I thought Gemstone eyes was a reference to Applejack smashing some gems so hard they went into blind ponies eyes and granted them their sight back

g1 aj was incredible. she banged on a crystal throne hard that the ground cracked open, literally killing the king that enslaved the twinkle eye ponies. i wonder how many g4 problems would be easily solved if g1 applejack showed up.

It's not disability erasure. They couldn't see in the light because of how long they'd been in mines, think of the gems like giving someone who is light sensitive sunglasses.

I really love the g2 pony body molds! They're more slender and elegant than any other generation, I love how dainty their snouts are
One thing that should’ve been added to the iceberg is the Rainbow Bridge symbolism in the PC game. When your pony is sent over the bridge, given what it means for beloved pets, it’s pretty much symbolizing that it passed on.
Also, I’m pretty sure Sun Sparkle was marketed in that playset to be a queen. In the French commercial for it, one of the kids say “Vive la Reine!”
i wonder what a g2 show or movie would be like, it's so interesting that it's the only generation that never got anything like that, i think the toys are pretty cute and the box art and animation from that game would translate well for a show or movie
That and I think it's the earliest style that closest resembles the g4 designs, which we all know was super popular for its design (rounder features, taller, less pronounced snouts .ect)
I think it's a possibility that they missed out big time with not making a show or movie with it
@@almond3066 yeah i much prefer the cutesy cartoony art style from g4 over the semi realistic horse style from g3 and i feel like g2 falls in a similar cutesy cartoony territory. i also like how tall and lanky they are compared to the short stubby g1 and g3 it makes them stand out and makes them more interesting

P.S. 12:30 "Ponies in her family have *gem colour* eyes." actually refers to the character profiles from the PC game. In Light Heart's playhouse, you can learn more about the characters through their profiles; in each one it ends with the above sentence, implying that ponies that share the same colour of gemstones are related (whether their sisters, brothers, cousins, etc.). Just wanted to put that out there. 😊
Neat to see someone covering G2! I think a possible reason for Hip Holly's inclusion in the iceberg is that she was discontinued early due to her tendency to quickly become sticky. Something about plasticizer leakage, if I recall. Due to the early discontinuation, Hip Holly is considerably rarer than other ponies that came out the same year, and she's now a valuable collector's item. That being said, Hip Holly's inherent defect makes her something of a hazard to other ponies, requiring separate storage from other ponies so as not to contaminate them with sticky chemical residue. More trouble than it's worth, as far as I'm concerned.
You're actually right on that! I included Hip Holly on the iceberg for that reason, and also because I've always wanted her in my collection; long, long before I got my hands on my first G2 pony (a magic motion Ivy). She's also a very unique pony in general, so I knew I had to include her.
i swear you're like the only person in the brony fandom that does their research on older generations. kinda bothers me how many bronies think mlp was always a tv show with merch.
Ah!!! I'm so happy that finally someone talks about this amazing generation! I'm currently working on redesigning G2 ponies, and making the small comics with them... hopefully it will work out, and we will get the adaptation we deserved
Hell yeah, the best pony generation for Me. The toys and playsets are pure gems and the quality of them is top tier.
I grew up with G2 and a bit of G1 yes I'm a millennial it's too bad that there wasn't a cartoon of it yes MLP was and still is popular in Europe since I'm from the UK this brings me so much nostalgia

Did you know? Magic Motion was a gimmick also used for LPS! It included LPS toys who move their tounges or paws when interacting with objects or playsets.

It's kinda surreal to see stuff on one of these icebergs that I remember having. I remember spending hours upon hours upon hours in Friendship Gardens while My Brother had this Tonka construction game (one of the few games he owned that he also let me play. It was a lot of fun when I decided I was done taking care of my ponies.) The Happy Meal carry cases as well, I remember owning three of those. Iceberg videos don't usually stir anything up in me, but this one brought back so many memories of things I hadn't thought about in years.

