Again good one for DIY. Plumber will charge $150. Thanks buddy.
Thank you 🙏🏽!
@@FixThisHouse Bro. the first nut will not damage porcelain? I have 12 years old home and I will change all of them as a precautionary measure. It's cheap and doable.
If the people you live with push back on the tank when taking care of business, the extra nut is a requirement! Without it, the bolt head will just tear through the gasket in no time.

Thank goodness i found your channel! My late husband was a plumber, electrician, carpenter, mechanic, welder, etc. He fixed everything. But when my toilet started leaking, i decided i could find out how to fix it. Thats when i found your channel. Im disabled but my adult daughter and i watched your video on how to fix a leaky toilet. Daughter got it done in no time. You explained each step to take. Clear and precise. We cannot thank you enough sir. We're loyal followers of yours now. Thanks again! 😊
This is a good video presentation about how to deal with a common toilet leak. If you are ever planning on installing a new toilet or you need to otherwise replace a toilet, consider buying a toilet version that is one piece with the tank and bowl made as a single unit. These are available from American Standard and others. This type eliminates any chance of leaks between the tank and the bowl.
Thanks, I like that!
They are VERY heavy and awkward to handle.
@@Ocalaman get a dolly and blanket
@@Ocalaman Good point. A lot of us don't have the upperbody strength to handle that.
I like this video as well. Totally descriptive and thorough thank you.
Awesome! Thank you for taking the time to share this DIY fix. It helped me fix my leak! My local plumbing companies quoted me a flat rate between $125-$150 I saved $134 after purchasing the kit and installing it myself. Once again thank you for sharing!
I’m glad, I could be of help and I’m always happy to hear you saved alot of money! 🙏🏽😊
Excellent video. I watched about 25 videos before replacing all the parts inside the tank, and none of them, including this one told me the following!
You need to come back about 10 days after install and re-tighten the two retaining nuts. The weight of all the water in the tank will compress the main seal (donut sized seal) below the tank and the tank will become wobbly.
I definitely admire the step by step process in this video presentation on how to fix just about any household problems like these. Thank you!
Thank you for an incredibly helpful tutorial. I was able to replace all of the nuts, bolts, gaskets and wax ring on my own.. first time ever! Saved me from using a plumber. Saved me a lot money, but mostly very satisfied knowing I was able to do without paying someone to do. Thank you!
Yes! And now you will always know how to do this repair. And you might have confidence to try other stuff, too.
@@theresedillon6717 - There's nothing like the satisfaction you get when you successfully fix something your own self!
Excellent, DIY, this clip just gave me a clearer picture of what to do with a nasty water leak that I just discovered below our toilet tank!
Thank You ! God bless.
I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊
No nonsense, straight to it, properly explained. Well done and thank you
I don't wanna seem, you know, pushy, but you have a drastically relaxing voice. You should definitely make more videos. It's just plain old fashioned calm as hell and that's important to me for some bizarre reason. Thank you for this video. You're awesome.
Thank you so much. You have shown a professional clean way of fastening the bolts/nuts to the tank!! Awesome.
Thank you! Easy to follow instructions saved me hundreds.
THANK YOU!!! The step at 5:51 is what I was missing as what I had taken off didn't have the washer/nut placed there. Couldn't figure out why there was still a leak after following the instructions from the company I purchased it from. I appreciate this video.
An excellent instructional video, particularly using a fluid syringe to remove unflushed water from the tank. $20 for the syringe and gasket kit, saving a $150 plumber's charge. Thanks!
Spent today trying to mitigate this and came across this video. I've ordered the kit! Thank you! You've saved me from having to deal with plumber expenses and my strata!
Thank you! Followed this and fixed it myself. Longest and hardest part was cleaning the tank and holes around the base. The rest was pretty straight forward. Saved me a nice chunk of $$$. Plumbers in my area don't come out for less than $200. Greatly appreciate the step by step and options.
First time home buyer and know nothing about house repairs. This video was simple and easy to follow. My house is OLD so I'll be watching a lot!!🔧🔨🪛🔩
VERY helpful video, saved my $300!!! The ONE and only caveat, when you put the gasket in, make sure you get it seated properly on the tank top... there was an adapter on mine that I initially did not see (didn't take the intake line off, should have so I could get a better view of everything) and I didn't get the gasket seated completely before I put it back together... found a leak almost immediately and watched your video again to make sure I had everything in the correct sequence... simply a USER ERROR, and second try was the trick. THANK YOU for this video!!
always a good idea to pay a bit more and use brass or SS hardware. bolts will eventually rust through and wreak havac.
