Charlie doing a Platoon reference while Martin does an Apocalypse Now monologue, only to have them both reference Wallstreet, is a really great Sheen family meta-gag.

The show at the end was American Gladiators. It was one of the most popular shows on TV back in the early 90s. Consider it the American Ninja Warrior of its day.
National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1 is another great spoof movie and you already did part of your homework for it :) Apart from obviously Lethal Weapon, it spoofs Basic Instinct, Die Hard, Dirty Harry, Rambo, The Silence of the Lambs, Wayne's World, 48 Hrs.
The reality TV competition they were spoofing at the end was American Gladiators. It ran from 1989-1996 and briefly got revived for a couple of seasons in 2008 during the writer's strike. It was very popular, so much so that in 1992 the UK created its own Gladiators show and other countries followed. Each episode two men and two women compete in a series of games that changed week to week against eachother and/or the shows stable of Gladiators with names like Turbo or Laser or Blaze. The better your score, the bigger lead you get in the final obstacle course round.
The UK version is actually in the midst of being resurrected in the UK by the BBC, with filming having taken place at the Sheffield Arena, and should hit the screens in the Autumn.
I know that scene is a parody of a scene in another movie. I know I've even seen it once, but I can't think of the name of the movie. I think in the original scene they go to rescue someone, but the bad guys have cut off his feet or something. Does anyone out there know what the original movie is?

@@vodengc520 That line seems stupid and out of nowhere. But it's actually based on the NBA's advertisements of themselves, at the time (the 90's). "The NBA! It's FANTASTIC!!!" was their whole pitch. Lloyd Bridges, who played the President, had an action TV series in the 50s and 60s called Sea Hunt. He played a former US Navy diver who had different adventures each week. His scuba diving in this movie was a reference to that.
Lloyd Bridges, as the President, reminds me so much of present day Joe Biden (what with his borderline-senile lines and acts), that you could almost say this movie was a spoof on THAT guy! lol

There was a reference to the movie Casablanca. Lloyd Bridges starred in a TV show Sea Hunt, where he was a scuba diver. Game Show .. American Gladiators. In the last episode of 2 & 1/2 Men a Piano was dropped on Charlie Sheen.
@23:10 the reference being made here was a show called "American Gladiators" where competitors (typically very fit as I recall) had to run through a course of obstacles and muscled athletic defenders for time to win a prize. It is long gone.

The bit at 23:02 is from American Gladiators. It was a sort of gameshow competition where contestants would face several physically-demanding challenges opposed by the "gladiators" who were actors/athletes who opposed them. Think the show "Ninja Warrior" but with people throwing stuff at the competitors or trying to knock them off of platforms.
If you want a Rowan Atkinson movie I highly recommend Rat Race. It’s not a purely Rowan movie it’s an ensemble movie but still he is in it and it is great.
2:15 The guy who portrays Saddam Hussein is Jerry Haleva, he has 6 movie credits all of which are him playing Saddam Hussein. 14:29 Wall Street was a movie in which both Sheens stared and played father and son. 23:09 Gladiators - it was a popular gameshow at the time. It was basically Ninja Warrior, but with people trying to block players from the goal.
23:10 Ahhh yeah, the American Gladiators segment! haha it was soooo big at the time. Top athletes compete in all these events against "Gladiators" in an arena. I suggest just looking up clips online, it was pretty damn good I used to love watching it!
Walk Hard - The Dewey Cox Story is a movie that I love that spoofs musician biopics, it stars John C Reilly. It is mainly spoofing 'Walk the Line' and 'Ray' if you want to watch those first. I loved Hot Shots growing up, great to see it held up!
I haven't seen this in ages, but it's funny that the guy at 12:12 makes many appearances with Sheen on Two and a Half Men. That last part was referencing an American game show called American Gladiators. What's Wall Street, a place in New York. George is dropping jokes like in Airplane now. A hospital... what is it? It's a big building with patients.. lol
the game show they were playing is called American gladiator . Contestants had to run through obstacle courses while also avoiding and battling "gladiators" on some of the obstacles.
