From the time I first listened to this lady's videos I found her points of view smart and interesting and now I'm completely sold. For years I've had the problem when I wash my face in the sink of drippy elbows. After 20 some-odd years it just occurred to me that the sink is too high (ok or I am too short for the sink I have). I could have saved a lot of time and wet towels by just listening to Liz .... Thanks for always sharing some useful insights, Liz.
Timely, and thanks. When I finish my DesignSherpa-guided kitchen rebuild, I am starting on my tiny bathroom. I had not thought about the blocking for grab bars and was looking at another way of shower entry, which involved a low lip, not any more (Mwah-hah-hah-hah)
Great as always! Great idea about the blockers (who knew) and the small ties = more grout = less slippage. I don’t like grout so I was going to do large tiles but will reconsider. So enjoy your videos they are sooo educational and love the blunt honesty, dont talk around the bush style!!! 😊!

As a person who is preparing to do a bathroom renovation, I am definitely using this video to make a checklist of the things I need to consider. Thank you!
A word about those rain style shower heads. But first, my wife and I love your videos! The problem I find with rain style shower heads is that the water is coming straight down on you instead of at you at an angle. When the water is coming straight down, the only way to have the water on you is to be directly under it. Not great if you don't want your head under the water. When the water is coming at you at an angle, you can adjust how much of your body is in the water stream by moving further or closer to the shower head. Can't do that with a rain head. Just my experience. Thanks for listening!
@@lizbiancoismydesignsherpa We are currently putting back together 2 gutted full bathrooms. One of them with a MAAX soaker tub, toilet & vanity, the other with a 36" x 72" shower, two sink vanity, toilet and a 36" 3 drawer unit with a cabinet above it. They are part of a full renovation including relocating the kitchen and removing load bearing walls with a 24' LVL beam. My wife and I are performing all of the work except the hardwood flooring. It's been a great project! Your tips have been helpful throughout!
Also, put the exhaust fan in the shower. It's the only way to effectively remove the steam. And if you can, put the toilet between the door and the exhaust fan so the air being pulled from under the door passes the toilet and grabs odors on its way to the exhaust.
I love your videos!! They are full of fun and facts! Big round of applause to you for identifying the "big" basin idiocy in bathrooms!! I am remodeling a small bathroom and adding another small bathroom. As you said, all you do is brush your teeth and wash your face in this sink!! I have searched for and will purchase THE smallest basin I can find @12". Also, I am "left" justifying the sink in my small en suite to give me more landing space on the counter. Whoever decided the sink needed to be in the middle! anyway!! LUVU!
I don’t have any windows or skylights in my bathroom and surprisingly have never missed it outside of when I’ve lost power. I have a wet rated pot light in the tub/shower combo, two wall sconces on either side of the mirror over the vanity, and another wall sconce that sticks out further above a different mirror (old wood medicine cabinet door over a storage niche and toilet. The middle of the room has a ceiling fan without a light.
@@lizbiancoismydesignsherpa Thank you for the great tips. I’m preparing for a custom build and I feel armed and dangerous with all your info…. A little overwhelmed, but better prepared.
I'll tell you what.... This video made me stop the framers dead in their tracks and narrow the 3' thresholdless shower opening we had down to 2' so we won't be freezing our heads off nearly as much as if it were succeptable to more air circulation
I am remodeling my house, and one bathroom (as well as the powder room) will not have a window. There is no option for one, as they are on the interior of the house. My designer suggested putting sun tunnels in both of them, to bring in natural light. Do you have any thoughts on those? Better than nothing?
Great insights. Our only bathroom is the same as this one, except the toilet is on the same wall as the sink. Getting ready to remodel. We are replacing the tub (60x32) with a shower. We could not find a contractor who would do curbless, it's in a very old building. Any thougts on the door? There is currently an accordian door. Is it better to have a regular door that swings in...or out into the hallway? Trying to make the best of what we have to work with.
@@lizbiancoismydesignsherpa How to get a sink that doesn't splash? what size? Yes got one of those teen girls myself but I would rather she learn to be tidy and not have splashing.
you have never been in an old apartment in Scandinavia , then you would know that bathroom you are in is like a ballroom! , in the old days people didn't have a bathroom, and the toilet was often in the backyard to share with other people, a lot of these old apartments have had a former closet turned into a toilet where you have to back in and out, the shower is above or next to the toilet and the entire toilet will get wet as it is taking a shower with you, some of the apartments have taken a piece of the already small kitchen to be able to create a small shower niece

Yes I agree a lower sink makes so much sense!
Amen on the wet elbows! I've been accommodating the giants I live with for years with higher counters, but no more!
To everyone currently stuck with a too high vanity, get some wrist scrunchies to save your sanity until you can replace the vanity!

Liz, as usual enjoyed your insights on planning bathroom. Definitely will be looking into the zero clearance and the bracing for mounting hand holds!

Thanks for watching! You can use big tiles (I despise grout) just make sure they have some grit or tooth to them!
I don't like grout that I have to clean either. So as she mentioned I'm going large format r11 it other anti slip tile
Excellent choice! Daltile has a nice line that meets commercial standards and looks great!

Good points! I like options, so having a rain shower only works if it comes with a hand held! 🛀

Is a barn door possible? I’m not a fan in a bath unless it’s necessary and it sounds like maybe? Otherwise you’re dancing around the door!
What about a pocket door?
@@TheMomGeneral Unfortunately, no room for a pocket or barn door. Sigh.
Lower tub sides are for kids bathrooms. If you try to deal with washing a baby or small child in a soaker it will make sense.
The splashing though 🛁
Great advice, thanks!
0 threshold showers or rather then lowered floor for good drainage and for the rest of the bathroom not getting wet?
If they pitch the drain right, it works like a charm!
