    I have been living in London for almost 10 years and it is now time to move on. Stockholm is the city of choice and I can't wait to explore Sweden. There are so many benefits of moving to Sweden which I mention in this video. I also talk about the pros and cons of London.

    The Cold isn't really a problem, the Darkness is. Pretty much everyone moving to (or living in) Sweden agrees on that. Just dress right and the Cold is kept in check (and Swedish houses are very well isolated and heated) the Darkness is much harder to fight.

    Thank you for a good video with proper research! In Sweden you go home when your work hours are over. At least for 90% of workers, so yeah, life/work balance is very important. Sweden is ok when it comes to landscape, but Norway sadly beat us there. As a pre-school teacher I am happy you took time too look into our curriculum, my tip for you and your family is to find a smaller pre-school that focus on working in smaller groups (divided groups with up to 7-8 kids in each group) since it gives the teachers more opportunity to see and teach your child. And Dads are allowed to take out more than 90 days, as long as you both do the 90 you can split the remaining 300 anyway you want. Hope you will like Stockholm!

      Stockholm has dozens of amazing museums (my favorites are Skansen & Moderna Museet) and I also just love walking around the city center with all its islands. There are also many great lakes & hiking spots nearby - definitely check out Tyresta Nationalpark. Södermalm has the coolest bars (Himlen!) & second-hand stores (e.g. Myrorna). And the best Kanelbulle (a kind of cinnamon roll) you will find at Bullar & Bröd!

But I must impose that it is very important you learn the language, even though most Swedes speak rather good English (or Swenglish some call it). I completely agree its totally a personal choice and preference :) I am living in Stockholm since 10 years, but cost of living, taxation, rent/buy house is somewhat high here. I have some friends who have different view and moved(or considering to move) for language, professional growth, better healthcare reason. But again its personal preference 🙂 Also I'd like to mention the work life balance stats has been changed dramatically in past 3-4 years, which is unfortunate and that was the main reason for me to settle down here. The language is still needed here, if you want to socialize apart from work and colleagues.

    I'm a Swedish man who now watched your video and you talked about how Swedes are reserved people. This is NOT completely true but it all depends on where you live or visit. So it is easier to make friends in Gothenburg than in Stockholm BUT I am Kirunabo and live at the top of Sweden and we Kiruna residents are not at all as reserved as in Southern Sweden and you have easier to get in touch with us up in Lapland. Then you mentioned the cold and the snow, so because the world is getting warmer it will not be as cold now as before and if you want to be guaranteed to experience snow during the winter, you have to go up to Jämtland or up to Lapland and then Kiruna, Gällivare, Pajala, Jokkmokk. Then if you and your partner get another child, you have paid leave between 12-18 months, depending on how many days a week you take out parental benefit. You mention, like many others, that it is quite expensive to live in Sweden compared to some other countries. BUT what none of you non-Swedes do not know is that the higher taxes mean that you have lower costs precisely for then, among other things, daycare, which is paid for by tax money. If you often have to visit a nurse, doctor, physiotherapist, maternity care or something else in healthcare, Sweden has high-cost protection. Which means that you only pay a total of SEK 1,350 in visit fees, then you have the rest of a 12-month period free card and then it costs nothing to visit any of this. If you take medicines that are expensive, then through the tax in Sweden, you also have high-cost protection on prescription drugs and you pay a maximum of SEK 2,350, after which you have a free card for medicines for the remaining 12 months. The higher tax in Sweden means that you can study for free up to upper secondary school level. The food from kindergarten all the way up to and including high school is free. in Schools in Sweden you have open air days and you can go to various activities, these are free or can be a small fee, as the tax pays this. To understand why Sweden has higher taxes and why it can be more expensive in Sweden, you have to read what this money goes to and what the citizens get for the high taxes.

      @@LivingSwedish You have to experience it for yourself. Sweden is very popular among Germans, as just over 10,000 Germans own holiday homes in Sweden. Kiruna has been known for over 10 years around the world, for moving the entire city. Kiruna is known for its midnight sun. Because from now until mid-July, the sun never sets. In winter, Kiruna is known for the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi, which is rebuilt every winter and melts in the spring. You never repeat something you build inside the ice hotel. Then you can take a sauna inside the ice hotel while sticking your head out through the roof to see the stars and the Northern Lights. facebook.com/icehotel.sweden/photos/a.10150735862487603/10159359834062603

  • @abcdefg216
    @abcdefg216 3 года назад +2

    Another thing, if you compare with for example Spain... They hang out with their families and meet at restaurants and stuff more than swedish ppl do (sometimes) but its also a cultural thing, I think that Sweds hang out with friends at their homes more frequently than for example spanish ppl do so the difference in between the countries can also seem a bit bigger than it is I think (even if its true)... Thats also a way to make things cheaper... To for ex make a dinner at home (and buy alcohol to your home compared to drinking in pubs or restaurantes if you like that sort of thing.) Bring your friends back to your place for a game-night, or dinner or so. :) Maybe. :) (Or go out ofcourse!... But its also alot of socialiseing between ppl you dont see as easily here since its at ppls houses compared to for example in Spain where they all go out sitting at some bar/restuarante and are "seen" more easily by others.

    • @LivingSwedish
      @LivingSwedish  3 года назад

      You're absolutely right, I can totally see that! Swedes are probably as outgoing and keen to hang out with friends as Spanish people but they prefer to hang out in their homes where it's cheaper when you throw in food and drinks. Never thought of that. I think that's a great explanation 👌🏻

    If you live in any Arabic country, you would be required to follow their rules and priorities their culture. If that is not racism, then the right has a point.

    Sadly rape and assault has increased greatly over recent years. So not the wonderfully safe country it once was. However the Swedes are a gentle race, easy to walk over too. Grattis till ditt val. Lycka till i Sverige.

    Welcome to Sweden.. but sadly, the country is going down the drain - due to irresponsible immigration politics and a governing party that is totally incompetent. Your safety cannot be guaranteed or even expected. I'm sorry. (I really am.) The lingering glimmer of Sweden being this kind and awesome country is fading fast.
