Ronnie O'Sullivan vs Neil Robertson | Great tactical and attacking snooker | 2007 World Championship

  • Exciting tactical frames and counterattacks. Ronnie's evil snookers and Neil's responses are interesting, unusual facets to watch. At the age of 25, Neil misses the easiest frame ball of his career. However, he then makes an impressive comeback to the delight of the enthusiastic audience.
    Commentators: John Virgo, Clive Everton, Terry Griffiths, Willie Thorne and Dennis Taylor.
    Ronnie O'Sullivan vs Neil Robertson, 2007 World Snooker Championship - Last 16
    The statistics shown in the video correspond to the date of the match.
    Cesar Muroya created a unique editing technique to extract the essence of the game without losing the drama involved. Contextual information is also an innovation appreciated by viewers.
    This format is not intended to substitute the full version but rather to make snooker more accessible to new fans. The fluency and atmosphere of the game stay in a shorter length video, allowing even experienced fans to enjoy snooker at any time.

    What a nice lad Robertson is - 12-10 down, his opponent only needs one frame, admits a fluke and yet he can still smile. Great sportsman.

    Ronnie is my favourite player, but I like Neil Robertson,I have a lot of respect for him and the way he plays snooker,I was so glad when Ronnie, after beating him in a final, said "Never mind the snooker, Neil is the nicest human being on the tour and that apart from Ding,who he is very close, and maybe Liang, there's no other player he would like to share it with" I'm not sure but it may have been Ronnie's 1,000th century, whatever I thought it was a nice touch by Ronnie, and good to see him and Neil being good friends

    Just anecdotal: the three previous matches between them were played in ranking events, best of 9, in the QF stage and whoever won the match ended up winning the title (2005 Welsh, 2006 GPrix, 2007 Welsh; the last were the first two Neil titles).

    Neil Robertson said recently (last year maybe) that for much of his career he was addicted to playing video games. He said he really regrets it because he feels it kept him from having success he should have had.

    At the beginning of this video, there’s this: “ ‘I think it’s made snooker a more positive game. In the past, only rarely did players miss deliberately, but sometimes they had not to strive over hard to make a successful escape.’ - Clive Everton on the miss rule -“ I understand everything except “…had not to strive over hard…” Can someone help me understand what he’s saying here? Thank you.

    • @CesarMuroya
      @CesarMuroya  4 года назад +1

      He means that they didn't have to try hard (as players do today) to make a successful escape, because it was not mandatory in the past (although in certain situations the ref asked them to play again).

    In my understanding of the rules you are not allowed to jump over an interfering ball when trying to hit the object ball, correct me if i’m wrong. You can clearly see on the slowmotion at 4:15 that when Neil is swerving around the pink the cueball jumps and leaves the bed of the table for a split second, due to his elevated cue. Of course very hard to see without slowmotion for the ref, but is this a foul or is he allowed to partially jump over and around the pink in this situation?

    • @CesarMuroya
      @CesarMuroya  2 года назад

      It is not allowed to jump over any part of an object ball. The shot was legal IMO.

      They didn't bring in the no-alcohol rule for referees until the following year.
      Also if one of the coloured ball's spot is covered by a red or the other coloured balls, they use whatever other spot that's closest to it's own. And if there's no spot available, they put it as close as possible to its own spot and the ball that's covering it's spot
