How to Play Bane in Dungeons & Dragons (Batman Rogue Build for D&D 5e)
HTML-код

- Today we're building Batman's greatest Rogue in Dungeons & Dragons, Bane, the man who broke the bat. Barbarian might seem obvious, but using Bard instead will make a Bane with much more potent Venom to hit more Tom Hardy. In D&D 5e.

I like this build. People forget Bane isn't just a muscle bound brute. He's also a very smart man, and can be very persuasive. This build is perfect.
He also sounds like he's talking into a coffee mug.
Seriously, if you ever want to sound like Bane, just speak slowly into a coffee mug. That's the secret.
Exactly, Bane’s gonna punch you in the god damn mouth, look good while doing it, and it’s all planned.
@@TheAsvarduilProject Only applies to Dark Knight Rises Bane and versions of Bane inspired by him(Harley Quinn and Lego Batman) 95% of Banes spanish sounding
Indeed. I think some barbarian is certainly fitting just because of how extremely tough and strong he is. But definitely not a pure barbarian. He is a very smart man, and rather charismatic. A real complete package. I do love a well rounded villain.
Yeah... no. He also doesn't CAST FUCKING SPELLS. At most he's got expertise in persuasion
Always liked that about Bane, Yeah he's a fricken tank and able to hold his own against the Bat physically, but he break the 'big dumb muscle' trope that surrounds characters like this, and has a tactical genius that can hold its own against the Bat too.
Mhm, and in certain versions he's actually way smarter, he's got power but his brain and force of personality is stronger.
Bane varies alot. Sometimes he's straight Barbarian including his strength being a limited time thing and his intelligence being very low. Other times he's a real buff guy with unarmed skills and tactical brilliance. (Honestly Monk or fighter are probably my highest on the list of what fits for him) And sometimes he's almost ironman in what his weakness is where he might not have a real suit but the man is ONLY defeatable via cutting his tubes to debuff him because Venom makes him tough enough to go toe to toe with Superman for at least a couple minutes, which if he realizes he's fighting supes is probably enough to win the fight(because kryptonite....though I've also seen him uttery wrecked by Supes because he thought it was batman and was not remotely worried about him suddenly being able to lift and toss him through several walls. :P)
No REAL way to emulate that though aside from....maybe Artificer armor themed as his tubes and venom? And then you need to sunder his armor somehow to depower him.
@@Sandman382 Variant characters, that's true of a lot of comic book characters especially Marvel and DC
In fact, in his introduction in the 90's Animated he had many qualities of a hunter, which could have justified at least one level in Ranger to get those tracking skills and also perhaps a knowledge of plants if that was needed to make Venom.
I HAVE SPOKEN!!!
(also I appreciate the 13 ghosts reference haha)
Please don't fire me...
The high lord of RUclips!! Great cross over!
Bigger crossover than Endgame
Also, under appreciated movie
@@tulokthebarbrarian2033 Don't worry. He can't fire you. (readies high level Eldritch Blast reflavored as Force Blast) Because he'll be terminated if he tries...
(I kid. Love ya, NerdSync!)
Intelligence seems a little low for Bane; Dude has gone so far as to kick the venom habit entirely at times because he felt his mind was his greatest asset.
Limitations of building him as a D&D character, of course.
Also that Cha-Cha Slide joke was gold.
Gold? Platinum, no, diamond it is!
All jokes aside, yea hard agree with all this.
Yeah, a lot of people seem to forget that Bane is highly intelligent and a tactical genius; like, he actually INVENTED the Venom Syrum (in most adaptations) and didn't become an unthinking brute until literally years of constant Venom use debilitated his brain, and eventually his endocrine system, nervous system, and gave him muscular atrophy in his old age. (One of the most subtly dark moments of Beyond was seeing old man Bane... shit was depressing...)
Correction he improved the original serum that was part of the Gilgamesh project. It was basically a super soldier project that had a almost 0% survival rate. The only one to survive the procedure that we know of was Bane. Later down the line Bane created an even more improved version of the Venom serum that doesn't make him go stupid immediately after taking it but if he does overdose on it he will go stupid. In the Batman Beyond series we see Bane hooked up to a machine that's pumping Venom into him to keep him alive but he was in a vegetated state as a result of the overuse of Venom over his lifetime.
Oof I remember seeing that Batman beyond episode that episode and the mr freeze episode hit
And a lot of people seem to forget that you can play berserker barbarian without dumping INT/CHA. Exhaustion would probably be more in-character than skipping 1 turn after dropping Haste but who cares i guess.
@@webuser-webloser Tenser's Transformation causes exhaustion
@@somethinoriginal1212 and that's so in-character for Bane to suddenly lose his juice if you bonk him hard enough on the head, right?
The buildup on Twitter and Discord has me super excited for this one. My prediction, in the form of a poem:
Bane’s mask is white.
Venom is green.
This is the strongest bard build I’ve ever seen.
The fact you had to stop and recollect yourself after that Mathew Lillard reference was hilarious. Good on ya for keeping it in, lol.