I ended up replacing the big gasket, long screws, etc. You explained and showed everything so it was super simple for a novice (ME) to follow. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this video I had this same problem today. I did what you said in the video and got the new rubber from home depot and put it on and no leaks. Thank you for this you are a blessing. God bless you and your family 🙏👍💪
Excellent video! Very well done. I’ll do my repair tomorrow. Thank you
Thank you so much!!!!!! I'm headed to my mother's today to replace her tank bolts and gaskets
@danuellewalker8587 - Have to tell you, this comment cracked me up - sounds like your mom might be bionic or something!
Having the same issue right now with our toilet tank. Thanks Bro. God bless you. 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤😊😊😊
Well done, well made. Thanks man!
You're very good at demonstration and explanation.❤
Thank you so much for love and support 🙏🏽😊
Man you are God sent! Simple video straight to the point. Exactly my current issue, thanks my brotha
this was GREAT, thank you. i did the replacement with a new kit. there seems to be a very very small drip from the tank bolts. maybe three drops a day.
should i just let it go or try to re-tighten? i’m afraid to crack the porcelain by tightening more.
again, thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing❤. For a woman like me who’d rather do it so that I can save, your clip is of great help 😍😍😊Again thank you 😊❤❤❤ from 🇵🇭
Thank you! Found that one of the tank bolts had rusted completely and no longer holding the tank to the bowl securely! I think I will also follow the advice of another commentor and tighten the tank bolts in another day or so.
Too many of my diy projects become snafu's but this worked perfectly!
Thank you
Great work on this video. Simple to follow and your explanations are great too.
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽😊
Thanks my friend! I kept trying and trying to fixt the tank and it kept leaking, until I watched your video and followed your advice. Thank you!!
I’m glad I could be of help! 👍🏽😊🙏🏽
Thank you for sharing this video. This video is helpful.
I use a turkey baster for most stuff, makes a decent cheap syringe. It's not airtight but if you can transfer the liquid fast enough, it works great
Thank you! Easy DIY project thanks to your video.
I’m glad I could be of help! 👍🏽😊🙏🏽
I think this is exactly what is leaking, thanks for this video!
I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊
Thank Bro! I appreciate your channel and this video. Followed your instructions and leak is fixed. Wife is very happy and so am I! Happy wife, happy life 👍🏾
Exactly my problem right now, thank you for showing me how to fix it.❤❤🎉
Very nicely explained the whole process. Thanks for the video. What if the bolts are not properly tighten... could this also be a reason of leak?
Well done DIY video. I got this now. Thanks 'Fix This House'.
Hi. Thanks for taking the time to post this. One thing; the view of inside the tank @1:53 shows a metal washer between the bolt head and rubber washer on each of the hold down bolts. Is there a reason why you didn't use metal washers when you put it back together? From what I can tell, there were 4 washers in the replacement kit.
Thanks bro. Just fixed mine while watching your video. Very helpful thank you
Awesome video 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for this video, clear, short and very helpful.
Bro, thank you it took me forever to find your video. This is the problem I’m having I rebuilt it and it started leaking on that right side bottom so I need to redo it all just like you did thank you man appreciate it. This video really helped me out I couldn’t figure out why the hell it was leaking. Thank you so much. Your video is right on the money. Appreciate you dude.
Excellent video. Cheers from Michael. Australia
Thanks for sharing!
Wouldn't gob of silicone seal around screws inside tank be easier and cheaper?
Plumbers putty. It's the best!!!
I was thinking the same.
Very helpful thanks I fixed the problem going thru your recommendations 😎😎👍👍😁
Great visual and instruction. Thank you
Thanks! Now I have a solution for my weekend project!
I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊👍🏽
Thank you so much sir I had to do the same thing I also made sure I did not tighten them to tight because of porcelain
Amazing detail in this video my friend! Great job and definitely saved me over $100 as well, thank you!
One of the best DIY out there. Count me in as new subscriber!
Great step-by-step video 👍🏿
Thanks man! This helped me a lot, first time I tried doing something like this myself and it’s seeming to work great. (Kinda nervous the leak will somehow show back up lol but it’s been a couple hours and it’s looking good, so I’m most likely just being too paranoid lol)
The best video out there on this topic - thanks a bunch!!!
Good video...thanks for the help 👍.
At 6:25, why did you place the second gasket at the end of the screw? Doesn't it make a lot more sense to "sandwich" the porcelain between the gaskets? Screw head, gasket, through the hole, gasket, washer, nut. Tight nut. Place tank, another washer and nut.