The key to all the Zucker Bros/ Pat Proft/ Abrams spoofs is that they always asked their actors to play it straight regardless of the silliness of the situation. That’s why so many spoofs in the early 2000’s failed: because they were just parodying a scene from some other movie but winking at the audience the whole time, constantly looking at the audience and essentially saying “look how clever we are!”.
4:24 comment...clarification--this scene spots the movie with splits actor JCVD Kickboxer...tradition ritual fight where the fighters wrap the hands then dip the backs in 3 sizes of broken glass to fight using the glasses section on the opponent.-Ernie Moore Jr.
12:15 It's a callback to the first Hot Shots where everyone seem to know each other then they all seem to have "Eagle river" in common. Also the deadpan "I'll set my charges and blow it all up" is perfect. 23:17 it's "American gladiator" (Just "gladiator" in most other countries) think "Ninja Warrior" but with bodybuilder opponents along the way, the whole show was basically two contestants who faced off against the recurring gladiators and (their opponent) in events, winning events gave them a head start on the final challenge which was an obstacle course the competitors raced each other on.
One of my favorite parts of this movie happens right after the "bloodiest movie ever" kill count thing where he finally runs out of ammo & a bunch of guys start running up so he grabs a handful of bullets out of a box & just flings em at the guys taking them all out.
14:12 ONE OF MY FAVORITE META REFERENCES - Both Charlie Sheen and his father Martin Sheen starred in the movie WALL STREET directed by Oliver Stone. Also a good movie. I did love how they worked off well with each other whenever they share a movie together, the fact that they both reference two separate Vietnam War based Movies that they were in was amazing. The Wall Street reference was a great bonus.
"Wall Street" is a 1987 movie that had both father and son Martin and Charlie Sheen (although Michael Douglas' character is the standout). The family's real last name is Estevez, Sheen is a stage name Martin took to sound less ethnic to get acting work in the 70s, and Charlie took it as well. His brother Emilio stuck with Estevez. While Charlie became the highest paid actor on tv and went the way of cocaine, 3sums, and hiv, Emilio followed his father's catholic faith and started his own vineyard. They have their own father/son movie called The Way which is really touching.
You must watch Wall Street, it also stars Michael Douglas. Martin Sheen was also in Apocalypse Now! And his son Charlie Sheen was later in Platoon, two classic war movies.
Charlie Sheen's brother Emilio Estevez Has a Hilarious spoof on the Lethal Weapon movies (among other things) Called "LOADED WEAPON 1" It stars Emilio and Samuel L. Jackson (Murtaugh and Riggs basically) lol.. Emilio is also very good at doing spoofs!!Anyways... It also stars William Shatner and Tim Curry... Plus a BUNCH of cameos!! You should really check that one out for your next spoof movie!!
"Kiss me like you've never kissed me before!" my wife and I have been married now for 30 years... we have been through a lot, and we're still goofy with each other! And I'll take her and say, "I'm going to kiss you like you've never been kissed before!" and, yes, do exactly what Charlie Sheen did in that moment!
If you ever do decide to watch a Rowan Atkinson movie: it's hard to get better than the first Johnny English. It's a parody of spy movies, specifically the bond ones.
one of the most awful movies he ever made just slightly better than the mr bean goes to america sequels. Hes not really well-suited for movies his best works are mr bean and blackadder
Great reaction! This was a personal favorite back in the day but I didn't enjoy it very much this time around. But at least you two helped me remember what it was like. The movie spoofs many things but one of the least-talked-about films these days is a pretty good 1987 Kevin Costner thriller No Way Out that's the basis of one of the scenes here.
No Way Out is actually a really good suspense thriller, but these days people mostly remember it for that scene in the back of the limo, for obvious reasons.
Well obviously now you guys need to watch the movie Wall Street with Charlie Sheen, Martin Sheen and Michael Douglas. It's one of the quintessential movies of the 1980's.
Some really good Rowan Atkinson movies are the _"Johnny English"_ trilogy. He's also in the 2003 _"Scooby Doo"_ movie with Sarah Michelle Gellar & Freddie Prinze Jr And _"Rat Race"_ with John Cleese, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Lovitz, Seth Green & Cuba Gooding Jr
"I see you are no stranger to pain." "I've been married. . . . . TWICE." "Woah!" One of the best jokes ever! I love that they got the "Troutman" actor for this!
