How to Swim Faster Freestyle . . . By Decreasing Drag

  • www.SynergySwimming.com. This entertaining freestyle swimming technique video shows you how to swim faster. The quickest way to increase your swimming stroke speed and freestyle technique is by learning how to decrease drag and inefficiency and not by increasing power. The drills and instructions shown can be used whether you are coaching, preparing for triathlon swimming, improving your swim stroke or just learning to swim. An efficient swim technique for crawl swimming begins and ends with proper body position, streamlining and balance.
Learning swim efficiency techniques requires incorporating swimming awareness in swimming drills and workouts. The examples of bad swimmers juxtaposed with examples of good swimmers will help you see how to improve your own crawl technique. Freestyle swim. Monterey, CA

I use this video a reference point and come back to it several times a month. He also takes the time to actually respond to my questions. Very appreciative of his time.

hey my name is Brooke, I'm a 3 time gold medalist at BAD. I just wanted to say this is a great video!!! Very helpful for people with all skill sets. also, when I was about 8 (I'm twelve now.) we where taught this same lesson. Ofcourse this video explains it a lot more in detail. one thing I thought may be helpful, is to think of yourself as a boat, the boat is small, sharp, and narrow at the front. this decreases the drag! make sure you make yourself as long and narrow as possible.

This is one of the best swimming technique videos I've seen on RUclips (better even than most of the swimsmooth material, which is great). Because he really knows what he's talking about. He knows the theory and has good illustrative video clips, and makes practical recommendations. Useful points about tilting pelvis/arching back, shoulder flexibility, and pointing out how torque from a wide arm recovery causes drag. Great stuff.

Great advises! I was trying to increase the power of my strokes with my injured shoulders (rotator cuff injuries) in order to swim fast and hurting my shoulders significantly. I can instead use the techniques in this video to decrease the drag and resistance in the water to improve my swim.