Excellent question. Adding a second rubber gasket to the bottom of the tank wouldn't necessarily seal it any more that it already is. The top part has a wide-head bolt that seals it off, but the bottom would have a possible unsealed part between the bolt and the nut just past the washer. It's not sealed like the top part even with an extra gasket added. It also weakens the compression on the inside, sort of cutting it in half between the two gaskets. Instead of one strong link in the chain there's now two weaker ones. It's better just to use the metal washer on the outside of the tank, again not too tight that it might crack the porcelain. I'm guessing that's why his option is not mentioned in any of the official instructions that you get with the tank bolt sets, because DIY'ers would occasionally be cracking the porcelain, but it does work very well in preventing long-term leaks. (Not a plumber, just fixing my own stuff for centuries).
Your videos are so good and clear!!!! Just Great!!! I subscribed immediately the first time I saw one!!!! Thanks!!!
Thank you so much for this video . Just followed your steps and it worked. No more leaks. 👏👏🙏
I love how he explains and demonstrates
Awesome, great great video, so well done, so clear.
Thank you so much!
Use rubber gaskets on bottom of tank also. Get extra nut and rubber kits do not provide 5:51 .
Thanks for this video...very helpful
Thanks for the tip.... Will try this weekend.
Thanks for the video very helpful.
Thank you so much! 😉👍
Great video I have a crack at the base I made from constipation. I’m going to Jb weld it
An excellent video. Sir, when I went to the thumbs up to click on it, up came "I dislike this." Just to try, I put my cursor on thumbs down, and it said, "I dislike this," as it should. You might want to check into this. Thank you so much as tomorrow I'm going to try again for about the fourth time to do this job without it leaking. I have not put the extra washer and screw under the tank before. Perhaps that will solve my leaking problem.
Thanks your video helping me fix my toilet.
Thanks for posting the video. really helpful.
Thank you very much.
Very well explained. Thanks
Great job 👏🏾
Thank you so much! 👍🏽🙏🏽😊
Excellent video! Clear explanation. Very helpful
Is this kit universal for all toilet bolts? Thanks.
That one handed nut install while the other hand holds the camera...nice.
Your videos are awesome. I had a question about whatever gasket is present for the supply line. Is that ever the culprit for a leak? I've never really done anything other than pulling old toilets or attaching the new ones. Thank you in advance for your answer and thank you for posting them. You're very good at explaining things. I appreciate it.
And I apologize for being dense about measurements but how would I find if it's a 2" or 3" tank gasket? Thank you again for any answers.
Thank you!👍
Just happened to us for the first time I just started fixing the toilet issues recently and I picked up the parts going to try this tomorrow thank you for all of the information I’m going to try that method so it doesn’t leak in the future
thank you for the video, it helped me a lot.
Thank you! I do love your videos
I have this problem and thank you for showing how to do it.
Thank you my friend!
I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊
Yours originally had a washer then a rubber gasket inside the bowl. Toward the end, you didn't use this same setup. Why is that?
Great video. Now, I know what to do! Hey, why add a gasket underneath the bowl nut? I would think the gasket in the tank is enough or place the gaskets between the outer and inner sides of the tank. Please let me know 'cause I'm about to rip my bowl apart.
Actually helpful 👍
Great video.. I just fixed my Mom toilet using your video, thank you!
Well video taped and we'll demonstrated and spoken...EXCELLENT
Thinking I might try this too. Thanking Jesus for you
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽😊
Nice video,very helpful
Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
Id put the lower seal with the second nut...seal on both sides of tank bottom
Would also help prevent cracking.
Definitely did not notice this was wrong until it leaked afterwards for me. Even instructions on the box state this
Thank you for the video
Thank you for watching 🙏🏽😊
THANK YOU!! My crooked plumber was going to charge me $900 to fix this kind of leak!!! I have a problem with people taking advantage of me bc I live alone.. I decided to do it myself and it's been pretty easy except the screws were rusted and even w wd40 extremely hard to remove... but I got stuck on this last step and where to buy the kit. Great video 👍
Gracias
Great video 👍 and subscribed. TY
Thank you so much! 👍🏽🙏🏽😊
excelent thansk for the step by step process
I really needed this video because I have that same leak. I hope the porcelain is not cracked! The toilet sits about 2.5 inches off the wall and wobbles back a little bit.
I’m glad I could be of help!
Thank you I fixed the problem!!