It is unfortunate that G2 never got a show, I get the impression that the show would be very "Cottagecore", for a lack of a better term. I also suppose that it could resemble the comics.
I wonder whether G2 being plastered on Tales media contributed at all to the confusion between G2 and Tales.
I want to note that a mark on a pony's hoof, such as the rainbows/Hasbro logo, etc. (besides the rainbow, that stuff is pretty hard to see on G2, I swear), ponies typically have the Hasbro and My Little Pony logo somewhere on their hooves, it's very visible on G1s.
I am quite certain that G2 just renamed characters, rather than them being separate in some cases. There are numerous releases that are identical/very nearly identical with different names, especially the main ponies later on in the generation's life.
I've heard that apparently, the My Little Pony fandom at the time was very conflicted about G2, some people defending it, others being very much opposed to it. I suppose the conflicted response to G5 was history repeating itself, aha! It's understandable, before G2, there was never a long-term change to the general style of the ponies, it was the first generation change. (Heck, the term "generation" didn't even exist until G3). I feel as though some bronies had a similar feeling, many had only really known about G4, and when there was a change, especially one that wasn't so much their taste, it was difficult to accept.

Its a shame G2 didn’t take off as much, as much as I’ve grown to like the chunky G1 ponies for their uniqueness, the G2 ones are really pretty - I even actually like their versions of baby ponies. I’m glad they at least did well in Europe.
I have the ‘98 McDonald’s Sundance! Fun fact, that version of the toy has the entire iris/pupil covered by a gem (kinda like the g1 twinkle eyed ponies) rather than just having the shine in the eye be a gem!

I’m not sure if it’s just for the UK, but I recall a couple G1 backcards implying that several non-unicorns can use magic (e.g.: Medley being able to make music by moving parts of her body) but I don’t think it was every explicitly called that, and there’s other G1 sources that say only Unicorns have magic. I think it’s the same effect that several 80s/90s brands have of being somewhat disorganised, likely because they didn’t expect it to get so big, so there were few rules laid out for designers and writers to follow. Somewhat similar to Pokémon with how there are a lot of oddities in Gen 1 / 2.
The UK G1 Comics did imply that all the ponies could use magic and many other creatures use Magic too
Silver Swirl is one of my favourite pony character designs from across all generations. So sad we never saw her in animation.

its so exciting hearing someone acknowledge the existence of the friendship gardens game!! i played it so much when i was little, on my dad's computer :) the main theme calms me so much and i still listen to it sometimes. i think that game is also one of the things that really made my love for animation blossom during my adolescence. i was OBSESSED with interactive games that had 2d animation in them. meaning i was also very in love with the old disney interactive pc games that had so many amazing 2d animations that you could interact with. that shits makes me so unnecessarily happy oh my god

I grew up playing with all of the year 1 releases (including the playset). I later asked my mom for another pony toy for my bday and got a g3 one... I hated it and it immediately became the "evil" pony of my imaginary scenarios.

Only 98's Mcdonald's toys didn't have gemstones (except for Sundance)and some merchandise stuff, All of the toys had and the 99's Mcdonald's. Sadly the eyes from toys sometimes pops off, depends on prob how youa re aking care of them.

I actually own the friendship gardens CD game! While a bit laggy, it was a bit fun! A big core memory of my childhood. (and yes I think it was in English from what I remember)

Love the video! I actually grew up on MLP G2, had multiple of the toys and also had the Friendship Gardens game. Constantly played it, over and over. I cannot tell you how many ponies I had made in Friendship gardens at like 7 years old, lol.

I think her gimmick was literally just speaking Spanish? I don’t remember her name, but I think her color scheme was just…pink.