Between this and Gandalf you're making me appreciate Bard a little more a build at a time
Then I'm doing to lords work
I've got a forest gnome bardificer going on right now. It's great. He's working on creating better chronicling technology and making more interactive storytelling. We've made the first photography in our world using alchemy and magic along with others. My gnome is working on incorporating the photography aspect into a wearable form, so he can take pictures as he fights and moves, which is his basis for taking armorer. Going stealth mode even more.
it is the ultimate "mold into what you want" class
It's starting to look a little OP, honestly. If you can build every archetype from bard class with minimal downsides, why have other classes?
@@benvoliothefirst
You can't though. You can build various types of characters with bard, but bard isn't going to give you everything.
Watching Tulok's slow descent into open warfare with the comments section has really been something.
All he's doing is playing right into trolls hands by continuing to do combat with them.Even when he gets constructive criticism when he gets called out for acting like women are the only group being oppress"Cough" POC and LGBT Cough".Tulok or accusing people of sexism(Kara video) without evidence, He just dismiss them.
Hell,He muted me because I accused him of being a super simp because he's always putting women on a pedestal. You can be for women's right,But not treat them as always the victim,Some will say that's equally sexist.Kind of pathetic that he's become no better then trolls.
@@byronmeir1240 I know I know, old comment and I don't really have a hat in the ring, but him making the Mary Sue jokes like Gary Stu hasn't been a thing is a bit over the top. Comics make justifying character's actions tough because you're essentially reading fanfiction you or someone else paid for, but if you actually have some reasonable story to allow for certain skills (Bane is a combat monster, but I'm going to just ignore being a master fencer) then you can keep holding that suspension of disbelif.
That being said, no one is too fond of, "Right in the nick of time before the bomb goes off, it turns out Brad, fratboy extraordinaire, is also an expert demolitionist because he used to play with fireworks as a young boy." Funny for a one punch line, not so great if your'e immersed in a story. Granted this comment could very well be irrelevant and the guy's calmed down, but it kind of detracted from the video but that's my two cents.
Even if someone makes Bane a straight up Barbarian he should have high Intelligence, would be unique at least
Barbarians with intelligence is one of my low-key favourites. I built a ghost hunting barbarian with I think 16 intelligence, and she’s still one of my favourites to this day.
The problem is that intelligence is basically worthless in 5e other than RP and bing a Wizard/Artificier. I love RP but you can also have him be street smart while not having a high intelligence stat neccesarily.
@@dylanenriguehuntington2908 basically just as better tho. I just take it as what if Grog from Critical Role was a bit more Street smart than luck smart
I was lucky enough to start with gauntlets of ogre strength in a campaign, so I went in a weird direction and dumped Strength on my barbarian. Ended up focusing on dex and con, and int was my third highest stat. He definitely doesn't seem like a barbarian. Until he rages. Lol
@@auroralraconteur3312 How did you luck into those gauntlets at campaign start?
I’m guessing your DM either random rolled for an early treasure & kept the crazy roll. Or, perhaps allowed each player a random item at start, perhaps w a bonus if you took flaws.
Either way works, but the latter would have resulted in a killer Session 0 moment!! :-D
Heck, I’m liking this idea more & more now!
honestly, looking to the comics, he is more so a artificer alchemist who has a drug that makes him into a barbarian
Eh, except alchemist arty doesn't give you access to the stuff that a full-casting class would give, and I think Bane's probably more charismatic than intelligent, at least if we wanna focus on making it work with D&D 5e's limitations on stats.
...im now resisting the urge to add this npc to hunt my players and they go by Bardi-B.
No, no, no- you need to FOLLOW that instinct
Give in to the Bard Side!
Your PCs yelling “Oh no, it’s Bardi-B!” would carry so much Avatar: The Last Airbender energy. You must follow through!
This is my corruption arc. Bardi-B has been willed into existence.
Just make sure there isn't an abjuration wizard nearby...if so the BBEG becomes a Medium Moderarely Effective Guy..
Never realized Bane had a healing factor. That specific superpower really makes a lot of characters hard to build in D&D.
He dosen’t have a healing factor
Second wind, lay on hands, any healing spell from a dip into a spellcaster with a healing spell.
@@juliana.-davis449 He has a healing factor it's one of the basic traits of his Venom.
@@-Offstar that's not a healing factor that's a healing potion
@@Business_Skeleton If you take away Banes Venom he's literally just a guy with above average intelligence. This build video would literally end after "he's a variant human with the soldier background". So any aspects of his Venom are considered a part of him for building his character because without his Venom there is no character to build.
Gonna be honest: I was totally expecting Bane to primarily be an Artificer (Alchemist). Going with Bard was definitely a curveball, but I do like being surprised by these videos.