We used the "war.... it's faaaantastic" line a lot when I was in the National Guard.😅 The best part of the movie for me was when Charlie broke the forth wall and looked at the camera with that satisfied look after she said she would pleasure him anytime anywhere.
If you haven't already watched it, as good as Rowan is as Mr. Bean, you should really try Black Adder, not only is Rowan awesome, but you'll also see the likes of Tony Robinson who is brilliant in the series. You also get, both Hugh Laurie, Dr House himself, as well as his long time friend and comedic partner, Stephen Fry!!! Only recommendation is to skip the first season, it's vastly different and hardly feels like the same series, this is the only show I recommend to skip a season, because it's that big of a night and day difference between season 1 and the rest of the series, besides if you are curious, you can always check it out after you've watched the rest.
23:00 That game show was called American Gladiators. It ran for several years and was brought back a few years ago but I don't think it lasted. You guys should watch a couple of episodes. I believe it came out after the movie Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger was released as a next best thing and it was pretty popular for a while.
"They tied my shoelaces" - still the funniest line ever. The gameshow is American Gladiators which was massive back then. There are a bunch of repeats on RUclips and are still entertaining. If you love Rowan Atkinson you should defo do Blackadder which is his funniest show. But start with S02, then e3 and 4, then 1 because 1 is very strange. One spoof you really should do is called Baseketball. This is Team America and Airplane in one. Trey Parker and Matt Stowe's gross humour mixed with Abrahms/ Zucker insanity. It's VERY silly.
The speed text at the start can be explained by submarines using Very Low Frequency comms, a rate of 50 baud - 5 bytes a second. If they're using standard ASCII of 8 bits per letter, thats 5 letters per second, so it would be slow to appear on the screen 🧐

Don’t worry George, I’m proud of your puns even if Simone is ashamed 😂
He's not a dad, yet he possesses the power of the Dad Joke. Impressive.
24:27 Ramada's Inn. Why George, you big softie.
23:01 American Gladiators which was on from 1989 - 1997, so it was right in the middle of is run when this movie came out.
Also im gonna agree with the others, "Top Secret" is one of the funniest parody films made, arguably funnier than Airplane!
When the guy pops up and says "War. It's fantastic!" that's a reference to promos for the NBA in the 90s that were on TV quite often.
there is also the Black Adder series, very worthwhile.
The dipping the wrapped hands in glass was not in Rambo 3 but from the Van Damme movie Kickboxer that was released in 1989.
Even though he only has a supporting role in it, Rowin Atkinson is also great in FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL, which is worth a reaction.
He also plays the jewelry salesman in Love Actually, but it's not worth watching just for him.
I haven't seen this in ages, but it's funny that the guy at 12:12 makes many appearances with Sheen on Two and a Half Men. That last part was referencing an American game show called American Gladiators. What's Wall Street, a place in New York. George is dropping jokes like in Airplane now. A hospital... what is it? It's a big building with patients.. lol
Loaded Weapon 1... we are soooooooo close
The scene around 23:00 is a reference to a TV show called American Gladiators. Extremely popular throughout the 90s.
"We love the bean... "
Well there goes my coffee 😂
New alternative tagline for Hot Shots Part Deux - “Just flick it”
And we’re done with the yoghurt
the game show they were playing is called American gladiator .
4:18 This is from the movie Kickboxer with Jean Claude Van Damme.
Simone making herself cringe is the funniest thing ever.
4:24 comment...clarification--this scene spots the movie with splits actor JCVD Kickboxer...tradition ritual fight where the fighters wrap the hands then dip the backs in 3 sizes of broken glass to fight using the glasses section on the opponent.-Ernie Moore Jr.
Top Secret! Must be the next one.
If you want more Atkinson, i highly recommend the Johnny English movies.
The woman's story about being married before she and Charlie had met, then finding out her dead husband was alive, is a reference to Casablanca.
Don't forget the true thespian of the Estevez family, Joseph.
Charlie’s real name is Carlos Estevez.
