Eastern North Carolina Nursing Honor Guard

The Nursing Honor Guard program celebrates the lives of those who dedicated their professional lives to nursing, at the time of their passing. ECU Health Medical Center established its own local program in 2017. Members of the Honor Guard attend the funeral and stand guard at the casket, dressed in traditional white uniforms and caps. The tribute includes a reading of the Nightingale pledge, a final call to duty and a nurse’s prayer. The family receives a Nightingale lamp as a memento of the service.