Alternative to Valor: college of swords' sword flourish calls for an attack action. This means you can flourish with punches. The flourishes also are in character.
It's a shame the Swords Bard only gives access to Dueling and Two Weapon Fighting, though.
But if someone wanted to make a build like this in my game, I'd totally let them have the Unarmed Fighting Style instead and whip out stylish fist flourishes ✨
@@nucleargoofball8043 going fighter before bard they get unarmed fighting, and going two weapon fighting let's them punch as a bonus action.
@@bassetthound1394 Pretty sure unarmed and two-weapon don't stack
@@devinspencer1678 the two weapon fighting allows you to add your modifier to the off hand attack, allowing you to add your Strength modifier to the bonus action attack.
@@devinspencer1678 Right, but that's only because of the way that unarmed fighting in general is poorly written/implemented.
It would kinda suck to have to have a 13 in both DEX and WIS to get the Monk's Martial Arts just to be able to play a STR/CHA focused character. You'd be sacrificing a good bit of health and intelligence just to pull it off.
I'd allow it, because I don't want to limit the fun of my players and force them to have the Dual Wielder feat just to be able to land two d8 attacks per turn at a low level. Big slam punching is fun too!
Edit: Another "technical" reason you could allow it is because unarmed attacks are listed under Simple Weapons. They only do 1 damage (plus any modifiers), sure, but regardless, that's where they're listed, so they could very well count.
On a side note, multiclassing into paladin like this to do Divine Smite punches? Oh boy, that sounds fun. >:)
Firstly I love the 13 Ghost reference and the fact that you had to collect yourself.
Secondly..... thank you. So many people don't understand how versatile D&D classes are, and how creative you can go
See, the one major class that 4e had that 5e cannot seem to make: Warlord. Charisma, Intelligence, Strength. Bane in a nutshell. Interesting blend though. Hopefully this comment keeps the mighty algorithm out of your inbox.
Also, one thing I noticed: Bane's vest shirt is often padded, armored, if you will. I'd say probably a chain shirt. Which makes Bard Bane have equivalent AC, since he isn't unarmored. Honestly, I can see stopping at Haste (Level 5 Bard) and putting more into fighter, getting more raw stats. It's probably better the way you did it, but still wanted to note it.
I just realized you didn't do the usual pros and cons of the character, instead swapping it for the comparison to Barbarian.
This does seem like a really fun build though. I'd 100% use the voice the entire time and play him like the Bane from the Harley Quinn cartoon.
"Why do you guys have such nice chairs and I only have this ooooooone?"
"I am this credit card's reckoning!"
Blow up on the ground you stupid office chair!!!
Bane is actually a penalty to attack rolls and saving throws, not ability check! So it won't help you keep Batman grappled, but when you break his back i imagine there's a saving throw in there somewhere!
That 13 Ghosts reference is extra funny to me because my first thought was Scooby Doo and the Curse of the Thirteenth Ghost, in which Matthew Lillard catches 13 ghosts
People who want Bane to be a barbarian have only seen Batman & Robin obvs.
I made my Bane a Rogue who could literally punch fear into people and gave him an Alchemist dedication so he could literally punch drugs into himself.
Battlemaster/Rogue was my thought too.
Or they only remember the Bane scenes where he's the muscle among many Batman villains.
Transmutation Wizard/[?] Fighter, keeping Int on part with Str. I'm telling you people, Tenser's Transformation is the only spell you _have_ to have. It literally does what Venom does. Everything leading up to that is basically secondary kinda-sortas. Fighter for those fancy methods of death dealing, or hell, maybe even Monk for some agility and naked offense and defense!
Punch fear into people.
That sounds badass, I approve.
But can he punch someone so hard they turn into a door?
10:00
Me, a horror fan:
"I understood that reference."
College of whispers would be a pretty good fit to, especially because bane is a genius manipulator in the criminal world
The Scott Pilgrim refs in the opener... here for it.
First person to acknowledge there are 2, you have a sharp eye
@@tulokthebarbrarian2033 Now I must rewatch this.
Calling out the High Lords of RUclips like this is dangerous, Tulok. I just hope that we don't wake up tomorrow to discover that all of your videos have been replaced with Rickrolls and dramatic gophers.
Bard Bane is cool and I've always loved that you don't do just 20 levels of what everyone expects. That's why I watch you build a character.
Yea, agreed! Tulok goes for mechanical accuracy, not thematic accuracy, and also does his research like, a lot.
And jabaiting out the hate commentors is also funny as hell to watch.
I'm actually excited to see bane as a bard because I don't think there's enough rep for the fact that Bane is intimidating and uses the fact that he's actually way smarter than he looks to double up on that fact. Smart enough to learn how to block out basic mind reading abilities, something he did in one of the animated series.
It makes sense. If DnD didn't lvl cap he would be a mixture of Barbarian, Bard and Rouge.
Wow this man made a 13 Ghosts reference in 2021
AND I'LL DO IT AGAIN

