as a member of the mlp collector community, ESPECIALLY g3: THIS WAS LOST MEDIA!! we dont even have this listed on ANY of our wikis! all we had listed was a book released for the original story reader, star catcher's starlight party. thank you SO much for work finding and releasing this.
back in the 2010s, there was a mobile game called Blocksworld that was relatively obscure. It had a somewhat sizeable online community, but I never saw it talked about on youtube or anything. I remember them doing an official Hasbro collaboration where you could purchase a mlp bundle. This allowed you to make games with the pony themed assets and play as the characters. Might be interesting to look into.
You know, the most obscure piece of Mlp media to me is the 2012 mcdonalds flash game for the app store that Mcdonalds rolled out when Equestria Girls released. I have found rarely any media covering it and it was a scannable game you could play if you had the toys with the pattern. Its unplayable today but I really miss that game for some reason still. small edit: HELLO I DIDNT EXPECT SO MANY PEOPLE TO REMEMBER THIS??? even if its 35! i thought i was the only one idk 😭
@@Angelstarr.Yeah I wonder if those toys are on ebay because i recall it could've been on the cutie mark magic line too? I dont remember because its been like a good 9 or 8 years lol
Someone I know on Discord, Fortune Star does have the full "The Glass Princess" episode with the cut scene, he has it on his RUclips channel of the same name
COMMON. SHUNKS. BANGER! This awoke some ancient memory of a autoreader I had of the Lion King that looked really similar to the one from the video, but I have no idea if it actually was a story reader. There are only so many ways you can recount the story of the Lion King via childrens book, ya know. Either way, good video!!
this reminded me of this Mickey Mouse Clubhouse flash game where you planned a birthday party and i can’t believe i remembered it 😭 i was probably around five or so when i first played it
I still wanna see you cover the post-Them's Fightin' Herds pony Steam games They're nowhere near as obscure as this, but they aren't very well known overall. I've gone into detail on D'LIRIUM before, but some other ones of note are - MareQuest - Slaugter Horse 2 - Filly Astray - Get Your Tentacles Off My Waifu - Tales From the Herd
3:36 funnily enough, SEGA actually put their foot in their race for a little bit! it was called the Pico, which was basically the Story Reader with Genesis hardware
oh my god i just started the video but the mention of the mlp g1 song. i swear to god i had an (i guess bootleg?) tape with that song on it because seeing it reawakened such a vivid memory i don't remember having. i would look for the tape now, but it belonged to my grandmother and her tapes were all sold after she died. absolutely wild to think about though.
I remember when I was little i used to play a official G4 Hasbro game about you customizing a pony and getting animations of your pony with the mane six, I don’t remember it well but you could also play mini games. You’d have to clear the sky with rainbow dash, harvests apples in sweet apple acres and pack candies in Sugarcube Corner (and Pinkie Pie was the one giving you the candy, and you could feed her some) I don’t remember if the first part and mini games were separate games, but many people confuse it with a game exactly like this but you could walk around ponyville and you had to earn money to unlock accesories
Im excited for the lps video game video, I own the wii one and all the ds ones (not much difference between them, but i loved those as a kid) i dont see many videos talking about them
shunks posting my beloved. anyway anyone remember a weird knockoff mlp mobile game about taking care of a baby pony and you could like abuse the poor little critter ??
OMG I REMEMBER SEEING THAT ONE ON THE APP STORE WHEN I WAS LIKE, 8!!! From what i gathered, it was a parody of weird pony flash games made by a brony or something and they had to change the name of the game to "pony torture" because so many little kids were downloading the game on accident and the dev ended up getting a lot of backlash from parents
I had a VSmile, Leapfrog, AND a DSI lmao I genuinely enjoyed them all too, I genuinely miss one of the leapfrog games I had bc it was not educational in the slightest it was like, a pet care game
That one G1 song had to have been on one of the DVD releases, because I remember watching that episode and the song was included. Unfortunately don't think I own the DVD anymore.
OOH my god, I remember this!! I never had it, but a friend of mine had, and I always though it was part of the leapstear or the v-tech series. Thank you for this and the whole work you put for g3 stuff. Keep up the good work!
I'VE NEVER BEEN SO HYPED FOR A VIDEO LIKE I HAVE AT THE TEASE AT THE END I was so OBSESSED with the LPS games as a kid!! LPS Friends still holds up all things considered! The cake mini game gets fucking insane I love playing it still
shunks you should make a video on the mlp infection aus that have been really popular on tiktok as of late!! i would love to see you do a deep dive on it
if you want to try some mlp fangames, there's this one i found recently in the play store called Slaughter Horse 2. It's inspired by creepypastas like cupcakes, but it's not graphic as far as im aware, just has the classic creepy themes. It has interesting mechanics and story, and it's mostly based on strategy, tho it's a little hard, haven't been able to win yet.
as someone who loved the lps nintendo games so much as a kid that i cried when i beat one of them bc i was sad it was over, i am very excited 2 see u covering lps games in teh near future!!!! kid me is crying with joy teehee :3
DONT FORGET ABOUT MLP PUZZLE PARTY SHUNKS!! ITS LOST MEDIA!! And I dont remember u talking about Friendship Club yet but its an oldish mlp site that was a paid membership scheme :)
Just the word "vtech" had me sending, I loved both the v-reader and something I called the "pink game" which is like a knockoff 3DS [I still don't know the actual name]
I OWNED THIS AS A KID OMG. I completely forgot about the Story Reader thing, I used to swing it around by the handle a lot. If I remember correctly I broke the thing sometime after getting that Pinkie Pie book, so then I couldn't even play the games or anything :(
Hello, SpongeRobert SquareTrousers story preservationist here. I'd just like to go on record to say this video does an amazing job of documenting this obscure piece of edutainment history. the Go Diego Go and Little Mermaid games/stories are indeed real, but it's a mystery if they were ever released... the only evidence of their existence comes from advertising on the back of the SpongeBob book (i have a community post with the aforementioned back of the book) in which cover, and cartridge art is shown. The best possible explanation I can think of is that they were cancelled after the console gained little to no success.. Really enjoyed watching this, thanks for the brief shoutout! ^^
omg! I had the story reader as a kid, I THINK I may of owned the mlp book & cartridge, but it's lost regardless anyway, super cool to see something from my childhood >:3
Ok, I remember some obscure mlp fangame that I'm trying to find. It starts off with Fluttershy talking Twilight, then Dash steals Twilight's horn (with Fluttershy repeatedly saying "I'm sorry") and I think says something about narwhals. What else I remember is Pinkie being a boss.
Will you be a video about the new trend of mlp infection that's been popping off on TikTok? I definitely think it would gain a lot of traction if you did because people have been obsessing over it :0

Idk why but the ending of the video with the Patreon shoutouts just gave me a chill of nostalgia. As well as the beginning
