame wrapping them. Next time I would like to try and reform the domes and sides. I worked in acrylic making boxes and found out that they can be sanded and polished without leaving sanding marks. I would think resin is no different?

I would imagine one could grind, sand, and polish most resins. I don't really have too much experience with epoxies. I've really only used them for stabilizing rough rock.