I lost my bet in the best way. Oh my GOD I love seeing bards get respect no one does it quite like you
Genuinely love this build... though, building that setup in a regular D&D game would take a LOT of fast-talking to justify it to the DM, assuming he's the type who expects you to be able to EXPLAIN how your character winds up as a Fighter-Bard-Warlock. :P

I love the videos that go more in depth on what alternatives could have been taken. This was one of your most informative videos on how to build characters (maybe outclassed only by that one JoJo’s character?), and nonetheless, it was also one of the most funny ones (the Cockney, the 13 ghosts, the opening bit, just brilliant). Truly great job, Tulok!

That intro was awesome, the sheer amount of rebellious power from this muscle-smart bat-breaker build is so intoxicating (just like a freedom fighter guardian as Tangle the lemur! Wonder when we will get a build for her).
Keep the great build spirit up brainbatian, and don't let the system, or worst: the RUclips comments section, tell you how to do what you do the best.
Tulok, you have goofed!
Tenser's Transformation gives advantage to attacks with "all simple and martial weapons."
In the Player's Handbook, page 149, you'll find Unarmed Strikes listed under the list of simple weapons.
Bane gets both the advantage AND the bonus damage!
To be fair, coming in I thought it was gonna be a Mutant Bloodhunter (Int + Steroids)/Rune Knight Fighter (Size Up, Str and runes for more steroids). I dig the Bard levels though!
Bloodhunter isn’t an official class, and Tulok only uses official material and Unearthed Arcana for his builds. So you’ll never see bloodhunter on one of his videos unless they make another official CR book that has it in it
as far as i can remember Tulok has never used Bloodhunter, but that's a very fitting build.
I could see replacing blood Hunter with maybe alchemist artificer if you want to keep it official
In order to account for “WotC published materials only” Dms, Tulok only character options from the official “canon” books. However, and he’ll be the first to admit this, if your dm is cool and let’s you do something different, then you should do it that way instead.
That Bat-break was so out of left field I was laughing my ass off, damn dude that editing is on point

Also, Bane tried to kill Clayface because he was impersonating Batman at the time.
what a fake out is if Bane tried to do a backbreaker on ClayBat and Clay just kinda SCHLORPS through his knee like Bane just poured soup on himself
I'd like to see a clayface build eventually I think it would be really creative.
What if every build I've done is a Clayface build...
@@tulokthebarbrarian2033 true lol

Also, if you have played injustice 2, you could say that he is wearing heavy armor
Anyone that doesn’t think Bane would be a high charisma character is entirely missing the fact that Tom Hardy of all people was chosen to play him, and good god if anyone has max charisma irl it’s that sexy sexy man
And a bardbarian would have been perfect. Yes Bane is very charismatic... When he isn't pumping venom into his bloodstream and going into a violent rage. At this point I can no longer watch his vids because he's intentionally making builds that'll make people criticize them so he has a "justification" for being a twat to his audience. It's clear he hates doing these and he should just stop.
@@CavemanCrafts86 did I ask
@@CavemanCrafts86 Thing is though, you can't really do any major spellcasting while in a rage, and while yes Tenser's Transformation has that same caveat, it also lasts longer than Rage and does more damage while still being pretty durable.

...I considered Transmutation Wizard, actually, just with a really high strength store. Tenser's Transformation is literally all you need at the end of the day. Honestly, I might go high charisma/int barb/fighter and just give him a magic item that gives T's T a couple of times per day.
Except you can't really rely on getting a magic item that gives you T's T (god that's an amazing abbreviation) in most games. Tulok builds characters that you can do reliably mostly no matter the DM.

If Batman has a few levels in Shadow Monk, Bane has at least a few of Gloomstalker. "Born in the darkness" and all that. Also, kudos for tackling this one. Characters with no appropriate dump stats are always tricky for me. Several classes and subclasses are conceivably applicable to Bane, but he is very obviously not a Barbarian. None of a Barbarian's features, except maybe Unarmored Defense, do anything to realize this character concept. Anyone who argued otherwise is probably the same kind of small brain that thinks He-Man is a Barbarian.
I love your Kimberly impression!