Near the end was a game show called *American Gladiators*
"Kiss me like you've never kissed me before!"
my wife and I have been married now for 30 years... we have been through a lot, and we're still goofy with each other! And I'll take her and say, "I'm going to kiss you like you've never been kissed before!" and, yes, do exactly what Charlie Sheen did in that moment!
I missed the "... but that's not important right now..." after the explanation of Wall Street... 🤣
Still makes me giggle that Ryan played Mailman in the first movie and they never address it.
You're reference. I got it.
I LOVED watching this movie at a drive-in, while on a date. It set the mood...
thanks christopher!
"I loved you in Wall St." is the greatest line in movie history.🤣🤣🤣
How can it NOT be? 5 movies in 1 scene (Hot Shots Part Deux, Rambo 2, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, and Wall Street)
14:20 The patrol boat is called "Behn Gazaarah", a tribute to actor and director Ben Gazzara.
The sequels are pretty good too.
@@Rikard_NilssonSeries 4 of Black Adder
1:32 Simone does a pretty good William Shatner imitation! 😄
Also I'm pretty sure "Dead Alive"/"Brain Dead" is the bloodiest movie ever.
Hopefully they’ll react to that one someday!
23:16 satire on American gladiators
Great reaction! This was a personal favorite back in the day but I didn't enjoy it very much this time around. But at least you two helped me remember what it was like.
The movie spoofs many things but one of the least-talked-about films these days is a pretty good 1987 Kevin Costner thriller No Way Out that's the basis of one of the scenes here.
No Way Out is actually a really good suspense thriller, but these days people mostly remember it for that scene in the back of the limo, for obvious reasons.
This has been one of fav comedy/spoof movies since the early 90s
Well obviously now you guys need to watch the movie Wall Street with Charlie Sheen, Martin Sheen and Michael Douglas. It's one of the quintessential movies of the 1980's.
Johnny English is a great Spoofy movie with Rowan Atkinson.
As always love the reaction.
Some really good Rowan Atkinson movies are the _"Johnny English"_ trilogy.
He's also in the 2003 _"Scooby Doo"_ movie with Sarah Michelle Gellar & Freddie Prinze Jr
And _"Rat Race"_ with John Cleese, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Lovitz, Seth Green & Cuba Gooding Jr
"I see you are no stranger to pain."
"I've been married. . . . . TWICE."
"Woah!"
One of the best jokes ever!
I love that they got the "Troutman" actor for this!
He actually says "Oy!" which is hilarious coming from an Iraqi soldier.
*Richard Crenna
The women fighting at the end was from a TV show called gladiators. It was one of my favourite shows as a child.
I was slightly distracted but clearly heard Simone say "We love the bean." I immediately turned around and said - did she really say that?
And that ending part was a parody of the TV show from the 90s - American Gladiators.
You have no idea how much I laughed as a teenager watching the chicken progress from chicken to arrow when I was a tween.
It's hilarious how well Joe Biden was parodied in a movie released 28 years before he was elected president
Joe Biden was a military veteran/former military commander?
23:00 That game show was called American Gladiators. It ran for several years and was brought back a few years ago but I don't think it lasted. You guys should watch a couple of episodes. I believe it came out after the movie Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger was released as a next best thing and it was pretty popular for a while.
Fun Fact: This movie’s title is what inspired my channel to have the “Deux” part of my channel’s title.
The spaghetti/meatball roll was an homage to the Disney film Lady and the Tramp. Worth checking out all by its lonesome.
Lots of the spaghetti came from the Disney cartoon Lady and the Tramp.
The Gameschow was a spoof on American Gladiator.
The president in this is still better than Biden 😂
The speed text at the start can be explained by submarines using Very Low Frequency comms, a rate of 50 baud - 5 bytes a second. If they're using standard ASCII of 8 bits per letter, thats 5 letters per second, so it would be slow to appear on the screen 🧐
the president in this film reminds me of joe biden. Its uncanny
The Martin Sheen Apocalypse Now gag is one of the greatest in cinema. Fight me.
You can see Simone trying to figure out George's fathers before them comment.
And then 2 mins later...."I just figured that out".
🤣 🤣 🤣