Shunks, I agree with you on this video. It's a shame G2 was seen as a failure, which really wasn't deserved, I feel. The reason it failed, from what I've read about it, was that people assumed the G2 Ponies weren't MLP and mistook them to be knock-offs trying to be MLP or something along those lines, despite (or) because of the very few actual knock-offs. Anyway the G2 Ponies weren't really that bad in themselves just different from the G1 Ponies (although I feel that the G1Teenage Ponies line, kind of resembled the G2 ponies except they were taller and didn't have the gem eyes), I think back then before MLP and Transformers were rebooted into their G2 eras which were the first such major toy reboots, reboots like this were fairly uncommon and people generally don't still even today don't like change very much, kind of like how some find it hard to even give G5 a chance a few even 'haiting on it because of their love of G4, speaking of G4, there was a few eho actually disliked G4 at first simply because it wasn't G1 or G3... a simular reason as tho what killed G2 before it even had a chance, from what I read on some of the characters character profiles and G2's backstory (what little I could find of it), It could have possibly made a great cartoon series I guess, it would have been something halfway between G3 and G1, with a bit of G4, I think also the use of G2 ponies on box art for the G1 DVD releases may have added to the confusion between G1 Pony Tales and G2, as well as the unfortunate lak of a G2 cartoon series maybe) maybe one day, Hasbro could do a revival of G2 somehow or perhaps make a multi-generational MLP film with Princess Sun-Dancer/Sparkle as a or the main character. (I have a headcanon that Sun-Dancer/Sparkle may have been an ancestor to Twilight Sparkle and Sunny Starscout in some way). I recently downloaded the Friendship Garden game and thought it was good. Very 90s nostalgia, although saying that I didn't even realise there was a G2 0r G3 until I saw G4. I assumed MLP had disappeared after G1 had seemingly faded away sometime in the 80s, of course I was wrong there, lol.
Ah, that must be why ponies have gone back to being short and fat. (Though nowhere near as fat as G1 ponies)

Interesting video. However, there’s an error when you say g2 was the first time my little introduced all ponies having powers, as g1 comics have everyone a power pretty much.
Also, the core four are never mentioned. Sundance, Light Heart, Sweet Berry and Ivy are pretty common releases and got printed on most merch. Sky Skimmer and Morining Golory too. Also, Sky Skimmer is based on Posey, who inspired Fluttershy and has a butterfly cutie mark.

Gen 2 was my childhood, even as an American. I had the Friendship Garden video game and soooo many of the ponies. I still own a few of them to this day, as well as the play set. I still have my McDonald's Ivy brushable too! ❤️

oh my god I have one of the g2 fakies with the wing saddle thing at 16:28, she's got ivy's colors and cutie mark! i have very vague memories of my parents buying her for me at some little toy store while we were on vacation, probably near the jersey shore in the late 90s. i remember her having a crown like in the photo but i think i lost that long ago--i do remember it had a little hole in the bottom to place it over the unicorn horn ! she still has both her collar (which I don't think can be removed without breaking it) and wing saddle. however because of the red metallic paint on those, it has rubbed off on her body over the years making her look unfortunately rather bloodstained XD the saddle with sparkly wings was my favorite part, i would put it on my other toys to give them wings, usually my beanie babie cats which looked kinda silly but hey i was having fun, lol.

Oh my goodness! I used to have some of the Gen 1 dvds as a kid, and the dvd had that artwork on it. I remember that! So that was Gen 2 artwork! Cool.
My friend made this theory. G4 is the beginning of the timeliness and g5 is a couple hundred years after and g2 is a couple of millennium later where after an apocalypse that killed alot of ponies and the only survivors are some unicorns and earth ponies. No mention of g1 or g3 tho

I know about Generation 2 because I used to have the my little pony figures generation two figures from McDonald's, I don't have them any more but I do have the FIM/generation 4 ones from McDonald's I have most of them just only a very few I am missing I all of the first and second sets from FIM, the movie, and the only ones I am missing are Pony Pinkie (from equestria girls but I do have her human form) the twilight with the color changing tail (I have the others though) and the twilight with the light up horn (the set where the ponies look like chibis (I forgot what that set was called) I have all of them except for Twilight)

I've tried playing Friendship Gardens with an ISO image. Sadly, it doesn't work. Whether you install it on your OS or a virtual machine, all that happens is the game gets stuck on a black screen.
I have 3 g2 ponies and a 1999 mcdonlads toy! I also have a g2 dvd: I haven't watched it yet so I'm not sure if it's actually a g2 cartoon

I personally don't believe that any of the MLP generations are connected (with the exeption of G4 and G5, since G5 is the future of the G4 world). They're all just too different. They're reimagined versions of previous generations, and their friendship circles are all different too. Like G3 Pinkie Pie is bffs with Minty, and G4 is in a new friend group and has a more extreme personality. They are two different characters. If G2 is it's own dimension, then all generations exept G4/5 are.
In fim they measure time in "moons" . So maybe they still use month long years
